@NevadaChozo Very hardy ferns are the first to grow here after several years as the spores are carried by the wind from surrounding areas and they find enough water and shelter from the wind in the lava cracks. After about 30 years, there may be small trees from seeds carried by birds and other animals.
@altruistichedonist When the tube is well established and there are no surges from the main vent that can overtax the tube, it is possible that that there no surface flows. There is really nobody going along the entire eight miles between the vent and the ocean to verify this.
