      yes Anubis had a great buildup, i just wish they did more with him, when it came down to the ascended beings, we know he was essentailly trying to overthrow the Others, but he was limited in his capability because of his chains, but they gave him significant freedom to do as he pleased.
      so much so that he essentially created a clone of himself and somehow taught that clone about ascending, sg1 stopped him from doing so, but i believe his plan involved creating many clones of himself all ascending and becoming all powerful to fight against the others.
      we don't know how many of the others numbered, but we do know that they would prevent their own from helping the lower plains ascend, which means they had a problem with population of ascended beings and could easily be overthrown due to being outnumbered, and i believe that's roughly what Oma was attempting on doing when she helped the lower plains ascend.
      you see the ascended beings hold power simply because the majority all agree on the same thing, and it would ruin them if more ascended beings came into the fold and started out numbering them and their majority vote in how things are to be done within the galaxy.
      they almost got wiped out completely when the Ori found their way into the galaxy, but they seemed to leave sg1 alone when in the past they would band together and take away something they didn't want sg1 to have control over.
      in the end their most powerful ascended being came to be Morgan le fay, and i have a theory about this, it's possible they gave up some of their power to Morgan so that she could help sg1 to stop Adria and her reign of terror.
      ascended beings aren't all seeing and all knowing, but when the Ori were a great many, they were an huge threat, but because of merlin's device, it essentially killed all of the Ori, but Adria also ascended and she absorbed all that power, but because there were no more Ori to help her, she had many blind spots and couldn't take care of everything, which weakened her significantly to the point where Morgan could easily distract her and away from SG1 so that they could see the password for the Ark.

    Heimdall is the gatekeeper of Asgard in Norse mythology. Also, this is shown in the MCU movies, (Thor) , Heimdall played by Idris Elba. Wikipedia: Heimdall (portrayed by Idris Elba) is the sole protector of the Bifröst in Asgard and ally to Thor, inspired by the mythical Heimdallr in Norse mythology.
    I also find it interesting that in Lord of the Rings (The Two Towers) the Doorward of King Theoden is called, Hama.

Somewhere.

  • @candaceparker7283
    @candaceparker7283 Před 2 lety +11

    With Michael Shanks' departure the fate of Thor was in question too. Mr. Shanks voiced him. My understanding is this episode was filmed before episode 5X21. The official word was Mr. Shanks left due to creative differences with the showrunners. Other reports supported this, claiming those differences were centered on the showrunners' decision to make the show more appealing to stereotypical sci-fi fans, 18-35 year old men, after season 3. Starting in season 4, you saw the show focus more on Jack and Sam's budding romance (ticking off many female fans and the Air Force) while Jack and Daniel's friendship became little more than a tense working relationship (the leader vs lancer troupe). There were fewer first contact missions, which made Daniel "less useful" and more stuff blowing up, making Sam "more useful". By the end of season 5, the writers essentially had no idea what purpose Daniel had. So, he was being slowly relegated to the role of pretty boy, gun-totting "lancer" with an occasional useful brain. He didn't want that so he left.

    • @PR--un4ub
      @PR--un4ub Před 2 lety

      I thought he left because he had cinematic aspirations (i.e., he wanted to star in films).

    • @DavidSmith-fs5qj
      @DavidSmith-fs5qj Před 2 lety +1

      I guess that the writers were a little hamstrung with the character of Daniel. If you take Star Trek TNG, they very wisely decided have entirely new characters rather than have differant actors playing Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and the rest. They had the issue of continuity, but that wasn't a problem early on. With Stargate, they had the feature film in which Daniel seemed out of place surrounded by the troops, so in the first episode, Daniel appeals to general Hammond to allow him to join SG-1, to look for his wife, and Hammond initially refuses, but then grants him his wish. You mentioned the focus on the Sam and Jack romance, which was never going to happen(except in an alternate reality), for me, the one relationship which would have worked would have been, Daniel and Janet(Fraiser). Daniel wasn't in the military, so no issue there and it would have given Shanks the chance to develop his character more, and also allowed Teryl Rothery to develop Janet more.
