  • Basically the "Heart Transplant" of a wasted 372 X-Torq from XT to OE
    Also a great review on how to assemble a Husqvarna 372, But gets into detail about the differences between those two series of saws, and they are essentially Different designs. They share the cases. crank, and gas tank but that's about it.

    I just put together a huztl 372xp kit with their 52mm big bore kit, I had no issues or missing parts but did have a few extra screws. I ran it with no base gasket and just checked the squish and it came in at .10 tho. I have not done a compression check but have ran one tank thought it and it's a beast. Right now have the rpm set at 13500.

    Double the solder over itself and try again. All of the Farmertec cylinders, lately, have been running in the .050 range. The cylinder I got with my 372 kit had .050, so I bought a Nikasil cylinder and even it had .040 squish. I built it with a base gasket because the cylinder bolts were to long to build it without it. It runs fine with a squish about .060. I wish I hade a lathe so I could deck these cylinders but I do not. I have to build with what I have or can get.

    It is not down on power, just won’t start, reliably. It pops and fizzles instead of burning. It idles ok but not as smooth as my other saws. It will walk off my work bench at idle. Based upon your comments, I think it is a squid problem and I am going to measure it. Matt thinks it is in the .040 range but if it were there it would run pretty much normally, based upon your comments. I think you have to pull it so fast the air mixture does not have time to diffuse outside the squish band before the plug fires. Then, it will start, otherwise it pops or fizzles but not with enough center line force to get the engine going in the right direction. Just a guess. All this is just subjective until I measure it. I hope I have solder thick enough to measure it. I can remove the base gasket and pick up .020. I do not have the necessary equipment to deck it out to .020. If it is as large as I think I could get a new jug and piston from hlsupply.

    I know it scared me the first time I put it in a big Akka log. I thought it wanted to suck me right in the kerf. I let off the throttle and it was through a 16 inch log before I could blink. I let off it just soon enough to keep the chain out of the dirt. It has an new LGX on it 3/8, .050, 72 on a 20 inch pro Forrester bar. The saw needs shoulder straps but it cuts.

    i,m just building a hutzl with the 52 mm bb cyl , without the base gasket it was 37 thou , the base gasket was 22 thou , so ill remove about 35 thou off it and use the gasket so will be about 25thou or so , , not real happy with the flywheel tho as there is a little bump on it , not a real nice keyway , see how it goes :-) i found the intake boot fitted real nice , fitted to the cyl and then dropped in to the splitter , was tight but fitted well so see how it goes , also that 52 mm piston is a single ring and mine is a 2 ring , is that kit a Hyway ? mine is the Hutzl

    Hi Walt .the boat refurbishing would be a good fit for the channel.life is good when interests can be mixed up.if that mercury is a 2 stroke, 3 cylinder.I for one would watch with great interest.good tool for brake spring they can be a s.o.b

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 6 lety +1

      I have three motors actually four that will be rebuilt on the channel at some point. Understand Mercury bought Force which was the remnants of the Chrysler. AND to confuse things more, Mariner and Merc absorbed those designs into their lines. I have a true Mercury in line 6 cylinder 115hp motor that's solid. A 115hp Mariner 4 cylinder that's really derived from the Force motors, a 3 Cylinder 85hp Merc that also is a derivative of that mariner/Force design. last but least a Mk58a I'm building into a short shaft version for a little aluminum boat...should be fun.

      I have no outboard experience my self but a buddy, with years, I don't get to see often enough had a Yamaha square 4 2stroke outboard in for a repair if he could manage it.I think it was 500cc..this man carried out repairs of every kind..self taught.if I rembember correctly intermittent spark due to scruffy wiring was one issue...there was something clever about fuel delivery that illudes at the moment..but he was impressed enough to explain it.

  • @johnclarke6647

    Yes, it is a beast. It is scary at WFO in wood. I told Matt it would send his 390 back to the schoolyard, but he does not believe it. It sounds like a 327 with a Crane cam and good headers. The problem is in cranking it and there are not to many bigfoots where I live. It will yank that handle out of my hand faster than a trap on a carrier and I have gone through both. Z😳

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 5 lety

      A well set up 660 will eat a 390 stocker. My 'Farmer Jones" build eats even tweaked 390's. Not certain why but even with their primitive transfer port design's those saws are beasts when the squish is right and the muffler is done right. Add a couple of finger ports and it will stick with a modded 390 as it can move enough air to rev as well. I've really enjoyed mine and frankly they surprised the crap out of me once I figured them out..;)

    Could this same be done in 365 XT? Is possible downgrade back to 365/72XP?

  • @johnclarke6647
    @johnclarke6647 Před 5 lety

    I measured the squish four times and it is .0225. That plays into the high compression I feel when I pull it. I did notice the intake boot looked a little crooked going through the rear wall. I tried to straighten it up with my fingers. Do you think I should put an oem boot on it? I did notice some gas on the back of the carb when I pulled it off one time, like it was not sealing properly. This damn saw has my goat. Usually superior German intelligence can overcome German engineering, but not this time.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 5 lety

      Can't beat that squish! Probably a beast when you do get it started is my guess. I always recommend OEM rubber parts when ever someone will listen. Have to ask if its simply are you getting enough RPM's when you pull?

    What would I have to do to convert a huztl/farmertec/holzfforma 372 to a 372xp? I am planning to buy the kit soon and I'm not 100% sure about what I want to do to it, but if anything I'm interested in the x-torq conversion if possible. I can probably "farmer jones it too but i would like to know a recommended priority list. Thanks!

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 5 lety +1

      Make no sense to turn it to an X-Torq. Your best move is to buy a Hyway 52mm top end and a better carb. Run the rest if its the kit.

    Walt. I have a question. Do you ever measure ring end gap on a new set of rings. I measured a new set today and it was almost non-existant. I had to strain my eyes to even find where the end of the rings met. In the old days it was 1.5 thousandth of bore diameter, but I have never seen anyone measure the end gap on a set of rings on a chainsaw. My guess is my 46mm jug should have an end gap of .003, based upon my old formula. Your thoughts.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 5 lety

      Same as your on that subject. Think I brought that subject forward either building one of the 245's or 55's.

  • @johnclarke6647
    @johnclarke6647 Před 5 lety

    Walt, What would happen if you had an abnormally large squish?lets say in the .060 range, would it pop instead of firing?

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 5 lety

      Would be down on power as compared to a typical .020-.040 squish saw. but yes, a lower compression saw has a harder time at low RPM's as compared to one with higher compression. and that is independent to how fast an operator can get them turning. Same RPM, a higher compression starts better.

    So the lighter xtorq flywheel works on the oe saws and gives throttle response gains?

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 4 lety +2

      First the X-Torq flywheel is heavier than the OE 371 early 372 flywheels from the 90's, Second any time you reduce weight on that rotating system the throttle response will be quicker. Just understand there is no more power, just how fast that mass can accelerate.

      Not from me as I only have one and its not going anywhere. Bob doesn't sell his oldies so I would say you have to do what we do, lurk on eBay and the "for sale" places. One place it the "marketplace" on facebook, I've stumbled on things there and craigslist..
