  • Pokemon Gen 3 Competitive Singles is a great format where unique strategies always seem to pop up in tournaments. Camerupt is terrible in almost every Generation, but in Gen 3 it's Fire/Ground typing provides valuable immunities to Electric and Burn, while also being Neutral to Ice and Grass, unlike any other Ground type. This unique set of traits means Camerupt is an excellent check to Zapdos, Jolteon and Gengar, and provides Offensive pressure too thanks to Fire/Grass coverage and Explosion.
    I am not talking about Mega Camerupt, rather, I'm talking about regular Camerupt. Mega-Camerupt isn't involved.

    Please read all of the below text. It's absolutely imperative.
    Game Freak just blew all other online game development schools out of the water with this incredible new 2022 release. You're gonna need to get a game design degree online, and FAST, if you want to make a better game than this. Not even the best strategy games android reddit could hold a candle to this breathtaking Next generation competitive Pokemon experience.
    Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
    Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
    Pokemon better than their evolutions are few and far between. Chansey is one of them in some scenarios. Pokemon toys School could learn a lot from certain Pokemon designs, for example, Gholdengo and its iconic visual appeal. Maybe one day, I'll get to explain How I won the biggest Pokemon tournament, if I ever do that. For now, I haven't won the biggest tournament.

      Camarupt needs a 3rd stage evolution, what do you think of turning him from a slow mixed attacker into a special atacker with a lot more special def and hp, and make him hella slow with trick room, or give him a signature move, Ekrixi/Pele pele (greek/hawaiian for eruption) a ground type special move when used after the opponent attacks, and if that attack can knock out Camerupt+ it lets you survive the blow with 1 hp, its hidden effect gives your explosion a priority level lower than extreme speed, plus lowers your opponent's def just like the good old days.

    Camerupt is a victim of the type-based physical/special designation from gen 3. It could have been given better bulk in place of 100 attack, but it needed to have similar attacking stats to make use of its fire and ground stab. Obviously camerupt has other weaknesses, but this is one that stands out to me as being more of a game design problem.

    It’s funny, because in Gen 7 OU Mega Camerupt is quite good as an anti-meta pick thanks to that Fire/Ground typing’s unique defensive traits as well.
    It’s a good check to many Tapu Koko and Mega Mawile variants and a lot of Magearna variants, and can even pressure other defensive mons like Mantine with Nature Power in Electric Terrain. It obviously faces tons of competition because it takes up your Mega slot and it isn’t extraordinarily bulky, but that weird typing has some *serious* merit to it.

  • @hiei49

    I have 2 video ideas that at least im curious to hear
    1) Dedicated rain teams in adv ou (not just ttar removal to set up rain dance for resets)
    2) Viability of digglet/trapinch teams

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před rokem +1

      2) Would be a Little Cup or NU topic. Dugtrio is weak as is and a big investment of a team slot; Digglet compounds the weaknesses while not offering enough in return---in theory, at least. Trapinch is frail and slower than even Blissey.
      1) Extremely underexplored, almost a non-existent team archetype. Most people stop at just Rain Dance Kingdra. I made one myself and I can tell you they are definitely viable, but it requires less brainpower to just load up a sand team instead.

  • @gio9255
    @gio9255 Před rokem +31

    Camerupt is extremely underrated. It's an incredible in-game fire type in the Hoenn games, strong against the Elite 4, and stomps most of Steven's team.
    In Gen IV, Camerupt gained the ability solid rock, giving it a bit more leeway against opposing ground types. When your competition is the excellent Hippowdon, Gliscor, Swampert, Mamoswine, and Heatran, Camerupt couldn't hope to compete. It's mega only doubled down on its weaknesses while boosting its offense.

    • @limon16025
      @limon16025 Před rokem +8

      Mega Camerupt at least goes really hard in trick room teams. Not the best mega by any means, but it's a good niche, especially in VGC.

    • @gio9255
      @gio9255 Před rokem +4

      @@limon16025Megarupt is good on trick room. It’s weaknesses to surf, EQ, and neutrality to rock slide make it a rather difficult Pokémon to keep on the field. Torkoal is a bit better thanks to its better distributed bulk, ability to provide sun support to weaken water moves, and providing similar utility in yawn and lava plume.

