Your style of playing and commentary on the Myst games is exactly why these are my fav playthrough's to watch. I love the games (and books ^^) and have played them way too many times; the way you handle these let's plays are the perfect mix (to me) of remembering the feeling of figuring things out the first time without the frustration of watching a completely blind playthough. For me at least, you hit that perfect balance in these and since I love the games I'm probably..erm...picky. ^^
I’ve watched these play throughs many times over the years, and since it seems like Dilandau isn’t around anymore, I just want to say this is the best Myst playthrough on CZcams. I love how thorough he is and knows what he’s doing (doesn’t fumble around for videos and videos trying to solve puzzles) while still playing the “lost, confused stranger” role so it doesn’t pull you out of the game and storyline you’re watching. He also connects the puzzles and story really well even when some things are disjointed or different canon across games, as well as reading all the text out so I can enjoy it in the background while doing other things. Really, just a wonderful storyteller. I hope he’ll come back one day and read all the wonderful comments of people praising his work. Such an underrated, secret gem of a let’s player.
@ThommyTheKido I have some ideas on what to do next, but I'll keep it a secret for now, especially since I'm not sure yet and I don't want to disappoint anyone by saying I'll do something and then end up not doing it. :)
Two years later, even I too, agree with the aforementioned above comments. I highly recommend looking up the shivers let's play by firewizard23. It's an old sierra It's a bit more silly but the music of the game and commentary is just so great and relaxing to listen to. And the atmosphere is spooky, colorful, and imaginative!
Atrus always seemed to write with such a serious, and heavy tone... Not one joke, pun or even a smiley face... that's what kept his note from blowing away in the wind. Perhaps if the wind wasn't so strong we could've discovered the light hearted notes from Mark and Scott explaining how that suspicious rocket came to the island. Tragic isn't it.
@ThommyTheKido There are some things that I will not act ignorant about, but in a game such as this, where finding out the meaning of things is a large part of the experience, I don't want to do that. I also don't want to give spoilers for viewers who have not played the game (and those do also exist). :)
This is certainly the most leisurely stroll through Myst Island I've seen in ages, but I like it, gives a feel of how someone would act if they were trapped on a strange island, curiously, casually examining their surroundings at first. And classic Adventures are cool, but I wouldn't mind seeing Sven do a more modern some day, like the Sam and Max games, or Back to the Future (good writing for the dialog, and fun environments to comment on). Until then, I got Myst and KQ to look forward to.
And in addition to an extra age it can be controlled more like modern games by actually walking, not clicking and pointing. It also has weather. (sorry if you already figured this out in one years' time XD )
This one has a beetle, which is very appropiate, because this is a MYST game. Huh? Are you talking about the beetles that make the ink for the writing of ages or something i completely don't know
@Dilandau3000 there exist people who haven't played Myst?! alright all kinding aside, i can understand why, but for someone like me who, not only finished but also watched you play real myst (although i played this myst not real myst) it sometimes sounds a bit annoying when you know what the LPer has to do but then doesn't... also, have you already decided what your gonna do next? there arn't that many good puzzle/adventure games(that i know of) left. Greets Thomas
@Dilandau3000 thats probably for the best... can you give us a hint? NO don't answer that! i don't wanna know! i want it to be a surprise... maybe a little hint? NO NO NO NO NOOooo... *ahem* please, don't mind me, I'm just going slightly insane thats all
@HDGamingReplays Wasn't playing games at that age the best? Games were so confusing that when we actually figured something out, it was the most satisfying feeling in the world!
@nleonard49 i know, you see i watch almost every video Sven puts up, although i am skipping King's Quest 4 videos because i dislike the game... yet i still can't believe i mixed Sven and Shady up... thats just wrong, no offense to either, big fan, but still mixing them up is a bad thing
@nleonard49 shit... don't tell me i can't keep those 2 apart... they do completely different things! no wait, they do kinda the same stuff... HOW DID I MESS THIS UP?! i am ashamed... (T.T) i will leave now
U kno, i gave up on this game. Fuck this game! This game s so dull, i usually wud prefer a game 2 have characters 2 interact with, not have a bunch of borin shit that has random things n they dont exactly have it where u accomplished anythin.
Big Dave You realize this game is 21 years old right? Trust me, when this game was just released it blew most people's minds. Couldn't get myself out of this game until I finished it (good ending)
+flyhunterz That is not true, at all. When this game was released there were just as many people loving it as hating it than there are today. For all the same reasons.
Brax1982 I was too young to remember, but one thing is for sure it blew my and my friends' mind back then. Calling this game dull is a bit of a stretch.
flyhunterz Well, you can call it dull if you just don't like games without character interaction or puzzle games or point & click (or all of that at once, like Myst). Personally, I didn't like it back when I tried it the first time, closer to its release. I was more of a LucasArts/Sierra person back then. I bought the trilogy later on and loved it. Not to mention, I sucked back when I first played Myst and I did really well with the trilogy later in life (read: barely used a walkthrough). By that time I had played a couple other games in the same vein and grown to enjoy them.

I'm still around! I'm actually uploading a new Let's Play right now! And I definitely still read and appreciate everyone's comments. :)

I agree with this person!

I miss this era of the internet. Both when Myst was made and this video.
@bradhadair12 realMYST is real-time 3D remake of Myst. It has one additional age (Rime), which I play at the end of this Let's Play.
Atrus always seemed to write with such a serious, and heavy tone... Not one joke, pun or even a smiley face... that's what kept his note from blowing away in the wind.

@ThommyTheKido Its all part of the experienced lets play. :) It makes it more fun and also has those that have not played the game guessing! :)

Play Shivers, please!
I have explored this whole island and now I need help!
@WorldChallenge Riven is available for the iPhone and iPad via the iTunes App Store, as is Myst.
You should try to do an LP of Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssey. That was an awesome game.
The Rocket ....ugh
One thing that I didn't like is that I can move about Myst island too quickly (maybe I needed calming). That overwhelmed me. Realmyst was better.
It's all very MYSTerious.
And in addition to an extra age it can be controlled more like modern games by actually walking, not clicking and pointing. It also has weather.
(sorry if you already figured this out in one years' time XD )
@TheSoldiersMind I like that too! I have played the game but I love how he has others guessing :)
@ThommyTheKido Not to worry, and keep watching! (I watch both as well.) One way you can tell it's Sven doing it is that he uploads every day :-)
the marker switches probably make areas visible on the map
This one has a beetle, which is very appropiate, because this is a MYST game. Huh? Are you talking about the beetles that make the ink for the writing of ages or something i completely don't know
Because Sven is explaining the game. If u don't like it don't watch it mate
@ThommyTheKido Sven didn't do a Let's Play of RealMyst. That was Shady Paradox!

It's an Acme rocket.
was it myst 1 or 2 where you end up at a clock tower?
the whole reason more of us are watching is to get spoilers!!!!!!!

What's the difference between Myst and Real Myst? Because you keep mentioning it and I have no clue what it is.
Mainly realtime movement instead of clicking to move from screen to screen. Otherwise just visual enhancements. There is also a bonus Age called Rime.
came here from minecraft

Just to say, it was the best-selling game until the sims, there must have been more players than today.
Why didn't you play realMYST instead of this boring version?
He does play the bonus age from RealMyst. Also, perhaps he prefers the Masterpiece Edition over RM.
