This is all so simple, but this video gave me so much peace of mind - I'm autistic myself, and I have a lot of stupid guilt/struggle around notebooks and sketchbooks, and how I can't figure out a method that works for me, and I constantly go back and forth between "I need a separate notebook for everything I'm doing" and "I wanna minimise the amount of notebooks I use, I'll just put everything in one", and I love how relaxed and organised you are about your system! I guess it makes me feel better about not keeping up with a certain type of notes 100% of the time, and that it's fine to take notes in different ways depending on the phase you're in. Idk this is me RAMBLING, but the gist is: loved the video!

I am a writer and I have been journaling for a very long time, since my childhood. And have struggled a lot with how to organize everything, the different types of things I want to record, do I include calendar or not, etc. I must have cycled through dozens and dozens of trials of different notebooks. And felt discouraged and down on myself that I couldn’t stick to anything. I just found out a month ago at age 48 that I am autistic. I came across your channel, and am so so happy and inspired tonight. I feel like I have found my people, my tribe, and I am not alone! I care about everything you care about, from tones of color to the texture of paper and the smallest details like weight or thickness… I could never explain why it felt so hard to find my own system, but I feel so at home now. Watching you talk through your journals is so inspiring… and it gives me so many ideas and inspires me to start the journey again to find my system, now that I have more concrete goals I want to achieve. I love how you print out screens from things you are listening to, or photos from your phone. Tech has been helpful in some ways but not in others, and I’m learning a lot from watching you, how you externalise memories so they don’t disappear, as mine tend to do as well. Thank you so much again for your wonderful videos… a very grateful fellow woman on the spectrum ❤

The hobonichi system is truly my holy grail of planners and journaling 🏆 I’ve been consistently using them for 2 years now
I love seeing how other people utilise the space in theirs. I am a fellow A6-er so this was wonderful to watch
I was looking for something to keep track of my hours and overtime at work (as well as using my planners as my brain) but as an over night worker that doesn’t work the usual 9-5 the western appointment planners were completely useless to me so I was incredibly happy when I discovered this system

I currently use a pair of Rhodia Goalbooks, one for my personal life, which is a mix of planner and commonplace book, and one for the new job I am starting soon. I also have a travel sketchbook because I like to use watercolour and wet media.
I think I'll look at a Hobonichi for next year.
Watching one of your previous videos inspired me to start collecting quotes in my journal, and that has become so relaxing, reigniting a special interest from years ago. It's helped me cope with burnout. Thank you.

I have kept some kind of sketchbook or journal forever, but it was really stumbling across your videos about your books a year-ish ago that inspired me to keep a more visual sort of diary/common place book combo. Filling my little books with the stuff I like makes me so enormously happy! Something about seeing that physical space be filled is satisfying in a way that a digital tool just is not.
Previously, I'd used a bullet journal and thought I preferred the heavier paper, but I got a hobonichi (A6 English version) for 2021 and fell in the love with the thin paper. Something about how thin it is makes the book feel delicate and special in a way I really enjoy. I did like the dated book for most of 2021 but found at the end the pressure started to stress me out, so I am in their plain a6 now and enjoying it immensely. I draw out a daily heading similar to what they use in the dated, but like the flexibility of not feeling I have to 'fill the page' and being able to mix in commonplacing. I think it will be really satisfying to see the entire little book filled up.
PS: I have that same little note from the TT store with the washi tape stuck into my book too! It's so precious and cute.

  • @jennyrm6070

ahhhhh Megan! Why is it that you end up explaining my issues more than the professionals can? "If there's any pressure at all then it's harder to keep up with it" (I'm probably butchering your quote lol) It's exactly how it feels. I try to organize my life like neurotypicals and then end up getting frustrated and ashamed at myself. I had printed out little habit trackers and the pressure to actually remember to check them off and THEN look at all the empty days...its terrible. Thank you for being someone of comfort in the times where I feel unseen. THANKS A TON

I must confess that I have stolen your dot and margin method. I was already going back on my writing and adding extra notes and expanding on ideas but in a messy way, between lines and on any space I could find. Then later I would go back to find something and I would just basically be unable to find it, and the messy pages would often make me not want to look back.
It works nicely. I don’t think I could use a dated planner because I don’t plan, I just journal and sometimes I can go weeks without it and write 15 pages on one day, so it would be a waste; but the dots and margins work perfect. And I will allow me to have one notebook for all the things I do, instead of buying several for different purposes, I can be organised in one place now. I do book journaling, life journaling, common-placing, and sometimes I do write plans and ideas… so, the dots work perfect!
And as a fellow neurodivergent… yes… pretty and functional is a need.
