If you haven't listened to Zeal and Ardor, you ABSOLUTELY should! Lets hang out while I react to and analyze "Götterdämmerung" by Zeal and Ardor!

Zeal and ardor is weird with Genres. This song feels a lot black metal than others, yet Devil is fine and Gravediggers Chant are much more Bluesy/slave Chanty. Extremely Unique band.

Zeal & Ardor sound sooooo good live! It's crazy to think this band was birthed as a 4chan "suggest me two genres of music and I'll make a song with them." The result was this black metal and chain gang fusion that is weirdly so awesome and fun. But yeah, they absolutely kill it live.

The part from 21:30 to 21:40 made me perk up because of the lyrics.
"Walle walle manche Strecke, dass zum Zwecke Götter sterben" is a very on-the-nose reference to Goethe's "Der Zauberlehrling":
    Walle walle manche Strecke
    Dass zum Zwecke Wasser fließe
    Und mit reichem vollen Schwalle
    Zu dem Bade sich ergieße.

Zeal & Ardor is one of my favorites from the last half decade or so (jeez, that album came out in 2016...). So fresh. I don't always like each and every _song_ (some of the more atmospheric avant garde tracks, specifically), but Manuel is great at composing albums that take you on a journey. If you have an opportunity to see them live, definitely do so. Also, he is a funny guy who likes a lot of weird music, so check out some interviews with him, too.

4:18 the German pronunciation is alright. One does notice you are probably English-native speaker pronouncing the "ö" as "o", but it is something German speakers are used to when talking to non-native speakers. In German if there is these little dots above a vowl like ä, ö and ü, that means they are pronounced more like ae, oe, and ue.
"o" like in "oh god" becomes "ö" which sounds kind of like the "toilette-bowl ööööh there: 2:02" ^^

Zeal & Ardor are dope! I am a sucker for obscure and mystical imagery. So they give me a lot. I think I read an interview with him where he said that the idea came from a challenge on 4chan where they were like 'what if black music X black metal' in less polite words. And he thought yeah what if gospel X black metal.
The German parts of the lyrics are awesome in an 'occult' context. Basicly he recites rhymes that sound like a witches spell on how to kill the gods.
I especially love: ritze zeichen in den boden bis um dich die erde bebt. Zeig den göttern wessen wille in dem höllenfeuer schwebt - carve runes into the ground tille the earth shakes around you. Show the gods whose will is in the hellfire.
Or: walle, walle manche strecke - which is aluides to goethes poem der zauberlehrling (i think there is a mickey mouse movie of this. Goethe is kind of a big deal in german poetry).
And yes götterdämmerung is ragnarök and the 4th and final part of wagners nibelungen operas (while the whole wagner thing is politicly at least difficult his music is pretty cool and the nibelungen story is pretty cool). Literally means dawn/twilight of the gods.

20:41 love your reaction. I also like this part bestand the german lyrics ans theoretisch precise pronounciation fit so well! Now that I have translated it I notice how much more badass this sounds in german 😅

I just recently got into them because they were referenced on the Hail Satan podcast. The podcasters did a live react to the EP that Zeal & Ardor wrote after George Floyd's murder. I've been hooked by their hard-hitting, emotional onslaught ever since, which resonates on intersecting levels for me as both a black man in the US and a satanist.
The idea of chattel slaves rejecting the religion of their oppressors and embracing Christianity's adversary instead is such a heavy, moving concept, and I'm grateful to have found it in Zeal & Ardors' work.

Some trivia: German power/prog-ish metal band Blind Guardian wrote a song named “Twilight of the Gods” for their relatively recent album Beyond the Red Mirror. The track name is the most common translation of “Götterdämmerung.” Blind Guardian’s “Twilight of the Gods” is also a banger, but in a very different genre. Not necessarily reaction-material, but very much worth checking out if you’re into various sub-genres of metal.

You're trying to say Erase sounds like Don't You Dare? Don't you Dare sounds like We can't be found? We can't be found sounds like Children's Summon? Yes, there are some recurring riffs and melody themes here and there, but their songs and albums so far branch out at least a little from their previous stuff, and they're actually getting heavier.

@@ptr_does_music7042 oh yea I noticed they are getting heavier and I love that, their newer stuff sounds really good and what I mean is I don't mean all their stuff but most of their stuff is structured in the same way pratically to sounding very closely the same but not exactly. I am picky as hell btw lol.
