    • @soysaucehairdye7869
      @soysaucehairdye7869 Před 5 lety +41

The major penalty in Vegas and the offsides review in Colorado were technically fair calls. The fact that the LGK gave up four goals in a major penalty is inexcusable especially considering they were up in the series 3 games to 1 and blew 3 games in a row. With that said, the hand pass call against the blues and tonight's no call were beyond bad and game breaking. However, I can see this as a good thing for the Bruins in the long run if they use the piss poor officiating as a motivating factor to win the next two games like the blues did for the last 3 games in the sharks series. Time is a flat circle.

I'm really torn on how to feel on this. The Blues have worked too hard to deserve an asterisk and had to overcome the hand pass. I've been waiting my entire life to see the Blues hoist the trophy and to see a parade down 14th and Clark. My neighbor -- who I bonded with greatly because of the Blues -- passed away in December and had been a Blues fan since their inception. He just didn't make it long enough in life to see the Blues win a finals game, let alone be one game away. This is for him. This is for us. This is for Laila. This is for Bob Plager. This is for St. Louis.
Bozak tripped Acciari. Plain and simple. It was a penalty. It was an egregious example of the poor officiating in these playoffs. I feel bad for the Bruins fans out there. We've been there. I worry that Boston will rally around this mistake and come out and dominate games 6 and 7 much like the Blues against San Jose.
I want the Blues to win the Cup. I want them to deserve it. I want the focus to be on the turnaround, the city and the team. Not on the refs. The guys in Blue deserve better.

    • @loulimina
      @loulimina Před 5 lety +1

Exactly. Everyone will talk about this. If the Blues win, they'll talk about how they stole game 5 on account of abysmal officiating; if the Bruins win, they'll talk about how they rallied, back against the wall, after an awfully blown call in game 5.
I'm a bruins fan, and I don't think I'll be disappointed regardless of which team wins. If the Blues win it, outstanding; what a great story and a great season. If the Bruins win it, it's like it's 1970 again (I guarantee that if game 7 goes to OT, the winning goal scorer will leap in the air like that other old timey hockey player).
But I'm also a fan of the sport. This non call is the exact same thing as the blown pass interference call in the New Orleans - Los Angeles NFL game. No guarantee that had it been called it would have changed the outcome of the game.
I don't think the Bruins deserved to win this one. They looked dysfunctional, mishandling the puck, bad, careless turnovers, they didn't handle the pressure of the Blues well etc. I think Boston would have lost that game regardless, but that blown call really does tarnish the otherwise movie-like Blues story. At the end of the day, I think all Blues fans would agree that while winning is winning, if the Blues win this cup, there will always be that thought in the back of the fans' heads: "yeah but that game 5 trip man... did we win because of a blown call?"...

I hate to be devil’s advocate, but I don’t quite see it that way. The reason why everybody stopped skating, including Bozak himself, was because of how obvious it was. The players for both teams assumed that the call was about to be made, similar to when the puck went into the net at Columbus, and that was why they stopped skating. Sure, good on Perron for sticking with the play, but that was a penalty and is an atrocious missed call. Get it right and we don’t have these discussions. The blues still had a 1 goal lead at that point and there is no guarantee the bruins would have tied it up if they just got it right.

Yep. The slew foot was a penalty straight from the books. No call made though, and the only reason anyone remembers it is because it was followed directly by a goal. There were, as there always are, missed calls both ways.
The slash in Binnington is a minor penalty at the least. Not positive what the rules are, but I'd say it's arguable the slash is s double minor for GT interference and slashing. But who cares? The shot following didn't go in, and if it did, I'm sure it would have received controversy rather than the none at all.
Even as a blues fan, I don't think the right call was made I also don't think that one call beat the bruins tonight. Boston had time to recoup and plenty of chances to bury goals, but they weren't able to for all but one shot. Bad call? Yes. Is it why the blues won tonight? Probsbly not.

pretty bad but is what it is we got outplayed so that sucks the refs dont suck its not their fault its the nhl fault. The league is run by retarded bafoons. Its a fast paced game and you know what Have one or two refs sit in the back lacking at video. Than all the other refs and linesman are equipped with walkies talkie to communicate with these refs. each time something like this happens those refs in the back simply say Aye we might wanna take a look over this. Imagine all the problems this would fix and it wouldn't slow the game down at all. Think about the conversations ref 1 can ask video referees if the puck touched the glass when it went out the ref could then say nope it did not therefore it is a penalty would take all of 15 seconds but the calls would be spot on accurate each time. Not the refs fault the game is so fast its the dumbass leagues fault. But to answer your question yeah its unfortunate and it happens to evreybody but what you gonna do boston is going to have to try to do something your team did in 2006 win the stanley cup on home ice.

