Devils fans here - this has basically been the story of our season. Sorry it was the Leafs but this is cathartic for us lol
So Leafy.
U can shoot 100 times but if they are feom the outside and are not high danger, that stat is useless. Devils played a strong defensive game.
The Leafs had 20 High-danger chances to the Devils 14, the shots are a little more lopsided than actual scoring chances but 20 HDCF is plenty to win a hockey game where the opposing goalie doesn't stand on his brain.@@jaystyx5134

Is it just me, or did Mccabe/Benoit look good as a D pair? To me, they looked to be the best D pairing I have seen the Leafs produce in many many years. But, Sheldon decided to "break his own heart" by scratching Benoit when ughhhhhh Lbyushkin rejoind

Can we address the real issue here? McCabe has played with like 4 different partners in 3 games... yes, hes good with Benoit. Yes, hes good with Rielly. Yes, he can work with brodie and liljegren. this isnt a pickup game, keefe has had rhe majority of the players on this roster for the past half decade. how in the absolute fuck does he STILL not know who works with who?!?! Keefe needs to go. we're 10 games from the playoffs and no one knows who is and isnt a roster player on a game to game basis???

@@PopShoppekidI think the pens did it too, with a winning record at the time, and the coach even had cancer,, I can’t for the life of me remember who that coach was, but they fired him I wanna say just over half the way through the season when the pens went on a bit of a spiral, just a little spiral at that, and they went on to win the cup that year, I like Sheldon, but just not WITH the leafs!

@@chrisorrell3066 they didn't fire the coach that year, he stepped away from the team because he was gravely ill and could no longer work behind the bench; i think he passed during the offseason. Pretty shitty to imply that a team would just step away from a coach who's dying just to spark some wins, but I expect nothing less from a Toronto fan.

I blame Keefe to be honest. There's 10 games left in the season and hes blending the lines like its a preseason game. let the boys find chemistry and you'll see defensive mistakes happen WAY less often.

@@dronemachine4694i personally dont think boston is very good. in a 7 game series Florida, Carolina, Rangers, Oilers, Jets, and Aves beat them. Their goalies and a really solid first 2 months have carried them. they too have looked pretty bad against other teams, and only when compared to the leafs, a team also blending a lot, do they look strong
@@WalkableBulb905understandable, but why is mccabe not with benoit, a fairly consistent and good combo. Why is JT up with Willy again tonight when hes looked horrible beside him all season. Why is robertson playing alongside knies and holmberg when hes gotten 8 goals alongside matthews. Why is knies still on that 3rd line when he was doing great on the first. Why is it I still cant say Kampfs line (which is a shut down line) without knowing who the other 2 shut down guys are. Sometimes you gotta try something longer than 5 shifts so that the guys can understand how others play.

Maybe Bratt got those 3 assists because he's tired of Steve saying his name wrong. Also, it's not only Jake Allen but also the Devils finally have Nico, Jack and Timo healthy and contributing. They still have a lot of guy out on D so they deserve more credit than just saying it was the goaltending.
The D can be the best, but at 40+ shots on goal, the goalie is usually the difference maker assuming you won. Happy that Jake the Snake is doing well in Jersey! Great guy to have around in the locker room too, but you guys shouldn't overplay him. Wish you a better next season!

I was watching the first period and the shots were 22 to 7 for the Leafs with the game tied 1 -1 and I said to my son that the Devils will be leading 2 - 1 and the shots will be 25 - 8. This team needs a coach that can teach them to pay defense. They have absolutely no structure in their end of the ice.
Leafs Fans: "What does it take to have be successful coach in the NHL?"

One playoff series won out of 8? Clown show. Yeah Matthews and this bunch fold in game 6’s and 7’s.Quinn’s Leafs won 7 playoff series!! In less seasons than this sorry lot. Yes if you define success as pretty good regular seasons ok but the playoffs is the real season.

That Cordell tweet def sums up the Devils issues this year lol. Granted they sucked in the first and are also missing some key pieces and Jack Hughes is clearly still hurt, but yea. The Devils are still an insanely talented team that easily could be in a playoff spot if their goaltending didn’t drop around 16+ points by itself all year. They’d actually have around the same number of points the leafs did.
But yea, leafs came out hot, devils scored and course corrected in the 2nd and once they got they lead they seemed to not allow that many dangerous chances in the third and bid their time.
but using that same analysis, Leafs could also be way higher if the goaltending wasn't so bad for so long (Samsonov was statistically the worst starter for a good while)

Leafs D is not the only problem. Look at the cycle in the O-Zone. It's like it is in slow motion and teams can easily steal the puck, goalies can get set. It's just inexcusable.
