This was the first ever Mario and Luigi RPG I played and fell in love with it as a kid. To this day it's still my favorite entry in the series, as the feelings it gave me as a kid were so powerful and I loved everything about it. The unsettling and eerie vibe I got from this game is also something I enjoyed a lot as a kid. I will say, I'm so upset we never got a remake for this title and we probably never will given that Alphadream is pretty much done for...
Shame that we never got a remaster of this tho, even tho the revamped the Shroobs for Bowsers inside story remake

6:33 Small detail; The Shroobs are weak to baby tears. And the good professor synthesizes baby tears from water.
Nothing points out Mario and Luigi stop vim factory, they only stopped fuel making for UFOS.
Don't forget Elder Princess Shroob gets to drink vim, meaning more draining continues.
The game also shows almost all of Toad Town population murdered.
Plus Princess Shroob mutated others, who are either killed by Mario Bros or rain of tears.
And then inside Yoob you have dead koopas as dry bones or skeletal remains everywhere
I actually never concluded that elder princess shroob drank vim it meant that the factory is still going, this game is really on another level, it makes sense now why we were able to find them again in Bowser's inside story
@@LilCosmosYT the fact theres also a cutscene showing Toad Town's population being massacred, with two ladies to survive and yet use this terroristic attack to gain money.
@@houdini7873 This game being dark is what made it unique and made me love it, toad town was really something that made me really feel what the toads were going through (not like Nintendo hasn't done something bad to toads) I hope they bring back the shroobs in some kind of way even tho it's quite Impossible Nintendo would ever do that
i think the removal of bros points for this game is really smart, cuz focusing on bros points while having two more characters on the team makes it a tad more confusing that it should be.
also smash eggs are good you fool
It would had been good to keep the points if the items were more situational. Like, with some enemies you would rather to use the shells before the copy flower
Fun Fact, there is actually a badge you can get in the game that make all Bros items infinite in use. So no more buying those now.

This is my favorite Mario and Luigi game of all time, I played it when I was a kid on the Wii U VC. Though I didn’t even actually finish the game until fairly recently because Princess Shroob kept sitting on me and getting me dizzy at Level 25, so I just grinded till level 30 and finished the game.
I still wish Alphadream has done a remaster of Partners in Time. They could've fixed any issues the original had, and even added a Koopaling-based side quest. They wouldn't even have to remove any of the game's darker elements.
I used to hate the Smash Eggs too, but once you really get the hang of them, they have their uses. They can target multiple enemies, and they're also the only Bros. Attack that can just randomly give you free items.

Lore of The DARKEST Mario game. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time momentum 100
The campy aspect of the whole Shroob invasion comes across as a Tim Burton kind of dark. Obviously, it's dark, but in a more exaggerated and crazy way (moody & quirky), than serious. After all, there are a ton of sillier moments, including times the Shroobs are around. This actually fits perfectly for the Mario & Luigi series, which is a wacky, antics-filled adventure that prioritizes fun and/or engagement.
Wait a minute. I didn't saw the rage function in Partners in Time. I thought it was introduced in Bowser's Inside Story.
After hearing that Elder Princess Shroob was the most difficult boss in the M&L series, one of the most difficult bosses in Super Mario's entirety, AND hearing that the American version gives the bosses double hp... I cannot tell you how good that makes me feel.
She's one of the hardest bosses to best in any piece of Mario media and I beat her.
Next time I feel like giving up on something, I'm gonna remember that I bested Elder Princess Shroob, because having that knowledge feels AWESOME.
Never beat this game as a kid (skill issue) but I always loved it and its vibe it gives off. Spooky aliens were cool af

Potential if they did remake it, they could have delved into the father son relationship more between Bowser Jr. And the Koopalings with Baby/Prince Bowser and see what sorts of chaos could ensue from that. Perhaps Prince and Jr. Team up? Before the inevitable trouncing inside Thwamp volcano? All that missed potential to have something heartwarming in the midst of tragedy.