    • @mr.sandman7339
      @mr.sandman7339 Před rokem +4

      @@limon16025 Mega Camel even had a niche outside of Trick Room as an offensive SR setter/wallbreaker in gen 7. Tapu Koko was everywhere and Camel is one of the few things that could take its STAB combo, be immune to Volt Switch, and threaten whatever they switched into. Pairing it with Bulu for Terrain recovery and reducing opposing EQ damage was good, too.
      Obviously, Heatran could do similar things more consistently but Camel was more fun and the wallbreaking was much better since both Fire Blast and Earth Power are STAB and Sheer Force boosted.

    Heracross and starmie is an adv core I use often, since heracross is the best against defense and starmie against offense, so they work nicely. Camerupt is an anchor I use with them a lot to stop zapdos or jolteon from auto beating these tams without having to double up on grounds with swampert and flygon or run blissey which doesn't work on the more offensive team.

    I love Camerupt. Not only is he a camel with volcanoes instead of the bumps, but the designers even gave him ring targets on the sides, like at a festival game. My headcannon is that the volcanoes explode if you perfectly hit one of the rings🎉

    The funny thing is that I remember Gen 3 OU as being that tier where Suicune just steam rolled because all of its weaknesses were more or less neutralized by calm mind and it really only got walled by water absorb Pokémon and even then ice beam usually could KO those eventually. Not a lot can just tank +6 special moves. I know some sets ran only surf/calm mind/sleep talk/rest but I also know that I was playing the tier when Gen 4 was just about to come out. So things definitely changed since then.
    It is a comfort food type tier. I get why people love it, but, I just always ended up getting one move read incorrect and losing because of it. It’s too bad I don’t care much for discord. It’s be cool to get back into these older metas. Most of my friends I made during the hay day of gen 3/4 have moved on from Pokémon and I have also moved on due to losing interest when gen 8 decided to show how little Gamefreak and the Pokémon company care about the franchise. I almost think they should just go back to 2D but do everything hand drawn. Animate stuff like they did in gen 5/like how a lot of gatcha games animate characters. It can’t look any worse than what they’ve given us recently. I know Gen 9 is an improvement, but, the visuals just look like they’re not up to par with what the rest of the switch is putting out. If they were an actual indie team I’d be impressed. But they aren’t.

      Suicune is still the cheapest Pokemon in the tier with few real checks, but it's not impossible to beat or even extremely common.
      It's because Gen3OU is one of the hardest and most skill-intensive metagames of all time. It's not really for everyone in the sense that the difficulty can easily become a filter.
      Thanks to the videos of guys like Jimothy and BKC, Gen3OU has seen a surge of interest this year that has led to it becoming the consistently most played old gen OU prior to Gen7OU's ladder. So it's currently on and popping---would be a decent time to get back into it.

    In the wise words of Theasiancp3:
    "The fact that Camerupt isn't at the very least E tier is an absolute joke.
    Hilarious that back in 2014-2016, people were considering Camerupt as a B/C tier pokemon and now it's somehow F tier below BLAZIKEN. Tells me that the bottom of this tier list is a joke.
    I've used Camerupt for over 1500 games and have reached 1600 ELO while beating plenty of 1650+ ELO people in the past. The fact that it's not taken seriously is hilarious.
    Explosion, ability to switch onto Gengar, takes neutral damage from BOTH HP's (ice and grass), combination of Earthquake/FB, etc.
    The fact that it's below something like Blaziken is even more of a joke."

      Both Blaziken and Camerupt never got S-grade teams that prove definitively they aren't memes. Theorycrafting is nice and all but Practice in Gen3OU is more brutal than people imagine.
      Anyway yes I've read this on the forum.

    Camerupt is so cool, but it has similar issues to Snorlax. You have to make every turn count with good prediction. It’s so damn slow that you can’t outspeed fast Swampert and Tyranitar so you have to catch them on the switch or you can get forced out. It’s not strong enough to OHKO most Swampert with HP Grass or 2HKO Blissey with Earthquake. It’s not bulky enough to tank neutral hits repeatedly. It can’t fit HP Grass/HP Ice/Toxic/Explosion all in one set. When used well, it really makes you feel like you’ve outplayed your opponent though.

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před rokem +2

      All of that is why Camerupt is in fact a meme and the video is (valid) wishful thinking.
      It has to really serve some purpose, such as the great example of allowing Gyarados to run.
