How to use Moisturizer

  • In this video, I will demonstrate how to use a moisturizer.
    A moisturizer helps hydrate the skin, maintaining its elasticity and reducing dryness or flakiness. It can also act as a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss, protecting the skin from harmful environmental factors such as pollution, and strengthening its barrier function.
    Oily Skin: Oily skin tends to produce more oil than necessary, leading to a shiny or greasy appearance. Using a lightweight, water-based, or gel moisturizer can help hydrate the skin without making it feel more oily. Look for non-comedogenic (doesn't clog pores) products that won't contribute to acne. Examples include hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or glycerin-based moisturizers.
    Dry Skin: Dry skin lacks enough natural oils, causing it to feel tight or flaky. Using a cream or lotion that has a higher oil content can help restore moisture and lock it in. Look for ingredients such as shea butter, urea, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. These help to replenish the skin's natural barrier and retain moisture.

    But isn't it recommended that we apply our moisturizer to damp skin, and that we don't need to activate a product between our hands because it's wasteful. Dr dray said this

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před rokem +27

      Yes, there is some confusion between dry, damp, and wet skin. I'm not sure if she's been spreading that misinformation recently since I haven't watched her videos in years. She has sadly become more of a salesperson and seems to care less about her audience. It's disheartening to see this change; I'm unsure what led to it. Perhaps it's the pressure from current global events... 😞
      To clarify and answer your questions:
      Wet skin refers to skin that has a noticeable layer of water on it. You can see water droplets on the skin's surface, and you can feel the water when you touch the skin.
      Damp skin refers to skin that has been patted dry on the surface but still retains moisture internally. There are no visible water droplets on the skin's surface. It's akin to a sponge or a piece of clothing that no longer drips water but remains moist to the touch.
      Dry skin refers to skin that has been patted dry on the surface and then left for 5-10 minutes to allow the remaining moisture to evaporate. This practice involves letting the skin air dry completely before applying any products or continuing with other skincare routines. Doing so can be beneficial, especially when using potent treatments, as it allows them to absorb more slowly into the skin, thereby reducing irritation.
      In the video, I essentially demonstrated what damp skin looks like. If the explanation above wasn't clear enough, you can watch it again in this video: czcams.com/video/xNUUUr81rLE/video.html
      Regarding the product rubbing between your hands, it's not meant to activate the product, but simply to help you spread it more easily over your face. You don't really waste the product this way. What such CZcamsrs are often trying to do is create a unique application method, which helps them stand out and build a following. Of course, there are different methods of application, and it largely comes down to personal preference

    I use a salicylic acid solution at night for blackheads should I moisturize before or after or should I only use moisturizer in the morning? I also use an spf should I apply that before or after moisturizer

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 8 měsíci +1

      For blackheads, you actually need extractions; serums alone won't do the trick. And you use the moisturizer afterward.
      Here’s a simple routine:
      Clean your face.
      Pat it dry.
      Apply an SA serum.
      Wait a couple of minutes.
      Apply a moisturizer.
      And be sure to choose the right moisturizer for your skin type:

      Well, if you are unsure about how to extract them, it's best to see a dermatologist or beautician to get them extracted, and then after that, you may be able to do it yourself at home :)

    Hello, I usually have oil skin. I used gel or water based moisturizer, but my face ( the texture of my skin) started to get dry( but I still had oil on my face) with some products I used for my dark spots and I decided to use laroche posay cream moisturizer for very dry skin. Now, the texture of my face is better, but I feel that the oil on my face is getting worse. Do you advise me to go back to the gel moisturizer or do it together ( like gel type today and cream type the next day). Thanks for your help.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, because the cream is too thick, there will always be some oiliness regardless of what you do. You can only regulate it with silicone-based formulations or sunscreens. For example, if you use sunscreen during the day, something like NIOD Survival 20 or 30 could keep you matte for an extended period. So, look for gel formulations with dimethicone. Perhaps a moisturizer like Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel would be ideal. Which one have you tried in the past? 🤔

      @@yallayahajja You can keep the routine really basic. Like cleanser, something hydrating such as an essence, serum, or light moisturizer, and SPF during the daytime if you have sun exposure.
      However, as for your eye bags, you may have a chance with The Ordinary Caffeine Solution or their Multi-Peptide Eye Serum. Use either one of them after cleansing. However, depending on your eye bags, it's best to see a dermatologist or so to treat it more effectively. 😊
