I literally just sat down with my new Mikro trying to figure this thing out when I noticed this video. Perfect timing. So far this video is really helpful.
My first video I ever watched of your was your Roland TD-11k demo/review. It’s amazing to see how you and your channel have grown in the 4 years since .
Thank you , I have watched this so many times , Today I understood it . Mainly because I stepped away from Maschine Mikro and was into your videos on the Akai Studio . I'm glad you made both . When deciding which to get ,it's really about the one that makes more sense to you.
Pretty in depth explanation here, thanks dude! Been recommended a lot of your vids lately and now I’m out here with an even bigger urge to try out new gear 😭
I just discovered your channel. I have never owned a groove box and was looking for something not too expensive or cheap and had my eyes on the mikro..this tutorial really helped me come to a decision. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this video and for such a thorough walk through. You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!
Had one of these for a couple of years and I know a little bit about how to make it work but I’m going to really focus on it in the next week. Already learned some things I didn’t know
Great stuff as always! Will love to see a part 2 for this or maybe a series. Especially working on a project and exporting it to a daw, that’s the part that’s always missing in these tutorials. Tnx so much Gabe !
Yes!
Music video
Gabe your finger drumming is on point! I dont own a Maschine, but always looking for workflows i can translate to my hardware/DAW of choice
You explained really well how to use Maschine not just with the Mikro but also for a new MK3 user. Tight.
looking to learn more and this inspires me , thanks for this . I get mine is a few days .. excited
Really good tutorial ..I bought the device a year ago but haven’t had the time to learn how to use. So thanks I have set a whole aside to really get to know the device ….thanks you helped me 🙏🙏🏿🦄🎩👏👏
Killer tutorial, and cool sample pack!
Awesome vid man! Just bought mine today and super eager to learn.
I just used the mk 2 abt a year ago and it way used abit later usage. A year later and I am learning this basic now. I love it I must say alrdy this month. I used fl studio in past but this native pair is so much natural for creative juice and physical for a producer. I thght drumming only but it has everyting once you learn the software and hardware and actually using it effectively and easier lol. I had a heart stroke this past month 3 months and im recovering slowly. I made clear why I was used in thinking last year. Sweet for the tube mini training. 🤟
You have a great style for tutorials. Great video
True to my word I gave it go. Excellent stuff thank you. Just the right length and straight forward.
Glad it was helpful!
I know nothing of beats im new to this world and u helped alot!! Big thx👍🏾
I so excited to get started!!!
Got my maschine coming. Cannot wait. Built me a massive sound library with my mpk mini and fl studio. This machine is perfect since I dont need a standalone stampler bc I use FL Studio. I like to record my beats live so this is perfect.
Wow, thanks! I got the Mikro and was a bit baffled by it by your videos really clarify it for me. Also, Reaper!
Cuz of your Video i Bought this thing. Years ago i bought a MPC Studio and it was a nightmare. I struggled for hours and nothing worked. I bought this maschine, installed the Software und it worked!!!! I couldnt believe my eyes that this really works without no problems. It is really eazy to use compaired to the mpc software with is horrible. Now i finally have the product I was always looking for. Thanks a lot!!!!
awesome job mate, I'm going keep coming back to this vid
I appreciate this tutorial so much, I learned a lot.
Very helpful, waiting for part II
Great tutorial, thank you for this 🙏🏼
Great tutorial i found very easy to follow, clear and interesting. definitely will check out all this guys videos and recommend others to do the same.
5 star video Gabe!
Thank you for this tutorial. ❤️
Good for u Bro. Love your stuff. Got me back into synth's after not having one for 20 odd years. Yourself, and of course, BoBeat's and Loopop 🔥
Love from the UK
just purchased the sound pack. thanks.
super helpful! more vids please!
Very nice and informative video!
Very educational video.....THANK YOU!!!
