Gen 2 Competitive Pokemon Explained

- Hey there. In my videos I cover the history of Pokemon or team styles in GSC Lower tiers. For those not in the know, GSC is the second generation of Pokemon, and my videos cover the unofficial metagame that is on Smogon. I write essays on certain Pokemon or teams, and accompany them with replays from Smogon tournaments. GSC UU (which stands for GoldSilver Crystal UnderUsed), is the third highest tier. GSC NU (NeverUsed), is the 4th lowest tier. I also do videos on GSC PU and GSC ZU, and plan to do other tiers in the future. I hope you enjoy. If you like what you see, then make sure to subscribe, like, and share!

I somehow forgot to mention that Explosion is buffed in GSC. It halves the defense of the Pokemon it hits, making it the best offensive move in the game.
this is, no joke, one of the most straight to the point explanaiton videos i ever seen. great work
I've always found the maxed out ev system of gen 1 and gen 2 super fascinating. I've always wanted to see what gen 5 would've been liked with that kind of system.
Dear God no
Sand does not need that buff
The Let’s Go games kinda had this! But it inevitably is part of the reason the meta game kinda fell off. The issue with max EVs is that it inevitably becomes extremely tanky. Even though everyone is doing max damage, they essentially have double bulk (max HP and max Def/SpDef), so games get very slow very quickly. And Let’s Go had so few support options (no spin, only one cleric move on one Pokémon, etc.), it ultimately hindered offense in that metagame, so people prefer the equivalent of EV-less (candyless). False Swipe Gaming has a great video on the metagame!
I like it, but with Rest/Talk and no viable boosting moves besides curse (Swords Dance Marowak and Growth Vaporeon being the only exceptions)....it's pretty damn stall-y
@@tylerd1297GSC offense is far stronger than GSC stall
@@tylerd1297 Actually in GSC stall teams have been struggling to keep up with offensive teams for a very long time as threats like Belly Drum Snorlax and Charizard, Swords dance Marrowak, Lovely Kiss Nidoking, and all of the Explosion pokemon in the teir can be used to easily break holes in defensive cores. Even Pokemon that are commonly used for defensive roles can help against stall like heracross which is used as a check for special threats can use megahorn to hit Really Hard against most Pokemon without a boost from Curse even skarmory isn't safe as if you are running seismic toss in your 4th move you can repeatedly hit skarmory with seismic toss on the switch forcing it to rest for a different threat to set up. Stall teams struggle with dealing with all of these threats so with good play you can usually break through the defensive team despite their best efforts.
Astounding video. I was not gifted with the ability to summarise or be concise but this has been a long time coming. The newer player base needs something as clear concise and informative as possible.
From UUBL to the extreme Lower Tier metas of 6U-10U. GSC has a lot to explore, I was happy they were okay with being cataloged/archived on the Lower Tier Network! The resources, and information will be great for new players, and we all hope to see this and other Lower Tier metas grow. :3
This is a great video. I normally only watch vids from the big channels but I'm very glad you outlined every difference in moves. I didn't know most of them as I don't play GSC. Cheers
Would also like to mention that sign-ups for the GSC Cup are gonna happen soon, and GSC Cup is (probably?) the largest GSC OU tournament that happens on Smogon each year. If you like GSC OU, it's the best way to test your skills.
As a RBY player, "The chance to thaw from a freeze is 10%" sounds heavenly.
Wonderful introduction! I'll def be sharing this around to friends I want to see try the formats for themselves!
Solid video. I wouldve liked you to go into more detail about the individual pokemon that dominate each tier and dive into the meta a bit more, but maybe you already plan on making an OU or Ubers video. The reverend video about rby Ubers literally was on auto play up next while i watched this.
Just what I was looking for, thanks!
pretty good video. Thanks for sharing this information
Thanks for the help, man!
Ima be honest as funny as it all is I actually prefer GSC. Modern just has you pouring all this time into perfecting IV recipes natures and the such. Sure it’s far easier to do all this now but I kinda prefer the whole “jump in and play” kinda style f GSC tbh.
Nice explanation
Does this go for hg ss as well ?
I don't know if it has changed much, but when I played competitive (more than 15 years ago), it wasn't that fun, at least the OU tier that was pretty much the only one that had active players back then. I remember the stall battles that lasted more than 100 turns, and the endless discussion about banning Snorlax or not. But at the same time you needed to be somewhat good at playing this gen because in some tournaments you had to play the 3 gens that existed then, so you couldn't just neglect this one. Good times nonetheless.
The gsc ou metagame has become more offensive since then, with people more commonly using explosion and thief.
see i know this accent is gay dublin but to a foreigner im sure its literally impossible to tell. sounds like nothing else. nice to listen to anyway
Why do you sound drunk?

thank you i always wondered why every single mon ran rest sleep talk thanks for the information
