Alone in the Aussie Wilderness- 5 Days Hiking the Budawangs

- Join me as I spend 5 days hiking solo through the Budawangs, a declared wilderness area on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. At one stage, becoming "geographically embarrassed" but managing to navigate my way out, luckily. Easily one of the most stunning, remote ad wild places I have been. A place of true beauty.
Hope you all enjoy!
Hooroo.

I like how you found asbestos!
Brilliant. Ancient Aboriginies kept going thru my mind all the time while watching too! Love my country. Thanks for sharing.
As another Sydney based hiker, I say your attitude and honesty is fantastic.
Showing the ups and downs.
One tip. Always carry a little jar of Vicks Vapourub. Great for scratches, mozzie bites, and little spider bites. Also an effective mosquito repellent.
Keep making these videos and you'll end up as a movie cinematographer. Great work !
Rawley’s man and beast is another good one.
Piss on it
Do you ever stop talking about yourself?
@@nathangrant3973 *Rawleigh's ... I grew up with it ... 😉
Enjoyed seeing the Aussie content after watching Alaskan and Canadian camping trips. Will be watching more of ur videos.
Scotty mate that was simply just outstanding !!! A real bugger loosing your compass, but remember, you were never really lost, you just didn’t know where you were and there is definitely a difference! As someone else has said, maybe, just maybe a GPS for these extreme solo excursions into you most beautiful pristine wilderness. I’m already looking forward to seeing your next adventure, big or small they lift my spirit. Once again cheers mate for taking us along with you. Regards Clive
Hey Clive, thanks a lot for the feedback. Yeah I may have to think about taking a gps next time. Just in case. Though it does take away from the "do it yourself" appeal of being in the wilderness and not having to rely on technology. But it would be smart. Glad you are enjoying the videos!
That’s some incredible scenery! Makes me want to visit Australia some day.
Unreal mate! Keep on livin!
Another cracking video Scotty, a stunning 5 days mate, good to see you kept your head, in what could have been sticky situation, a wise move to head back to your previous camp and get your bearings again, many others may stumble on regardless, only to get further lost. But hey, you made it out, and another lesson gained from the experience, which will no doubt serve you in your future walkabouts. It was also great to see you having to be mindful of water collection on your trip, as we here in Scotland don't really need to think about it, even during the Summer months, as its always bloody raining! Apparently our Summer in Scotland is on a Wednesday this year LoL!!!!
Anyway keep the videos coming, i am thoroughly enjoying them.
Atb Stuart.
Hey Stuart, thanks a lot for the feedback mate and glad you are enjoying the videos.
I hope your Summer Wednesday was great Stuart. Man, that was funny. 😜
Its great how far your cinematography, story telling and outdoorsman skills have come along. Funny to watch an old vid!
Man, each video draws me in more and more 💚 Great content! Appreciate the attention to detail. I hope you never stop sharing these ventures!
Awesome! Greetings from Nepal!
Aussie wild view
What a trip I hope you know how lucky you're to live in such a beautiful area of the world...
Nice work! Good to see another vid
well done mate, love the videos and looking forward to watching more!
I really enjoy seeing your home through your eyes.
Fellow Aussie and recent discoverer of your channel here. Really enjoyed watching your multi day hike through this amazing wilderness area. I've been up to the Blue Mountains a number of times, but never to this area, so will make sure to explore it next time I can make it up there (I'm based in VIC).
I thought it was really great how you stepped through your process of re-orienting yourself and getting your bearings again. I have been in a similar situation, however was lucky enough to have some spotty GPS in which to find my way out, but having topographical maps and being able to triangulate your position is something that I'm now committed to learning.
Thanks for making these vids and keep up the amazing work!
I need to start doing this hiking thing. Thanks for the great videos. It took me ages to finally find an Aussie showing off our awesome landscapes. You're just what I was looking for.
Thanks for taking me where I cant get to.beautiful
whatever your situation may be, i hope you can get to where you want too
New sub here, really enjoying your video's alway's had love for Australian outback when i used to watch my hero Les Hiddins (Bush tucker man). Thanks for sharing mate!
Thanks for another awesome vid Scotty. You may want to consider carrying a small GPS like Etrex on a hike like this. for additional peace of mind.
Truly great adventure and video! I'm loving seeing the uncommon beauty of your part of the world. Subscribed!
Absolutely love watching your videos...the honesty and love you have for the wild is great..as a brit no way in the world would I camp out in the Aussie bush..too many bitey things ... keep it up big love and respect
Your videos are inspiring, I'm only just getting into hiking and I'd love to to visit a place as beautiful as this. Knowing it's so close to Sydney is very encouraging!
Awesome to watch mate! I would love to get out there in the wilderness, really enjoy watching your vids, thank you for sharing
Scotty I really enjoyed this mate. There’s a lot of work and effort not just in the actual hiking but afterwards.
You can really see that you love doing this and film along the way which is the real work. 😊 thank you.

