When I first started in 2016, it was all about "junk"! When we had swaps our journals were to be a certain percentage of found junk which was a lot of fun. Then people started using digi kits and that really took a lot of the fun out of junk journaling and caused some to looked down their noses at people who really did use found junk in their journals. I quit swapping b/c I could afford all of the bought stuff at the time. I think it would be nice to see more real "junk" journals on the horizon!!!! Thank you for sharing this video with us today!!!!!

I agree with you I don't live near a nice craft store and I'm on extremely tight budget financially it's discouraging when you see all the CZcams videos using all these kits and special tools kind of discouraging

@@victoriapalmer5146 I felt the same way when I first started. It was actually my 6 year old who changed my mind. Watching the way she decorates her "junk journals" with bits of old paper (wallpaper, comics, old story books etc....), was an eye opener. Now we watch all the videos for inspiration, then hunt in the house and "nanny's" house for things we can use and improvise 😅

As a makeup junky I´ve built up a fair amount of over the years, I started with crappy makeup which comes handy both with junk art and polymer clay, I´m glad that I´m a hoarder, always have things to reuse for something else ;D 💜 and the thing with makeup palettes, there´s always a shade or two that you´ll never use (or rarely) so why not use it for crafting since you already paid for it :D and now days you can get a budget palette for less that a coffee, sure, it may suck to use on your face, but dang they can be awesome in art! and a HUGE plus, there´s usually a crappy sponge applicator in cheap palettes and they are a handy tool to have when crafting :D and a multipack for cheap!
This idea was really fun, and it shows that you honestly don´t need all the fancy supplies to create :)

I am an hour away from any of the craft stores. Senior on fixed income as well. Junk is my main ingredient. I do get some things from thrift stores but again a good portion of that would be considered junk as well. Lol. I make a huge amount of coffee and otherwise died paper. I buy lace shirts or skirts from those thrift stores and cut or tear them into ephemera size or strips to use in different ways I buy lots of partially used composition notebooks (for about 50 cents) to alter. Seasonal junk mail catalogs give me holiday fussy cuts and words. We have a store near us they gets a lot of brown packing paper and they don’t mind me collecting it. I do buy the occasional stickers or glue or necessary stuff. But mostly it’s stuff I already have or junk I find.

About brightly colored nail polish in different colors using it like paint or using it to stamp... and I bet all those crazy colors of lipstick would work just like the shoe polish does

Old eye make up can also be used as watercolour. You can also die your white kopypaper with tea or coffe. It will curl a little, during drying but you can ioern it on low temperature.

Pam, you're my junk journaling guru, gotta tell ya that. Out of curiosity, I went around our house (oldest sister and I share) and collected every single loose bit of paper I could find. I had some green, hanging file folders so made the cover. Since then, I've called it my "Ken Shabby-Chic Junk Journal". A Monty Python fan would get that, lol! It is SO COOL and my next personal junk journal after my current/first one is completed (from a gutted old book I learned from your video about that!).
Although there are a lot of great journalers out there, I weeded many out (I was getting overwhelmed!) and now subscribe to you and Johanna Clough only. My obsession with junk journaling has been kind of on hold during the summer months cuz it's been so darned hot, but I'm going to re-organize everything and get back into it in time for Christmas gifts to my family. Two of my sisters are extremely talented in crafts; I feel so proud that they've complimented me on my journalmaking! It took decades, but I've finally found MY craft, lol! Kinda wish I'd known how awesome it is a long time ago, but oh well. I even made my own Book of Shadows, which is really what a pagan-type should do.
Sorry so long, feeling kinda manic today!
(PS -- One great thing about this green file folder being the cover -- it's easy to add signatures! Went from 3 to 6.)

I really enjoy your presentations. You're down to earth and all common sense. Some of the other videos sound like the people need an intervention!! Love listening and watching your stuff. I never understood the whole point of doing "junk" journals, and calling them junk seems to degrade them. Maybe some day I'll .make one, but for now I'll watch.

Oh yes! I just started my journey into junk journaling. And yes, it is tempting to buy all the stuff but then again isn’t this cheating? It’s not junk anymore. So yes, I bought a lot of stuff ( stamps, fancy paper -for cheap of course- some distress inks and lots more..) but still I don’t have all I think I need. So thanks for taking us back to the basics. I have more make up that I don’t like and more I can ever use. So this is a great use for it.

Pam, when I discovered "junk " journaling, this idea was what I thought it was, using your junk...Now I see videos with all kinds of expensive papers and tools, and I guess their junk is being thrown in the trash...?? you think???

If you notice, what ideas crafty people come up with, are very soon “mass produced” by marketers. Case in point - tea light snowmen. Cute, when I first saw crafters making. Cheap looking when I found them for sale in a big box store. Hand painted signs by crafters on wood - preprinted laminate signs for sale in big box stores. Crafting world thinks it up. Big box stores mass produces them the next year.