really good video and essay, but why does no one EVER ttain mario and luigi defense stat
the most interesting part of partners in time's bosses to me, esp having made it to the bosses at low level and no equipment, stache only run, is Elder Shrooboid and Elder Princess Shroob's 2nd phase.
these 2 bosses have 2 of the only attacks in the entire game where it can be completely unavoidable damage.
For Elder Shrooboid thats its spin attack where you have to hammer it. I noticed it will either:
1. stop after 4 hits.
2. stop after more than 4.
if its more than 4, then someone's dying, since trying to hit more than 4 on is not too feasible for how fast its spin attack starts up. thats what makes it a pretty big rng check.
Elder Princess Shroob's 3-leg sweep is, while avoidable, it can become unavoidable when the legs start going too fast to jump over.
I was able to make it to Elder Princess Shroob's 2nd phase at level 19 in a no equip/badges no healing items+no purchasing bros items, and Stache only level ups run. the game kindly provides you with just enough bros items and the ability to stock up on mrs thwomp's rock shot attack.
I quickly found out its literally impossible to beat her at that level w/o savestates or tas, cuz her foot has 400 hp and the damage done is pathetic with red shell, plus copy flower wouldn't be good since its not a "true infinite" due to its speed eventually being too fast.
due to how partners in time's level scaling works, I found out soon after this, that level 23 is the absolute sweet-spot.
the one thing about bros items is while Copy flowers is one of the best, that usually applies to general playthroughs. as you'll very quickly see it must be used very-sparingly in low-level no equips+stache only, thus the opinion on it changes in this scenario. it deff has it uses for the last few bosses and esp Elder Princess Shroob's 400hp Foot+200hp Crown.
Red Shell, once you get the timing down, as well as Pocket Chomp, become the absolute saviors of a low-level run.
as their respective speeds are "capped" and are the actual "True Infinite" Bros items. they surprisingly carry the low-level no equipment+only stache run very hard.
Trampoline also applies too with Red Shell+Pocket Chomp, being a True Infinite Bros item, but thats only provided you can quickly react to each character's blur every time-

The frozen princess shroob doesn't make sense, since she literally dies in front of us. If they some day make a sequel, I wonder what the explanation would be. Also, Elder Princess Shroob is most definitely not the hardest boss in the series. Bowser X, Cackletta's Soul, Antasma X, and Bowser Jr are all definitely harder

The only Mario and Luigi game I haven’t played yet is paper jam, and I’ve gotten game overs on all of them, except partners on time. I found this game to be quite easy, i didn’t even die in the elder princess shroob fight.

I'm an avid Partners in Time and Elder Princess Shroob hater. The fights in this game are brutal, especially the boss fights, and the bosses also take forever to beat because they have so much health. I've been going throughout most of the game feeling like I don't do enough damage, can't take a hit, and/or don't have enough HP to survive for a while. That's how I know I'm underleveled.
In these games, you want to be on par, maybe at least a few levels lower than the final boss, right? Well, in Elder Princess Shroob's case, that's level 30 for her first phase and level 31 for her second phase. My experience is in the low 20,000s range, and according to this game's level up progression chart, this much experience nets me a level of, I kid you not, 23. Also, I haven't been using Bros. Items for pretty much the entire game until Princess Shroob (the fight right before Elder Princess Shroob). The reason why is because I have a limited quantity of Bros. Items, and the only way to keep more is to get the Ulti-Free Badge from Fawful, which costs 90 beans. Also, the first few Bros. Items (aside from the Cannonballer and maybe Pocket Chomp) kind of suck, and I hardly ever use them against regular enemies unless they really give me trouble or there is a large group of them.
For the reasons I have mentioned above, Elder Princess Shroob is the worst final boss I have ever faced, and possibly one of the worst video game bosses of all time. I absolutely despise this fight. She has all of the problems I previously listed, and she is just downright unfair and nearly impossible without the Trampoline, Copy Flower, or Mix Flower, especially during her second form. Each body part has its own HP, by the way: the crown and arms each have 200 HP, while the legs have 400 HP. Also, the crown and legs regenerate after three turns, while the arms regenerate the next turn, so screw you, and screw this fight.
Overall, Partners in Time is the most frustrating, rage-inducing, criminal, sinful, horrifying, vile, despicable, treasonous, unconstitutional, putrid, middle-fingerworthy, dishonorable, excruciating, appalling, hellish, barbaric piece of hot garbage crap I have ever played, and it may just be one of the worst RPGs of all time. I find this game Ultra Guilty, and its sentence shall be capital punishment, also known as the death penalty.
More than Super Paper Mario? I mean don't get me wrong, this game is DEFINITELY VERY dark, but compared to a black void that can literally destroy all of existence?
dunno, i think that being alive while your blood is getting sucked out of you to make fuel for flying saucers that destroyed your home and probably were used to kill your family is WAY darker than just falling into some kind of a void. Haven't really played SPM but i hear a lot of people telling it is way darker than MALPIT. Well, even if it is, i think that partners in time is still the most VIOLENT mario game
@@kdakittens1034 At least the victims in PiT actually have afterlives. Though TBF I guess it is a matter of opinion which one’s darker.
I mean sure the void is supposed to erase things from exist but its effects (and other stuff like Luvbi's death) are completely and totally undone by the end. Whereas those toads in the toadwood forest (besides the one that got turned into a mushroom and wasnt drained) are never shown to have survived.