Awesome video, mate! I've never done any kind of serious hiking/camping but your videos have inspired me to do it. Thanks!
What a stunning place. Thanks mate. Great video 👍
Wow what a beautiful country, great video.
Would love to do something like this. Camped on the summit of The Castle last weekend and it was sketchy to say the least. Winds picked up pretty gnarly around midnight and was very happy to get back down. The views were to die for though - so worth it
Dam good video Scotty, Will start planning a similar walk very inspiring.
every corner..... "I wish I'd camped here last night"
Great video thank you for posting take care stay safe keep up the great work.
Another amazing trip dude. You really do have a good eye for some magnificent scenery shots. Very pleased you achieved, successfully, your objective; self reliance and ability. Well done. Loving your work.
Hell yeah man, epic trip! And not a drop of rain, how cool is that..
Great video/trip mate. Very impressed with how u kept it together when u thought it was going majorly wrong. Respect to that. Scenery was amazing thanks for sharing with us bud.
Another great trip...Really am liking catching up on your past videos :-) Your kinda lucky having all those trees around you, not many up here towards the top of Scotland.
Epic trek Scotty!...great job recording it...atb...woods

Great video mate...Thanks for sharing your camping trip...;-p
What a stunning place - another great video
Mate, sensational!!!! I love and follow the North American guys but its so good to have an Aussie doing this in the land I know and love. Full points to you and keep it coming. I reckon soon you'll have an international following like Joe Robinet and others!
Brad Peebles Hey mate, glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate the kind words. I’m a long way off to being anything like Joe Robinet, but it’s nice to see people are enjoying the vids. Cheers mate
@@ScottysGoneWalkabout hi Scotty, I know this video is really old now, but I just wanted to say that the rock you picked up with the white stuff on it looked suspiciously like asbestos! Hopefully you didn’t breathe in any of those fibres or powder
What a stunning beautiful place! I wish I had known about this place 35 years ago!!!
Champion, every step is an achievement. Inspiring to all us aussies
Definitely repeating the journey 👍
Keep them coming, great vid!