Great video my man
Great tutorial man! I needed to ditch my MK1 Maschine due to Native Instruments discontinuing the firmware updates (smells like damn planned obsolescense to me). Thinking of buying the Mikro MK3. You show it still is a lot of versatile fun, despite it having less functions than its bigger brother. Great job!
nice video Gabe, thanks. I am still having problems finger drumming, you make it look so easy
Glad the video helped! I did a video on finger drumming if you want to see some of the techniques I use: czcams.com/video/R-DhwAAIr-M/video.html
Top Explanation, Bravo !
Thank you so much for this Video, Greatly Appriciate it brother!
Gabe I have to say that I think that you did a very comprehensive job of covering lots of that the Mikro can do in a very short amount of time. I've just been into it for not even a month now. I actually did purchase a course on udemy at a discount. The course was for the standard Maschine, but I've been able to figure out the differences between the two. This is my 1st groovebox, so I needed some extra help. But even that course didn't show off the features quite like you have. Looking forward to what you come up with next. Thanks.
Amazing video
Thanks Gabe that was great
This video is the cure to my GAS, it reminds me that I still have the MK3+JAM collecting dust on the shelve.
Great video! Thanks for uploading! Subbed.
super brilliant
Just bought this controller, to do some intro’s & outro’s also soundtracking for my projects Mk3 tutorials up now getting to grips with it. Wish me luck
The BEST NI Mikro tutorial on the web! I want the NI sounds, maybe Komplete Kontrol 13 bundle, but don’t know if the device is necessary - since I have a Launchpad X and use Logic.
nice vid, helped a lot
I Love The Way You Explain, Greetings And Blessings From Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico
THIS GIVES THE MOTIVATION TO PULL OUT MY MIKRO AND MAKE BEAT
Thanks for the video from Germany, Frankfurt. 😎👍
Thanks for this video, I have just started and I am still watching videos and trying to get my head round this. I have the Mikro plus a m32 controller, so if you do any more videos I will be watching for them. Just subscribed too. I wish i was any good at finger drumming so any tips on that would be helpfull. Chris
I did a video on finger drumming a while back, hope it helps.

Glad you dig the video!
FINALLY, thank you.
this is good stuff
Thanks 👍 That was nice 👌
Ima maschine native and i still watch these no lie
To Maschine Micro Mk3 or MPC Studio Mk2, that is the eternal question!
I did a dedicated video on the topic!
czcams.com/video/9TGH3E0dnj0/video.html
I'll love a part 2 about automatización, mixing and mastering, either on machine or another daw like Ableton!
Funny you mention that, I actually did do that a while ago! Hopefully it's helpful:

hello!! this tutorial was amazing! i really like how you explain things. I will subcribe for sure! I struggle with one thing though. If a pick a cool scale for an instrument, how do I know if it goes well with one different scale that I have on my bass or my other melody? Do I only know that by ear or are they some scales that go together? I only use major scale for everything right now. Thanks!!
Great video Gabe, can you tell me if there is any way to set up the Mikro to be used as a basic midi controller so I can use it with some of my VST instruments ? Like EZ drummer - EZ Bass etc
That went by pretty fast but covered a lot of ground thanks
Just received mine last week...
Hey Gabe-Thanks for this-the learning curve on this particular app is steep. A warning to other prospective buyers: There are great deals on Reverb-but Native Instruments does make you pay $70 for the software-irregardless of having a hardware serial number-buyer beware particularly on these units on Reverb. (My unit had the label literally ripped off on purpose-and the seller sold it anyway. I think what is happening is these jerks are upgrading to full on used Maschine MkIIIs used after paying for the software.)
Anyway Gabe-this might be on of your best tutorials ever-consider it book marked and repeatedly viewed. (The unit has some ferocious instruments and samples)
Glad you dig the tutorial! And yeah that's good to know. New units should just come with the software by default.
I really need your help with mastering and putting it into a song. That’s where I’m stuck lol
Hi Thanks a bunch for your video. Could you please show mw how to set different colours for different pads in Maschine Mikro MK3. I want a colour for pad one which would be kick and pad two another colour which would be snare and so on and so forth.
