- I paint my first large-scale abstract painting in acrylic on canvas. Seeking inspiration from Takesada Matsutani of the Gutai group out of Osaka, Japan, the results of my painting end up leaning more towards a Gerhard Richter style.

Stunning
Lovely piece and on your first try. It proves that the artist combines forethought and choices with being open to the accidents and responding to the process of creating the work. Well done. You’ve inspired me. Thank you.
Brendan Miggins Thank you very much!
Really beautiful. Gorgeous vibrancy.
Lol Jesse, so much goes on in you. One unique man
Proud to know you
naemasufi Thanks Naema! It takes One to know One :)
Precioso tio...gracias
Very impressive that - especially like your end summary of the East v West thing. I really get that dichotomy.
The first scrape of the red and I'm already in love.
Richard Foo Me too :)
Actually, I'd prefer the first 2 scrapes like you intended. You inspired me to do something similar last evening, albeit at a smaller scale. Much smaller.
first scrape was sweet. i scrape too and its hard to stop and not want to improve or discover more.
Yes
Beautiful!
Thanks so much!
I love it!! and I love the huge squeege you're using!
Elpiz Thank you!
Good job buddy!!
Very beautiful! Will try this too for a smaller canvas. Greetings from Amsterdam 🌷
Bravo
liked it
Till the time you were making it .. I wasn't sure what was going on, with you waiting on the painting. But thanks for the last few minutes where you explained what you were trying to achieve. It makes much more sense and the painting turned out well. 👍
Keeny Newton Thank you
WOW!!! Beautiful! I do similar looking abstracts but not anywhere near as big as your stuff! I love it.
Thank you!
2:31PERFECT
I like
you got it,the first stroke you made was perfect!!!......you just need to surrender,a thing a lot of artists find hard to do ,
How do you call this tool? I am trouble finding a name for it
Where do i get one of those squeegee’s/scrapers at? Plz let me know
Where can i buy That large canvas for painting
Where can I get one of those scrapers from
I've been searching for a large drag brush like this could you share where you found it please. beautiful work!!
kim clarke Thanks! It’s a rubber screen printing squeegee. If you search that you should find it. They come in various sizes. The most popular brand is Speedball.
Hi it's beautiful 🔥 where did u get the big wooden brush ?
Matsutani is the man. Dig your work too. I used to do commercial screen- printing. Largest screens in the world. It was challenging. The squeegee is much less difficult without the screen. Try it. Do some Rauchenburg type stuff. 👍
Thanks. Do you know where I can get large screens? I looked online and could only find annoyingly small ones. I'm in Europe too which makes it even harder.
Jesse Waugh. I'm sorry I don't. We used to make them in-house. It's an artform unto itself. My suggestion, order a roll and stretch pretty much like canvas. As far as shooting an image though, without the proper equipment you'll have to play jazz so to speak.
Thanks yeah I also wondered about how they burn such large screens. Warhol must have had some serious equipment or outsourced some of the steps. czcams.com/video/CzrPmfaYcMM/video.html
Jesse Waugh. He had the money to do that. Us poor people have to transfer and block out by hand. Or you can use diazo in sunlight but it takes a while and of course good conditions.
Mettez vous du gesso sur le drap ou la toile ? Merci beaucoup
Where did you get that big old scraper? That thing is awesome!
Coty Schwabe At a screen printing shop.
@@jessewaughcom Dope. All the best!
Nice work
Thanks!
How did you like working on the floor and then having to walk in the work as you finished it? This was fun to watch. I did a smaller piece similar to this last year.
So beautiful. I tried this today. Doesn’t look like yours...not even close.
Diana Roe Thank you!
"Bonita pintura decorativa"
Gracias por el comentario sofisticado.
Nice , were do u get your canvas at ?
I get them from Barna Art in Barcelona - excellent custom canvases!!
Hello is it just acrylic? Or you mix it with something? What a beautiful piece
Where did you get your squeege?
I got it at Vostok screen printing supply store in Barcelona. But it's exactly the same as a Speedball squeegee, which I'm sure can be ordered online. The one I'm using is 1 meter long.
Liked it better when it was not finished, is important to know when to stop
What happened to all those red footprints around the black border?
Aight imma get my wiper
4:33 i see a skull
How long u keep it before it get dried?
lay chhunyi It’s acrylic so it dries very quickly. I waited a few days for the gobs of paint to dry thoroughly.
@@jessewaughcom thank you and I just want to say I really love your work
What paint did you use for the base? (black)
Christian Strich I used GOLDEN Acrylic Neutral Gray N2.
Thanks, beautiful piece!
Starting from 6:12 to 6:20 you can see, near the bottom right hand corner, the face of a child looking skyward. Then again that could be just me.
Extra frend
"Better' ? its all relative
My 9-year-old daughter can do that too :-)
Make her do ..and put a video ...we will like it and encourage her ..
Ok I will tel her! :-))))
Not criticizing but I'm at odds with foot prints and tile impressions...
I think you did succeed in the first stroke, but you weren't content with it. That may be the only difference. Being content I think.
детское творчество
I get it, by no means am I coming at you disrespectfully because all art helps the world of people who marvel over it. I just always feel just a little disrespected when I see this large scale of a canvas and it looks like a 3 yr old played over it. I do respect that that is your emotions that you have portrayed on canvas and that is the only reason I respect it.
Nicholas Bouyer this makes no sense
Have you ever stared at a cloud formation, ice on a window, or a rain puddle? Have you ever wanted to recreate that magic?
I bet lots of folks said the same thing when they saw Jackson Pollock dripping paint on the floor for the first time
Not painting, sorry.
Vito Not a comment, sorry.
