    But isnt dialect the same as lanuage?

      Great question, @Imtryingtomakeitpast7thgrad3! As this video suggests, dialect is a smaller category than the term language--one that designates a particular kind of group based upon location (for example, Pittsburghese) or social group (for example, Chicano English). That's why it gets its own term. Thanks for keeping the conversation going!
