Cik naksnīnas pret ziemeli Redzēj' kāvus karojam; Karo kāvi pie debesu, Vedīs karus mūs' zemē.
It was night, and I had gone on deck several times. Iceberg was silent; I too was silent. It was true dark and cold. At nine o'clock I was below in my cabin, When the captain hailed me with the words: „Come above, Hall, at once! The world is on fire!" I knew his meaning, and, quick as thought, I rushed to the companion stairs. In a moment I reached the deck, And as the cabin door swung open, A dazzling light, overpow'ring light burst upon my startled senses! Oh, the whole sky was one glowing mass of colored flames, so mighty, so brave! Like a pathway of light the northern lights seemed to draw us into the sky. Yes, it was harp-music, wild storming in the darkness; The strings trembled and sparkled in the glow of the flames Like a shower of fiery darts. A fiery crown of auroral light cast a warm glow across the arctic ice. Again at times it was like softly playing, gently rocking silvery waves, On which dreams travel into unknown worlds.
This is absolutely beautiful. I just can't stop listening to it! Such talented vocalist and gifted director! Absolutely perfect. Wish I could keep the song forever! It's hauntingly beautiful. Thank you for sharing. :)
Hi! Thanks for the Latvian translation. Does anyone have a source for that text and tune? My choir is going to sing it, and I can't find where the song came from!
Do you have the lyrics for the song? I am particularly interested in the Lithuanian lyrics of the solo. The simple tune is rather haunting, and it may well be some old folk tune from Lithuania.
Oh, shoot! I apologize! Yes, indeed, it’s Latvian. Thank you for pointing it out to me. I will make sure to pay more attention to what I say/write/ask.
Yeah you're right in the SATB version I think it's usually a tenor solo, but truth be told, in some ways I prefer it as a soprano solo. Perhaps because I first heard this piece as an SSAA arrangement.
I have no clue how I ended up watching this but I'm so glad I did because WOW

YES MY CHOIR TEACHER IS IN THIS GO QUEEN
Iconic
The warriors are battling by the sky, they will bring the battle to our land. How many nights against The North did I see the warriors battle.
I miss you all, Hugs from Costa Rica
This is easily my favorite recording of this piece. The phrasing and interpretation is extraordinary, while sounding effortless!
Northern Lights sounds WAAAYYY better with all voice parts put together than just ONE voice part!!!
A most BRILLIANT performance of a most beautiful composition!
This is by Eriks Esenvalds, it's depicted at the beginning of the video :-) I LOVE this composition.
This is just perfect! I would die to sing this song with the choir...
stunning.
Absolutely gorgeous!! Both the composition and the performance!
Perfect hall for a chart like this. Great acoustics. Well done, singers.
Wow, this is beautiful. Who is that soprano soloist? She has a lovely voice
It could be Inese Galante
@@elisasunny could, but she's not
@@divdesmitpirmais correct! That would be me in my college days :) thanks! You guys are sweet.

This performance was absolutely amazing! I loved the use of the glasses, truly creative and brilliant! My compliments to the conductor
Annie Limon It's written in the score by the composer himself :)
That's amazing!
幻想的で美しい曲です。そしてソロの女性がとても上手い!

I don't see a Latvian translation. There is no English translation either.
Nice! Could you please tell me which chimettes (and which range) the choir used??
who is the composer of this interesting piece? and who names their child "Barlow"? ;-)

Gils
isn't the soloist part supposed to be a tenor?
anyway, it is still good eventhough the solo part was sung by a soprano.

in my score, it just says voice solo
