heard him when i was at university in the Philippines.in the late 1970s..he gave a GLORIOUS tchaikowsky at the cultural center...the huge audience was SPELL BOUND...at the BEAUTY of the playing and to hear that the VIOLIN had such TONES .that SOARED every pianissimo...every powerful section..sometimes the audience would gasp trying to control themselves at such BEAUTY!!..I WILL NEVER forget it...

Leonid Kogan was a great vilonist and Svetlanov a great conductor. This is one of the best versions available. For sure, there are other ones, but this one satnds btewwen the best ones.

@@isuckateverything2648 to these 3 we can add a couple from a younger generation: Itzak Perlman and Anna Sofie Mutter, both incredible masters of the instrument and artistry. There will be more of young violinists, working hard and striving to become masters. And these 3 will be their golden standard.

This is the best violin concerto ever written. It sounds good no matter who plays it.
Der klare und zugleich süße Ton der Solovioline klingt außergewöhnlich schön. Die zurückgehaltenen Töne des ganzen Orchesters unter der künstlerischen Leitung vom genialen Dirigenten sind auch bewundernswert. Bestimmt eine der zehn besten Aufführungen im 20. Jahrhundert!

Обожаю скрипичные концерты Мендельсона.А ведь сочинил он их,будучи ребёнком.
Леонид Коган-величайший скрипач Мира, а П И Чайковский-величайший русский композитор. Исполнение скрипич конц Чайковского Леонидом Коганом-вел чайшее событие в мире музыки на все времена!

It's Violin Concerto. He wrote only one, not two!
There's a D minor concerto written in 1822. Some consider it as his first violin concerto, some don't.

c'est faux , il existe un second concerto pour violon de Mendelssohn , en ré mineur pour violon et orchestre à corde ,écrit en 1822 ,Mendelsshon n'avait alors que 13 ans . Il ne faut pas parler sans savoir !