That's been my thinking as well. I really doubt the Bruins could have won this game. It's pretty convenient for some fans to blame the entire game on a single call. So it's not the Bruins responsibility to overcome adversity? The Blues have overcome much tougher adversity than this and won. The "hand pass play" was much worse than this. I honestly think Acciari's embellishment on that play is why there was no call. If you look at the play it sure looks like he pushed off of his right foot after the initial trip. It was a trip, no doubt about it. Perhaps the refs felt Acciari tried to sell it a bit too much? Do you think Acciari wouldn't do something like that if he felt it could help his team win the game? That being said it sucks to see it happen. Controversy sucks, and the controversy in this post-season has been a big part of the story. Hopefully there is change that comes from all of this controversy. The series isn't over, and if the Bruins truly are the better team than they will win the series.

I agree with you about Chara. Considering the difficulty Boston has had trying to generate offense, skating a proper 12/6 lineup is more important than having your 42 yr old captain with a broken jaw on the ice (for the record, this isn't intended as a knock on Chara..it's just reality). If Chara had been producing, I could understand. But Boston needed to shake up their lines & his injury provided the perfect opportunity. Instead, they excessively taxed an already struggling forward corps.
As to the non-call, I agree with your assessment that the refs were playing the "balance the calls" game. Nobody wants refs deciding the outcome of the game. But by not making that call, they did exactly what they were trying to avoid. It was too blatant, the idea that he embellished is ludicrous (he clearly was, if nothing else, stunned), and considering a ref is standing in that corner plus the penalty happening on the puck, I can't by the "didn't see it" defense. It was a terrible no-call that might very well be the thing people remember most about this finals if the Blues win.
Considering how this season went for St. Louis and how crazy these playoffs have been, it'd be a shame if that happens. Theirs is the kind of story true hockey fans love about the game. A tale of a season that nobody could have seen coming at the beginning of the new year, let alone the beginning of the season...

In the end, it may not matter. Time and the playoff grind perhaps has caught up to the Bruins. I figured they had an edge with experience but it doesn’t seem to be making any difference. Not playing to the whistle on a penalty that should have been called is the kind of mistake they shouldn’t make, but they did. I think they’re past desperate at this point. That’s why I figured making a significant change to the lineup might shake them up a bit. Give St. Louis a different look to defend. Chara being hurt this badly was the perfect excuse to do that. Like I said, Boston may be already past the bottom of the barrel. I hope I’m wrong. I don’t want St.Louis to win the cup. But it’s probably going to happen.

Actually, the 6th man had literally nothing to do with the Bruins scoring. He was two zones away from the puck, then retreated back to the bench before Boston even put up a shot. Unless you'd prefer refs to watch line changes instead of the puck, which is shades of Stevens on Kariya just begging to happen, I don't know what you want the NHL to do about it. Not every line change is going to be analyzed during play, especially if a 6th man had no effect on play to begin with. Slewfoots, however, especially on puck carriers, is just plain inexcusable. Isn't the NHL supposed to be cracking down on head injuries? Apparently not, since Acciari was concussed from the hit and he got accused of diving from a hit he didn't expect while his dominant leg was swept over his hip by a guy that had 20 lbs on him. Let's recreate this experiment and see how many times you eat shit, bubba.

Doesn't mean I have to like it or hate it, but it's a Judgement Call. Stop with the blown call, or missed call. What a way to win games. Oh and if for some reason the refs start calling penalties on them for "dirty" play their coach will just whine about it to the NHL until it stops.

The trip pumped up Boston big time, tilted the ice for them and helped them score and make it a 1-goal game again.

It was a bad missed call. I won't dispute that.
But there is NO excuse for the Bruins players to stop playing, when no call was made. They stood around on the ice(not literally. Being hyperbolic), expecting and waiting for a call. If they kept playing, they could have easily defended that chance. They stop playing hard, and let Perron walk in.
I also don't think the missed call was as bad as people make it out to be. Bozak was sideways, trying to stop. He had a Bruin behind him and couldn't do anything. His leg caught Accari's, and it was an unfortunate fall for him. Don't think he embellished, and yeah, it's a trip, intentional or not. I feel the refs may have felt it was incidental. People are acting like it was some super dirty play. It wasn't. It was a trip, but not an intentional one.
There's also no way to know for sure if Boston would have won the game. They may not have even scored the one goal that they did.

