- Biometric data-either first-generation (static biological data) or second- generation (dynamic socio-spatial biological data)-is extracted from the biological and social aspects of individuals and used in surveillance for purposes of national security, civic responsibility, and business administration. As this data is intertwined with human experience, its collection and use provokes concerns around individuals’ right to privacy. In this seminar, our panel will discuss the ethical considerations of privacy in the collection and use of biometric data, and explores the associated regulatory requirements. It will build on the findings of ORF’s research paper, Ethical and Regulatory Considerations in the Collection and Use of Biometric Data.
