  • The surface flows nearing the ocean continue to gain strength due to an increase in the supply of lava from the source on the East Rift Zone of Kilauea. On this date in the early morning it advanced to within 250 feet of the ocean and may reach it within hours if the supply is not interrupted. The first three clips in this video show a flow of lava break out from the developing tube about 1/4 mile from the ocean and burning the trees and vegetation in the area. In the last two clips, lava is shown cascading down the old sea cliff and onto a bench which formed about 20 years ago.