Great adventure. Thanks for sharing. Yes maybe gaiters could be a good option. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thumbs up and hats off .. thank you for your honest production nicely put together from your expressions of great amazement and excitements of those views we dont reguly see hear in NSW to your uncertin moments with the spiders nest camp site to your retracking and thoughts about geographical error ... looking forward to the next 1 scotty
Such a beautiful place.
22:14 oh man yep that's it my packs coming off & the whisky is coming out. Holy wow man, I love watching the Aussie stuff everything down there wants to kill you & looks like something from the land before time. This was a great watch man. Thumbs up & Subbed!
Thanks a lot mate! Glad you enjoyed it. Australia is a pretty incredible country. You'll have to get down here sometime.
Awesome Video, so glad I found it💚💙
Hello from Seattle Washington. Enjoy your videos Scotty. That's living. Never stop because life is short. Cheers!
It is truly a place of beauty
Great video Scotty. I don’t often read other’s comments but notice there’s a lot of Aussies who appreciate your local content. Like many of them I follow a few of the Northern hemisphere chanels and clearly remember a day a year or two ago when I searched for “Australian woodsman”. I have watched almost every one of your videos since. Thanks for the fun and please keep at it so, when you reach a million, I can say I was watching before 100k!
Yes it's beautiful in the Budawangs. We have many black cockatoos down here. Also around Nowra. So gorgeous, good on you to explore our beautiful woods
First YBS...now this guy...I’m officially inspired. Cheers mate 🍺
Very nice. What a fantastic place and five days....great video. Had it all. Lol. Lost compass included. I have to share this vid.👍👍👍👍👍🏕
Hey Scott, I thought we in WA had the amazing places like the Kimberley’s, you have just as good on the East Coast, well done on the 5 day trip.
Have u ever thought of making or buying a compact wood stove (hobo stove/rocket stove) instead of the gas stove if u wanted to give ur kit more of a old school bushman swagger to it 🔥
Luv'n the vids mate👍😁
Great video mate. Bit of suspense at the end too which held me through the last bit. Stunning scenery, I will put this on the list of places I would like to hike one day. I know this is an early one but keep the videos coming mate. Your are paving the way for Aussie hiking creators
Awesome video and super cool hike mate!
Awesome!!!!
Great video mate, enjoyed it 👏
Loved this video, seeing some familiar haunts and favourite camping spots. Might have been yelling keep going when you turned around at the track to mount Owen, there’s a great book called walking the budawangs by Ron daughton I think that has detailed notes as it is quite wild and npws seem to like discouraging ppl from veering from the main path, it’s worth a read before you go, often take photocopies if relevant pages when we walk as a reference as well as the two maps you had.
Good job , great skills excellent vid !!!!!
Very Good Video.."Geographically embarrassed" love that. We have all been there. The Brown snake would have done it for me don't like creepy crawleys or things that slither. used to get palm sized spiders in the woods where I grew up, you get one of them on ya and you scream..LOL Again I enjoyed this very much Scotty.. Keep Safe and looking forward to more.. Safe Travels
Cheers mate. Appreciate the positive feedback! Glad you are enjoying the vids.
Great hike!! It is scary getting off track!
Subbed up Scotty keep em coming chap all the best from Blighty!
Congrats on 5k subscribers!!!🎉🎉🎉
Great video, cheers from Alabama USA!
Good on ya Scotty!
You would love the Nadgee Nature reserve, four to five days would be relaxing!
You're soul your guide, carry on,, 👍 UK 🇬🇧
HAHA!!! The very second you mentioned Black Cockies having a harmonious tune a white one flew low over my place screeching away :D
This is awesome, I’d love to do this
Amazing scenery Scotty. Thanks so much for this super video. Mmmm!! how about that enormous Brown snake.
G-Day Scotty, I just wanted to let you know, you showed a knife by Mitch from Kor Knives on one of your vids and I liked it so I thought I would let you know he is making me a Bushman Knife as we speak. Thanks Mate Pity this virus is keeping me from my outback trips. Just have to wait it out.
Keith (IGGIE) Hindley
Brilliant 👌
Fantastic mate. This area is where i started hiking and the only place that keeps drawing me back again and again.
Understandable you got lost there, looks to be the same mistake I've made before.
Hope you get on top of the castle one day, it is hard to describe.
Hope to see you on the trails!
Backup compass, backup compass, gps. Great trip.👍👍👍
Great work Scotty. It's a little daunting when you challenge yourself to be "Your" best. Keep shining brother. Raw and honest. It's a pain to film and explore. Maybe get the Mrs to help you out there. Sure she'll be pumped also. Love your work. Moose from the Wild West in Oz.
Well done Scotty, great to see some good Aussie content for a change, you got a sub here....:-)
Cheers mate!
Hey mate. Great video once again. If I wasn't so far away, I would really like to join you on one of your next trips. Really liked that overhang cave
Congratulations, Scotty, on a brilliant accomplishment! What an incredibly beautiful area. Can you imagine what roamed that area during the Pleistocene or Jurassic eras. I was beginning to wonder if you had any wildlife there until 35:54 when the snake showed up, then the wombat shortly afterwards. Way to keep your brain intact, Bruh, and it has happened to all of us out in wilderness areas...getting disoriented or even lost. You returned to familiar grounds and gathered yourself and didn't panic. Panic and your shit is in the wind (military terminology for those occasions when you f - - k up!). I always pack a back up compass and pacing beads. Now our cell phone apps are a real help and I use All Trails and GAIA for maps and GPS. I think that GAIA works off a satellite so cell service isn't necessary. I'll certainly find out if I get lost in West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest.
Great video Scotty, I’m also a hiker here in Perth. I love spending several days here on the Bibbulmun Track. Even if you bring 4 or 5 tsp of olive oil it will give flavour but also necessary calories for energy. Good on ya mate, you’re giving me confidence to make more video.
Love your videos man I’m nearly around the corner from here I’m definitely gonna give this place a crack
Ummmmm! Lol! Great video Scotty! LynnXXX
Wow great effort doing that on your own.. It was so good to see you figure out were you went wrong in getting a little lost... I know from my own experience its bloody hard not to panic in that situation, but keeping a cool head and back tracking a little will normally get you home........ A Brilliant Vid .... keep at it
Thanks a lot Roger. Yeah trying to keep your cool in a situation like that can be tough, but I find the more you panic the worse decisions you make. Thanks for watching mate. Cheers
Amazing! so rare to see black cockatoo's these days. Awesome video, very keen to discover the Budawangs myself :) Thanks for sharing mate
Jimmy Yu hey mate, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah it is pretty rare, but I’ve actually notice an increase in black cockatoo in my local area in Sydney in the last year. Not sure the reason why? Perhaps an increase in numbers or perhaps they’ve been moved on due to habitat loss. Yeah you will have to check the Budawangs out for yourself, it’s an incredible place. Thanks for watching mate.
Simply breathtaking and amazing. I am up here on the Central Coast with bush land similar to what you have down south. I want to investigate the Ourimbah State Forest during the cooler months on day hikes just to scout the area out. I am just getting into this pass time. Cheers and thanks for your videos, they are an inspiration.