I also seem to remember a game earlier in the series where Boston scored with too many men on the ice, and that was a pivotal goal. Both teams have been taking dives/embellishing the whole series to try to get calls, but the refs haven't been buying it since Game 3.

And I'm not even a friggin Bruins fan. You won't see an easier goal in a series like this. The 2 Blues coming back down to the net had the easy task of exposing the 1 Bruin who was forced to overcompensate due to the rest of his teammates tied up with...more important things...tons of room in front of the net and game over.

Just like how they pushed even harder after the DeBrusk score the same thing happens. Therefore they put another one in.

Yes! Been a Blues fan since I was a kid. No worries about the jersey--it's great that despite watching your team take a really difficult loss on a controversial call, you still wore a hat of the opposing team and gave a great analysis. Overall, thanks for adding something great to my enjoyment of the playoffs this year. I'm going to send you $10 on Patreon.

Keep your head up, Shannon. I know it's rough when your favorite team loses in the finals, but you guys are still in this, don't give up just yet!

"Only shot that counts is the one that goes in "
    That's from my Highschool coach.
Also, "a goalie protects the net, not the posts."
    Quote from the same coach.

    Three quick things:
    1. Yes, ask Calgary fans about the Bolts' "asterisk" Cup win in 2004. Flames fans love to lament that disallowed goal in game six.
    2. You absolutely hit it on the head at 14:30. As someone cheering for the Blues (more for certain players to win, than the team as a whole), we absolutely got robbed of the true ending of that game. Maybe the result of the game would have been the same. The Blues could have killed the penalty, maybe even scored a shortie. Who knows.
This is like playing a video game with multiple endings, and because of one bad choice, you get the 'bad ending' instead of the 'true ending'.
    3. Shannon, you are the best my man! The best! I'm sorry for all the emotions, I'm feeling them too. But thanks for your channel, and keep up the excellent work!

I hope you applied that same logic to the Sharks after that hand pass. Unlike all other Blues' fans crying conspiracy.

You mean with respect to "being robbed" of a true ending?
      Yes, absolutely.
I understand, bad/missed calls are a part of any sport, and you have to play through them. However, when big moments like that, that have a major impact on the game, somehow go 'unnoticed', it is very egregious in my opinion. Ruins the whole vibe. Even if the end result is still what I was hoping for, games this important shouldn't be ending on such a sour note.

Great vid. Appreciate your honesty. Hate the game ended like this...and if we (STL) are lucky enough to win the Cup my fear is this will be remembered more than the incredible run. Sigh...
On the jersey: no worries - totally get it. As long as you wear it after Sunday’s game 😉

Gloria! Yes, it is unfortunate that another awkward call leaves a blemish on a great game. We've been on that side, and it is incredibly frustrating, understand that. We don't want that either; everybody just wants an honest game. Still proud of my Blues for battling hard tonight- regardless of that call, they played well and dug in for that win. It's an amazing feeling to know that we are actually just one win away from finally getting to raise Lord Stanley to the skies. Stay strong Blues! Keep the drive alive! #BleedBlue #LGB

If you watch the replay from behind them where the ref was standing Bozak's and Carlo's legs are both right there and I think the ref couldn't tell which one of them tripped up Acciari.

I can’t believe the amount of people in the comments complaining about him not wearing a Blues jersey or that he’s biased. This man has given us incredible, and almost entirely unbiased content every day for this entire postseason. Definitely more unbiased than NBC, SN, or the NHL network have been.
His favorite team just took a heartbreaking defeat in game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals, and right after he came and made this video for us. He didn’t have to, he chose to. And instead of whining and moaning about the call, he gave his opinion and left it at that. Give the man a break. He, once again, put out a fantastic video, and he doesn’t deserve any of that BS.

You're the best hockey man on CZcams, Shannon. You always keep your neutral outlook even when you're angry or heart broken and I really respect you and your opinions. If the Bruins weren't so hated I'd feel worse for them but even then I know It's awful for both sides when it ends on controversy. But the best teams have to overcome these things and the series Isn't over yet. Boston can still show us they're a champion team. I just wish these controversies are gone soon.