Can you please do a video on how to import/load mp3 or songs to sample and chop?? I can't figure out how to get it into the mikro
I've been considering getting a Micro, but never saw one demoed. This was a great presentation. Thanks. I was really intrigued that the Pure Drip VST seems have kits tailored explicitly for the Micro. As a stand alone VST I don't believe there are any kits in it. Does this thing load the MPC Akai Drum Kits as well?
The Maschine kits aren't plugins, they're packs that can be loaded directly into the Maschine software or plugin (they work for both). I'm guessing you'd need to convert the MPC kits to a different format. I'm not sure if that's possible, but you could drag the wav files directly in.
I was like "whats the point if I still need a computer? I want total standalone!" And then I kept watching, and now I'm like "eh standalone can wait, lol"
Hi Gabe, how are u? Im about to decide to buy a Machine Mk3 Mikro, but my only concern is about using it as midi controller to control third part plugins, as Groove Agent in Cubase, or even Serum, Sylenth, Arturia, U-He, etc. Can i use the functions as chords, note repeat, and other functions or there are some limitations?
hi mate! considering this thing. do you think the factory content is useful for synthwave/dark disco music?
Great vid! Do you need a super fast computer for this? Are the included DAW and preset sounds CPU intensive? I’m wanting to get a dedicated groove box, but this seems to do a good job of a “groove box feel”. My computer isn’t the best though. 7th Gen i7 and 12 g’s of RAM. It’s also a standard HD (probably typical laptop HD running at less than 7200 rpm).
That will work fine
I have 2010 Mac Pro with 2 quad cores and 32gb of ram. It runs flawless
there is way to set the scale of the maschine automatically to fit the scale of the corrent track that playing in traktor ?
i already have an NI KK m32 and i've already bought Ableton intro but now I'm thinking about getting a NI MM MK3 mostly because the M32 don't have pads,
can the 2 NI be fully integrated with Ableton or should I be looking more at Maschine 2 ??
When I press and hold a pad, say the hats and then click volume to change that single sample volume, all the pads change volume (not the project) - ANy ideas why?
I know on the MK3 you can click select > Multi select > none // but cant find this on the Mikro? Any ideas??
EDIT: Turns out select all is toggled within Maschine, so I had to press CMD + A and it de-selected all the channels on the mixer, now I can alter the volume of each individual pad
Hi. Why can't I listen to the sounds in the overview in DrumLAB within Machine 2. I have to move the sound to a PAD within a group to listen to it.
9:22 Is it possible to change the bottom note and not the root note? I notice when I change the root note it isn't just the bottom note but the actual root note of the scale. So let's say I got some awesome arpeggios going but then I need a bottom note lower than the first pad, if I change the root note all the lit up pads change and it's also no longer the same key scale also so it makes tapping out complete chord progressions or melodies pretty hard since melodies will often go below the root note.
Hey gabe, can you make metal drum beats on that gadget?
Do you get the computer program with sounds free with the device ? :)
Hi, could you please tell me one thing? I can not use this controller as a midi device in Fl studio.
I’m having a hard time trying to setup mines. Do I register on the website or the app?
hey quick question does this come with the software built in?
6:37 so you added an element after. How come it did not overwrite the loop you made before? thx
Can i control SERUM on Ableton with this controller?
Hey Gabe, I'm a new subscriber here. Sub'd for the great content of course - love your tutorials as well as your music.
I'm a guitar player whose now starting to dabble in the world of electronic music. I got a Novation Bass Station ii and I love it! Now that I've about mastered my synth, I was wanting to add more to my "electronic arsenal" and I was recommended to look into a groovebox from my FB group. I've been eyeing down either this or the Novation Circuit Tracks.
In your opinion, which is more versatile and intuitive? Would the CT work more seamlessly with my Novation eco system? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
I'd say for your specific case, the Circuit is the way to go. It's much more built from the ground up to interface with hardware synths, whereas the Mikro is much more of a DAW controller.
@@GabeMillerMusic thanks man I appreciate it!
