    Great video! I have been using Oakley's for years with no issues and when I'm not wearing them they are back in their sunglass bag. I have bought replacement lenses and I found IKON lenses are great replacement lenses too! Great lens for the money too!

    you should have the lenses checked for the UVA/UVB rating... so many of the cheaper ones just filter the brightness not the full UV rays so you open the pupils with the tint and let in more damaging UV. I think some glasses shops have the machine that measures the light passing through the lenses and maybe some safety shops as well... North America has higher certification standards that eyewear have to pass where as China doesn't have to always follow suit.

    being shatter proof probably gives them the opposite property you thought at first. as they make them with more flexible plastic so it doesn't crack and shatter but the trade off is it is softer.

    Any Oakley sunglass owners. Do not leave your sunglasses in your car when it is hot or cold. It will ruin them. Also do not wear them if you are at the beach and you might get a little wet. The salt water will eat away the coating on them.

    • @scottyee707
      @scottyee707 Před 5 lety +1

    Agreed on the lenses. I average right around two years shelf life on my Okleys until the lenses are completely toast. However, the performance and quality that I get during that time outweighs the fact that I have to drop $165 - $200 every couple years to replace them. I look at it like this; if I buy cheap $15 dollar glasses four times a year, thats $120 over two years, plus, with those you don't get the shatterproof quality that you get from Oakleys, and that in and of itself is priceless.

    Everyone might be aware, but Luxottica owns and makes Oakley, Prada, LV, etc. pretty much all of them and they all come out of the same design factories and manufacturing facilities. So, these direct replacements are essentially the same thing just no branding. It's not that China sells them out the back door its that the country doesn't acknowledge most foreign patents.

      Same here, I have like 7 pairs of Oakley’s and their lenses get scratched easily. I got A pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses more than 18 months ago and the lenses are in perfect condition. You will have to buy the one with glass lenses, not plastic. And the optical clarity is amazing, everything looks HD. The only thing is that Costa are not that stylish like Oakley but I’m more than happy. No more Oakley for me.

    The higher performance eye protection just inherently is more susceptible to scratches. Higher grade ballistic scratch even easier. Something to decide, a scratched lens or shattered lens. You decide.

    I bought from them years ago. I had to find replacements for my e-wire and they had them. When I got the lenses I popped out the old ones and put in the new ones. Right away I noticed gaps between the frame and the lens. So I took pictures of what I talked about and sent it to them, they sent me another pair. The gaps were still there but smaller. I was fine with it. I have those glasses in the car as backup glasses for when I get caught driving when the sun is going down. I think that they aren't perfect but for the price? They do the job.

    The main reason Oakleys SI ballistic models cost so much is their hi tech lenses. Those lenses are guaranteed shatterproof, UV proof, polarized and PRIZM technology really rock.
    So I don’t think random lenses from China can easily replace all that. Besides Oakley lenses are made of one solid piece, while concurrents use sandwich technique (not so solid).

    I had the most beautiful blue “iridium” replacement lens on my Hijinx glasses that were like a mirror. Stunning lens….bought them on Amazon in 2015….now they are not available…so I go to Oakley’s site, buy the Holbrook and choose iridium lens…..but they have arrived and they are not mirrored and when looking at me you can see my eyes…..so I guess “iridium” has nothing to do with the mirror affect….and I don’t know how or what to look/search for to get those beautiful lens’s again

They are better than cheap gas station or Walmart sunglasses but not indestructible. I have the fuel cell as well. Its funny how people think you can make a high performance lens which the feature set that Oakley brings to the table and make them scratch proof. Sunglasses are disposable. They are not meant to last for years and years. 1 year is the performance life of sunglasses. Even if you have no scratches the coating will start to break down due to UV exposure and chemical exposure from the environment and lens cleaning chemicals or soaps. Awesome knife by the way.
