  • 2023 saw 10,000+ game developers lose their jobs. We are less than 3 full months into 2024 and already the total sits over 8000.
AAA gaming and the wider gaming ecosystem seemingly can't support itself, so whats causing this and what can be done to bring the industry back on track? To end the cycle of boom and bust there are lessons AAA game publishers can take from an unlikely source....
How do you feel about the state of the industry and what can be done to course correct? Let me know in the comments section, i'll look forward to discussing it with you

Gaming industry is doing exactly what many industry do, thinking ilogically that the numbers will always keep rising up and invest based on this, players getting older, players priorities change in time, people have less children now so you don't have the amount of player you thought for the future, the economy has been getting worse so people can't put videos over other life needs, all those empires in the gaming industry grew under certain conditions but those conditions have changed and finally our creativity has a roof as game graphics vs hardware price!! Nothing can last forever, the boom in the gaming industry has already begun to fade away!!

Spot on! And I agree with what you said in the vid.
I feel that marketing can attract people over to AAA(A) games more than games with lower budgets, which happen to be better games. Stuffed is one example of a game that is fun and promising, but even having a social media campaign wasn't enough to become as widely known as the bigger games like The Finals and Destiny 2, not to mention an over-saturated market of numerous games. There have been so much shovel-ware across all markets that you don't feel like trusting any game unless you hear from others that they are having fun with the game. CZcams was huge back in the day for free promotion of smaller games, but now with 'let's play' game vids being least popular, streamers would now aim for popular live service games to compete with others.
As we hear more of bigger games launching with more flaws, especially with Starfield being Bethesha's most disappointing release thus far, we could end up with another video game crash on our hands. That is unless we for a 'ROB' moment by focusing on the same quality as likes of Palworld and Helldivers II, or even better innovate with more creative systems like the Nintendo Wii/Switch or Meta Quest. It's not we're getting bad games all the time, we just keep hearing of games that are failing to meet skyscraper high expectations.

Amazing Video man, i haven't ever heard of you before and I'm confused why. You have an awesome channel and i can't wait to see what you post next! This Video is in my opinion incredibly accurate and for the longest time I have feared for the future of gaming, and still do. However with the release of Palworld, and especially Helldivers 2, I have hope that maybe people will begin to see that there are better options out there. I hope people start to realize that we don't have to consume the slop that modern AAA studios feed us. And on top of all of that, i hope people start to realize that what we do as consumers matters, and once these massive companies see that their wallets are hurting, they're going to follow what people want. So if you keep consuming the junk, you're just going to get more junk. But if you refuse it, things get better, things change, and people get what they actually want. I was playing Helldivers with my friend and he said something i really agreed with. "Damn... I forgot how good games can be. I forgot what really having fun on a game feels like." He then explained to me that he plays a lot of COD, no hate i used to as well before it went to 💩. He said that over time, he had replaced the feeling of fun with the feeling of obligation, and the feeling of bliss with stress. In other words it wasn't fun for him, it felt like he had a second job. But after playing Helldivers, he was ACTUALLY having real fun, the kind he thought was gone for good. I hope more studios and developers see what kind of impact this game has had on gamers everywhere, and adapt to it. I can tell you one thing, if they don't...they're days as AAA giants are over because people are waking up to how far gaming has fallen...or maybe this is a fever dream...and in a month people will go back to consuming trash...ultimately, its up to us to make that decision.

It's the synergy of a passionate dev team that cares about fostering a community alongside a genuinely satisfying game experience that are so powerful and Helldivers 2 nails it!
I really hope that the AAA space takes a hard look at itself - time will tell!
Glad you enjoyed the video and the channel 👌

Don’t fear for the industry, for the players have already suffered. Now it’s time for the corporations putting out the garbage to suffer.

@@AngerMaker413 well yes but without that industry is what has given us wonderful games, so i dont want for the industry to go to hell i want them to go back to their former glory and work on something decent for once in their lifes i which i could go back to the days of warcraft and diablo, even halo or gears of war :(.

Great video. Also the free money has dried up and ideology has taken over a lot of AAA games and people want fun, not lectures.

@@SSJdaveycompanies were able to lend money for almost no interest. Because of that they hired a lot of people and invested in projects they would normally not invest in.

I haven't bought a AAA game in over 4 years. The last 3 AAA games I bought were bloated, unfinished and unoriginal messes. I've pretty much lost faith in all the major studios because to me it looks like they've started prioritizing profits over making good games. For me the final nail in the coffin was AC Valhalla. I found myself being a viking riding a polar bear feeling bored.
I've been having amazing fun with indie games made by smaller studios. I think the industry as a whole has to drastically change before it will ever see my money again.

It's a real crap shoot, there's so many great AAA games but then there's also a record amount of genuinely terrible games
I play a nice mix of everything so if you want some recommendations on AAA games let me know 👌

@@SSJdavey Nah, I've stopped paying anything more than 30 bucks for a single game and for that amount of cash you can't get a AAA game.
To me it's started to feel like gambling and I refuse to put 60-70 bucks down for a game that is more likely to disappoint than not.