Why do people say this doesn't work with Ableton? (Or Logic Pro, or maybe anything mainstream)
I get that it can do basic midi controller functions in Ableton, but can it make use of any of its unique features, or library sample.... things? Idk what I'm talking about. Just trying to figure out which one to buy. I don't want to go for the absolute cheapest of this and the Akai Studio is about what I'm looking for, but... if I'm too dumb to ever figure this out, maybe I should go with the Aakai MPD218 and be eternally underwhelmed...
When I’m finished how do I convert it to an mp3
While I do think this is a great tutorial, I just returned this controller. I’d be playing with it, and then the buttons would stop working when pushing stop or play. If I would unplug it, then my music would start playing, then I could plug it back in and get back into the groove. I don’t have an underpowered system and I’m really familiar with Mac (former employee and I’m also an ACMT), so deductive reasoning tells me it’s the controller firmware, which is all up to date. Sucks because I like their software overall, it just wasn’t a playable experience.
how can i turn off clips with mikro mk3? thank u
The process is very similar to Ableton’s Push. So Gabe, have you tried it? It’ll be nice to hear your opinion. Thanks!
I haven't tried the Push but I'd definitely like to!
can you also only export the midi?
How to integrate with my daw?
I generally make melody and chords in my daw and just want to use mikro the beatsnto support my melody in the daw . More importantly I want to quickly tweak the beats in case i change my melody or for a different idea in real time .. more like working with both my daw and mikro at the same time
You can use the Mikro as a plugin within your DAW, that'll probably get you exactly what you're after.
Or, you could make stuff in the Maschine software and ultimately export those tracks to do a final mix in your DAW, that's what I do, although it's definitely less flexible.
@@GabeMillerMusic thanks , will explore vst option
How do you humanize the drumkit?
Mpc studio 2 vs maschine mikro mk3…. Who wins?
Thank you for posting.. I’ll have to watch this a few more times to really follow along. I’m close to ordering the Maschine MK Mikro. Do you have any regrets getting the Mikro for $259 vs the MK3 for $699 for the workflow similar like you had in the all in one version? The MK3 being slightly more than 1/3 the price of the MK3, it’s compelling as a first maschine. I have heard of some some people who have Mikro then later get the MK3,, then use them in sequence (LIVE?) so the original purchase isn’t totally duplicated. I don’t know even enough to ask the right question... but I’m guessing buy the Mikro and if I somehow outgrow it or need more in a few years.. the MK4 will be out by then.. haha.. in other words do something and stop waiting?
I have no regrets getting the Mikro, but also I wanted something portable and I use the MPC One when I'm working on music at my desk. If the Maschine was my main music production device and I mainly wanted to use it in the studio, I would have gone for the full size MK3. But if you can only get the Mikro, I'd say just go for it, it's definitely a good device. Although it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to use both together to me.
Just me who's looking for where to install the MASCHINE DAW?
Y can't someone make a video with default sounds that the mikro comes with?
Hi! Noticed you run the software on Windows. Do you think WASAPI is enough snappy and lag free when used with the Mikro Mk 3?
I think it depends on your computer (and how small you can crank your buffer size), but I've had decent luck running ASIO4ALL drivers.
@@GabeMillerMusic thanks
Im really struggling to decide between the Mikro and a used Novation Circuit. Wanting to get back into making music after a 7 year break. Been spinning vinyl in the meantime and staying as far away from a screen is super important to me. I am concerned the Circuit is too nerfed to create full tracks, but only having 16 pads looks to make step sequencing a bit more of a pain. How do you find the process of say sampling a break with the Mikro, is it pretty much required to use the software to handle it?
There is also a used Mk2 Mikro near me with the bigger screen
With the song mode and with the new update that boosts the samples your allowed to have from 60 seconds to 160 seconds per packs it’s easy to make full tracks on the circuit especially if your have another synth on hand. But it doesn’t do chromatically playing samples so if your big on editing samples I would look at the maschine. Maschine also seems intuitive.
How do I open the Gabe Pack Bass Version.circuitrhythmpack?
It's meant to be loaded into the Novation Circuit Rhythm. It's exact same sounds as the wav files in the various folders in the pack though.
not really from scratch. you have it installed. mine pulls up permission errors after downloading multiple “fixes”.
