"I would like to be a gentleman, I try to be." I've always remembered this line from the movie. I try to teach my kids that boasting is unbecoming of them. My favourite actor of all time. RIP Peter O'Toole.
"...words are important." "Why are words important?" "Because, (with a Scottish accent) we kilt the last man who called it a skirt...your majesty." ;-)
Mr. Johnston's statements here embody the meaning of Confucius' teaching. This is clearly deliberate, because he later wrote a book on Confucianism. The whole social teaching of Confucianism is how one becomes a Gentleman (君子).
Because he was a *Scottish aristocrat* , so *had to be able to get by with a "gentleman's" English accent!* Just like the Irish nobility had to "act British" when the need called for it.
It’s not an English accent, it’s a British accent called Received Pronunciation. It’s not a regional accent, it’s an accent taught in certain schools. Both my grandparents are Scottish and they speak Received Pronunciation, same with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, a Scotsman who speaks RP.

There is something special about him
I believe that Mr. O’Toole’s performance in Lawrence of Arabia is the greatest performance of any actor in history.

"if you cannot say HWAT you mean bobby, you will never mean HWAT you say and a gentleman should always means HWAT he says I tell ya HWAT."
Such a powerful scene. One of my favorites in the film.
I saw this movie when it was first released. This one line immediately ingrained itself in my brain and has remained with me ever since -
This is such a great scene.
The best npc that ever had
Mr. Johnston is an absolute chad

I really love a great film like that.
The importance of learning vocabularies :)
Mr Johnston is from Scotland but has an English accent.

Maybe a nice detail!
