    As I turn 50 I'm culling my CD collection. 1,500 CDs down to 700. It's a space thing, and 25 year old me is different than 50 year old me.

    I’m not ready to do that but I cut down buying records and just listen to the records I already have.

    I got rid of about a hundred or so of my records about a year ago that I simply didn't listen to anymore. Even with this being the case, when I sold them it was difficult becuae I've had a tendency to get emotionally attached to music since I was a kid. It helped that I replaced them with about 20 or so more expensive records I really wanted, and one I got those I was happy with my decision. So, in essence, I traded quantity for quality and I'm happier with my collection as a whole now.

    I sell records at an antique shop so I am constantly picking up records that I know I can turn quickly and I am always looking for upgrade copies of records knowing that I can sell off my lesser copy. I also will cull my collection every so often. I have been thinking about doing a larger purge. I have many records that I do not listen to in my collection even though they are great titles. Some are very collectible and will sell instantly. I just worry that I will regret it. I’m glad you were able to make space on your shelves for some new records.
    Cheers,
    Brian☘️

    It gets a little easier the more you do it. I have parted ways with around 300 or so over the past eighteen months. I was trending towards the 1000 mark so deemed it time to condense to more of an all killer no filler for my taste.

    Stellar trade-ins, you definitely made multiple peoples day for sure. Motivation to go thru my collection.

    Same here Nick - have just listed around 35. Was trying to get 50 but found it pretty difficult decision on which ones to let go. Good news is once I sell I can replenish with some new records 😊

    I’m glad you were pleased with the offer. I did my best to be fair with you and to be accurate. The strength of titles you brought us was outstanding. Thanks!

    I purge probably once a year, and also sell back to my local shop. I just see no reason to keep albums I know I won't be spinning & yes the small amount of $$ I get back goes right back into new vinyl.

    You're not doing to bad, over the years I've probably got rid of 2500 - 3000 records and now have less than 300 LP's in my collection with some replaced with the cd equivalent because the pressing quality was so poor, I just got fed up with the hassle and now very rarely bother with vinyl

    Hi, there. I too have done this in the last few months. Never thought I would sell part of something that is part of my life passion. The present state of inflation.... I figured why I was hanging onto things I never put on. I even sold collections I enjoyed. I still buy music but I am doing a streamlining of my collection. I did the Discogs thing... but I sold to a local record store.

    I hear ya man, I did the same a while ago. But COME ON MAN, tell us how much you got!!? LOL, genuinely curious though. I went for store credit last time, just to maximize what amount I got.

    I hear the record stores do not offer a fair price to resell. What is a fair price for records in good condition? I just think it is a very depressing thing to get 2 or 4 dollars for a record they will sell for 25 or 30 bucks or more.

      @oneweekfromwednesday Před rokem +2

      yeah there's only one local near me that gives a decent amount for stuff. most of them give $2 to $3 and sell em for $21 or more

    I bought nearly 600 LPs during the format heyday, never considered selling any of them, even after I switched to compact disc. Since the LP revival, I've actually ordered a couple vinyl LPs I had checked out of the local library and recorded onto cheap cassettes in the late 1970's. The releases I ordered of those library albums were reasonably priced, still sealed, so I bought them from the sellers, opened them, and digitized them after I got them. The albums haven't been reissued on CD, but I really liked them.

    For me, it has to be something I have never really listened to or listened to once or twice. If it's something I loved at one point, it will come back around again.

      Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. That's why I only sold albums that I had duplicates of.

    When i find a "better" pressing or better condition record then the one i have. I buy it and sell the old one. Im one of those who looking for the older (first pressings if i can find them) so i upgrade pressings and condition all the time. Since i buy used stuff it is a never ending process.

    To me, it's like giving up a few of your children. However, I replenish and rebought the records I love, and I am currently working on it.

    Be careful. I have had experiences of selling albums I thought it would be ok to part with, only to regret it and buy them again later.

    • @TheVinylDen
      @TheVinylDen  Před rokem

      I didn't want to eventually regret selling anything, that's way I only sold albums that I had multiple copies of.

    Man, I’m looking for a bunch of the albums you sold. Did you sell them to Dearborn Music?

  • @BillyJackBratwurst
    @BillyJackBratwurst Před rokem

    I’m pretty sure you don’t know how much “would be good for the record store” or “for a decent profit.” Any time someone says that, they 1. Don’t know what they’re talking about and 2. Still want too much for it.

    • @TheVinylDen
      @TheVinylDen  Před rokem

      Well, since I'm pretty familiar with the record store I sold them to, and know how much they sell similar records for, I think I'm a pretty good judge of what would be a good number for the store and myself. The number I had in my head must have been pretty close, since it was actually a little lower than what they offered me.
