  • Today we're looking at the similarities and differences between the Sizzix Big Shot Plus and also the original Sizzix Big Shot die-cutting machine.
    These two Sizzix machines are reliable and great quality, especially if you're on the fence about which to get. Both are fantastic options!
    Both the Big Shot and Big Shot Plus are great quality die cutting machines. They're both an investment as well. However, if you have room for it, we'd recommend the Plus. The platform is bigger, you’re not limited to die or embossing folder size since it works with larger dies. But again, it depends on if you have the room for it in your craft room. It's heavy and bulky and moving it around a lot could be quite tiresome, so keep that in mind as well!
    The Sizzix Big Shot Plus
    Similarities between the Big Shot and Big Shot Plus:
    -Both die-cut and emboss with wafer thin or steel rule dies.
    -Cuts various materials with the right die (paper, leather, felt, fabric, fun foam, etc.)
    -Platforms for die-cutting and embossing included
    -Compatible with most dies and embossing folders on the market.
    -Both hand cranked
    -Both white and grey in colour.
    Differences between the Big Shot and Big Shot Plus:
    Big Shot Plus:
    -9 in wide platform area
    -Platform fits A4 sized card or 8.5x11in.
    -Slightly more cutting pressure due to larger size rollers
    -Larger platforms and adapters for embossing and die cutting larger dies and embossing folders.
    -Can use bigger dies and embossing folders on the market.
    Big Shot:
    -6 in wide platform area (card stock, embossing folders, and dies all have to be less than 6 inches wide to fit in machine)
    -Since Big Shot is the more popular of the Sizzix machines there are more accessories that fit it like the magnetic platform or the accessory Tool Caddy .
    -Includes Multipurpose platform

    I have the Big Shot Plus and love it. It is perfect for the large album and box dies, but still is great for the smaller dies.

    I bought a Big Shot last year from Craftstash and I've used it constantly! But I have nesting dies that won't fit, and I now use larger card bases, so my Big Shot Plus arrived today...so exciting. I have room for both, but main one is the Big Shot, because I love the caddy so much🤣. Interesting to see the thinnest dies need less of a sandwich on the Plus, thank you for demo!

    Thank you. Your video is very helpful. I’ve just bought the big shot plus and I’m trying to roll everything through with the platform, die cutting folders and one of the adaptors without using any embossing folds or dies just to make sure it’s all ok without damaging the kit but nothings happening when I turn the handle. The sandwich isn’t rolling thriugh at all. The handle is tight. Does this mean there is something wrong with this machine?

    Thank you for this very helpful video 👍 I wonder if you could please tell me. In the big shot plus do you need any extra’s like shim’s or anything to make up the pressure of the cutting or is it just the
    Multi-Platform? I’m having problems with adjusting the pressure on mine the Xcut Xpress

    If you sew the Big Shot Plus is really nice to have. Sizzix sells an adapter so you can use Accuquilt dies. The regular Bigshot is too small. I LOVE my Big Shot Plus and I don’t have room on my craft table. I made room for it though and now it has a dedicated table all for my die cutting.

    Thankyou for explaining I needed to know if the big shot plus would work with the exacdt die u r demonstrating Christina suggested that I drew around the die then cut it out that's fine with some people but I cut like a dogs hind leg LOL so the big shot plus it is Thanks again xxx

      @CraftStashcoukTV  Před 5 lety

      Hi! No problem! I'm so glad I could help.. She suggests drawing around the die if you have a 6 inch wide die-cutting machine since her box die is bigger than that.. but if you have the Big Shot Plus, then you're okay and no need for any dog's hind leg cut outs lol

    Thanks for sharing wonderful aspects of both the machines...!! I'm new to paper crafting and wanted to know about the life of big shot cutting pads... I mean for how long they last??...as this machine is not available in my country and I have to import it,if it's spare parts are expensive then it would not be feasible for me to maintain this machine.

    • @CraftStashcoukTV
      @CraftStashcoukTV  Před 5 lety +3

      Hi! Thanks for your comment:) The cutting pads last a very long time. I've been using my Big Shot almost every day for a year since I started working at Craftstash and I still haven't changed the cutting pads.. You just have to make sure you rotate and flip them so that they don't warp in one direction. Also about your other question, the magnetic precision plate is available for purchase but it's sold separately, but it's not recommended for use with the Big Shot Plus because the pressure is too great and it would ruin your wafer thin dies quickly.. Hope that helps:)

      @CraftStashcoukTV  Před 5 lety

      Hi! The plus machine does cut aluminum, mat board, vinyl, leather, fabric etc. To guarantee you cut thicker materials you'll need to use steel rule dies like Bigz. Hope that helps!

    Great video! I 100% believed (sometimes I don't believe the demonstrator, sadly). I just purchased the "PLUS" and NO, I don't have room for either in my craft space. LOL I found, though that the "PLUS" was only $10 more than the Big shot on most sites I visited. I figured "Take a chance!". I bought it from this site also!, last night. I have a die cutting/embossing machine that also recently purchased. Bummer, because it is a well known brand ( I don't think I'm allowed to mention the name), but I found it is not compatible with ANY (I guess I should should say to be fair, any of the embossing folders I purchased from other brand names. BIG SHOT IS, happily! I was naive and bought, blindly, with the hype of a new machine that was not too expensive for me. Hopefully, I made a better decision this time.
    I don't recall it mentioning an ADAPTER? I even typed in accessories. I'd like to thank MOLLY PITTS, who commented "SIZZIX" sells adapters! (I don't sew), but she may have led me in the right direction for added accessories etc.

      Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment:) I'm sorry that one you bought isn't compatible with any of your embossing folders. I think I may know which one you're referring to. If you have any questions about Sizzix accessories, please let me know:) Happy to help! -Janette

      Thanks for your comments. I would love to know what site you were able to score a Big Shot PLUS for only $10 more than the Big Shot. I've been doing a lot of surfing and the difference in the price $79 to $117 roughly is a biggy. Thank you!

    The machine might be good but your customer service is shocking. You made me wait over 3 weeks for my order with no update and when I chased it at 45p per minute you say its been lost. You don't apologies or say you will redeliver and say that its likely that some of the items are out of stock. I have my tracking number for Hermes and they say its awaiting despatch from you. Won't be buying from them again.
