This video needs to clarify that they are talking about Optane Memory, which is a caching accelerator for specific generations of consumer CPUs. This was designed to accelerate HDD after you either pin applications to the Optane or it learns what your most frequently accessed files are. As a cache, it is still limited by its two lanes of PCIe so not to be intended to cache SSDs. Optane SSDs are quite different. Optane also comes in Optane Persistant Memory (PMem) as a RAM displacement in servers. The product they review here is a consumer product only and is not used in servers, the statement in the video about servers and workstations was very unclear about that. Optane SSDs have both consumer (900/905) models and datacenter models (P4800x). You can use them to cache HDD arrays but that is not what your review is covering. Optane SSDs have a much higher write capacity (measured in disk writes per day) than NAND and they achieve their IOPS spec at a much lower queue depth (typically 12-16) than NAND (Typically at a queue depth above 30). Optane can hit 110k IOPs at a queue depth of 1 where NAND may hit 10k IOPS at the same queue. Most consumer computers will never reach the queue depth required to achieve max IOPS in anything other than a benchmark. Unless your software is latency sensitive or is brutal on the drive writes, you will most likely not see an improvement with Optane SSDs, however if you do a lot of caching/database work, you stand a better chance of seeing improvements in speed. Games are a bad use case as many multiplayer games have artificial delays in the load times to allow for fairer gameplay. To say Optane itself is obsolete is a rather uninformed opinion. With Optane you are able to write in place, removing garbage collection, trim and write factor amplification making them very predictable in their performance. before you ask, yes, i work for Intel and specialize in Optane.

Send that LinkedIn lmao. Honestly Optane is cool stuff but for your everyday PC gamer it’s not beneficial like you said. Kind of diminishing returns in my opinion. Did some research and some games will load a bit quicker but the difference between 7 seconds and 10 seconds is so minimal that I couldn’t justify it.
Plus I’m a Ryzen man myself. Kind of funny how I can’t justify Optane but the minute PCIe Gen 4 SSD’s were available I hopped on it lol

I wonder if the increased endurance means people will use Optane for Chia farming 🤔

I am not expert, just trying to learn.
I need lot of storage, I have first option of buying 1tb nvme gen3 or second option is 16gb Optane with 4tb HDD. Will there be any real life difference. Which option to choose ??
Am not gamer or creator. PC is for browsing and excel.
      Thanks.

@@jennacavier6165 if you need fast response then nvme ssd and if you need more space then undoubtedly go for hdd but in today's scenario i think sdd is more preferable even for non gamers causeo f it's speed, and as you need more storage the 4tb hdd is also a great choice.
      Hope it help.

@@jennacavier6165 Nvme 100%. HDDs are obsolote and horrible and I cannot stress how much better SSDs are. Windows feels so sluggish on a HDD trust me your life will be way better with an SSD.

I bought a game rig with a 1070 on clearance when the 2000 and 1600 series came out, and they were actually giving you the Optane for free if you bought an HDD. I guess they could see the take over coming. Thinking about replacing with an m2 now.

The premise of this video is misinformed. Optane was caching HDD's years ago. Now it accelerates traditional SSDs or displaces them entirely when people want even faster storage.

They seem to be talking about Optane memory which is not intended to cache SSDs. But i agree, the video does misinform on the difference between Optane Memory (the caching product for consumer PCs) and Optane SSDs

So glad for this video, building my Gaming PC with M.2 only SSD NVME's in 2023 as these SSD's are so much cheaper. I was wondering what Optane was and if it would help my new PC plan. This Video clarified. Since I am not going to buy any of the old HDD, no need of Optane. Now I need to figure out what I want to do with the unusual extra m.2 Gen 3x2 slot (normally its gen3x4)

Optane could eventually trickle down to gamers, as of right now software, even down to the OS level just isn't designed to support the level of speed optane offers.

the optane 905p is a relic from 3-4 years ago. sure it looks cool, but nowdays you get much higher read/write speeds and 10x lower price with a 2TB samsung 980 pro.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5570 Laptop that has 12 GB RAM and 917 GB HDD. It was very slow, almost unusable. It used to take forever to start or to open any file or application, app, program, etc. ... I added 32 GB of Optane memory and practically fix it. Now is very fast to start or to open any file, or application, etc. . The Optane memory save this Laptop from being an unusable computer to a useful computer. I will be upgrading this Laptop to 32 GB of RAM with Crucial memories. So, it will have 32 GB Optane memory and 32 GB RAM. (The processor is Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s))
Probably i will upgrade the HDD, but not sure if necessary. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

512 gb ssd + 32gb optane memory in i3 10th generation would beat the i3 11th generation in overall performance because i have a confusion between them bcoz 11th generation is little bit costlier. Could you please help me out.

The fact that this thing require an obnoxious amount of work to install and set it up is the only reason why I cancelled my plan to buy them . Why tf would Intel even bother advertising them in the “Hyper M.2” motherboard if they’re not even going to help the consumers use them

Interesting topic, but I don't really like that video. It feels like there was not much effort put into it. As you can see in the comments the information was not researched well enough. But much worse is the stupid stock footage you used! I understand that it is difficult to find footage for a topic like this, but I fell handled like a child to see the 7th person showing me just weird facial expressions or the 4th clip of a clock running ...
Maybe you can put jut a bit more effort into it. Thanks :)
