- Hey Guys,
I am so excited to be playing around with my new Tim Holtz Sizzix SideKick! This was a long time coming. I have been wanting one for a while now. This is perfect to keep on my desk and use for smaller dies and embossing folders. It came with a few goodies that we will try out today along with new dies I’ve collected from Temu and Craftelier.
If you have any tips and tricks for this machine, all are welcome. Like I stated in this video, this is NOT a tutorial….it’s more of a HELP ME type of video. I’m still new to this and would love to hear from those who have one or similar.
Thanks for requesting this SIDEKICK FRIDAY video. You are all the best people ever!
I’ll link some of the items down below in case you are interested in any of the supplies I used in today’s video.

I’m getting pulled to the die cut world!!! lol I jumped when that handle jumped back and popped you!! Ouch!! 😂😂
I’ve seen creators use the negatives as stencils! Ohh hmm that gives me thoughts and ideas!!!😂
Dangerous!! 😂😂😂 tfs ❤❤
Hi Terri! I didn’t think much of the die cutting machine either, but now I’m definitely hooked. Can’t get enough.
Yup it popped me good. I got a little bruise on my knuckle. Lol
Thanks so much for watching Terri
I subscribed because I loved this video so much. I learn a lot from people when they walk us through stuff because I learn from you/ their mistakes. Thank you, I laughed with you. You remind of myself.❤
Hi Marie, welcome to my channel. I’m so happy that you enjoyed this video. I really like trying out my new tools on video because I learn from everyone in the comments. It’s really a lot of fun. Thanks so much for watching and hope you continue to enjoy my content :) Maggie
This video was fun. The little machine works really well. The long plates will make a huge difference!
Hi Jean! I just got the new extended plates. Can’t wait to give it a try with those. Thanks so much for watching
You have probably discovered this by now but you have to leave some room at the ends of the pads so they feed through. Tim has talked about this. I’ve never played with the accessories so I enjoyed the video.
HI Martha! I thought I broke my Sidekick! Lol
I appreciate the tip. Now I know even with longer dies I can still push them though they just might get cut off at the end. Thanks so much for watching
Love your tutorial ❤️. I'am in Western Australia 🇦🇺. Side kick is my travel buddy comes with me every where as homeless great little machine and sizzix fold away I travel with that machine to as folds away. Both sizziz die cutting machines great to travel with. My travelling buddies. ♥️..😊
I have the Spellbinders Prisma small cutting machine that sits on my desk at all times. I wouldn't be without it. Fun video.
Thanks so much for watching! I know I’ll get good use out of my Sidekick too.
My Sidekick came today! I have a lot of small dies, so his will be handy to have. Great video!
Hi Leslie! Yay I’m so happy you received yours. Now we can craft together the next time I take it out. Thanks so much for watching
I love my sidekick. I keep it next to me on my desk and I find that I reach for it often. My bigger machine sits behind my laptop, so it's slightly inconvenient to move everything out of the way to use it, but the Sidekick is a different story. Fantastic for small tags (as per your video today); sentiments, numbers and a hundred other assorted small dies. You'll love it, I'm sure. I have the extended plates too, and I use them more often than not.
Hi Heather! I am loving my Sidekick. It’s been so much fun to work with. I finally got my extended plates so it’s easier to cut longer dies. Thanks so much for watching
Thanks for the "play", I've had this gadget for about 18 months now. You've given me hope.
Hi Teri! I’m glad this video was useful. Hopefully you’ll get some good use out of your machine too. Thanks so much for watching
Thank you for showing this demo of the sidekick, it’s so cute !! i’ve been trying to decide which di cut machine to buy!! this might be a good place to start!! love the little flowers💜
Hi Jackie! I’m so happy this video was helpful. I had so much fun trying it out. It’s small enough to keep it on the shelf above my desk. An easy reach. Thanks so much for watching
You'll love it! Can't recommend this little machine highly enough.
I love my sidekick. Its perfect for diecutting all the smaller embellishments we may have.
I’m really starting to love mine too. Thanks so much for watching Liset!
Just a tip... with any dies, you can't put the die up to the front edge of the cutting plates, because then there's no "edge" to help feed the plates through the cutting machine (no matter which machine)
Thanks for the tip Rose. I was actually scared I broke my little machine. Learned my lesson.
I just caufed my lungs out trying to stop you from using the right cutting pad, then realized you made this video 5 months ago 😅. Great video, great to see what's really in the box, and now I don't think the black one looked that bad either, and the accessories were great. I try to decide whether or not to buy. but I think it's a definite buy, it's all about the color now. ❤ Thanks for the video.
Glad you liked this video Caroline. Thanks so much for watching
#Replay the plates are beveled so the sidekick grabs it better to go through the machine. Therefore, make sure the beveled side is facing up, so it can grip easily slide through the machine.
Thanks for the tip Debby
I take all my small scraps of paper and cut out my number and alpha dies with my little die machine. Then I put them in a plastic container for using later.
Hi Lashauna! That’s a fantastic idea. I LOVE using numbers and letters on everything so I’ll definitely be using that tip! Thanks so much for watching
I have the Red One.❤
Thanks for watching Mimi
Hi friend!! This was fun! For the flowers you can you a quilling tool to curl the flowers, works great! The very first flower you cut out it's meant to be cut multiple times to layer it and then put the other pieces on top😊
Hi My Friend! Omg…I have a quilling tool. Duh! I totally should’ve pulled it out. Couldn’t think of it at the time. Oh, now I’ll have to try the layering to see how fluffy the flowers come out. Thanks Friend once again for everything! I’m still having a lot of fun playing with all my goodies you sent me. :)
I love my Sidekick it makes easy work of small die’s especially when I am batch making cards
So convenient! Thanks so much for watching Pauline
Fun new tool! .. & the purple flower is so pretty 💜
Thanks Jm!!
I think this would be a fun thing for my 9 year old granddaughter for xmas.
This would be a great gift for her Suzy!! Thanks so much for always watching.
Love my sidekick. Have it handy when I know I will be using small dies
Hi Abby! I love mine too. I have it at arms reach to it’s great for small projects. Thanks so much for watching
Great video. Love the flowers, so pretty.
Hi Pam! I’m so happy you enjoyed this video. I had a lot of fun with my little machine!
love it! hopefully you continue doing more
As I get more smaller dies, I will definitely bring it out again to do more projects. Thanks so much for watching
Love your tutorial on sizzix side kick. I love my tim holtz sizzix side kick easy to travel with and yes I purchased the extended long cutting pads to do more die cutting. Oh yes dies must have a gap as the dies won't go through. I learned that. And watch out for the Handel can hurt you to. Outch yes happend to me too. ❤😊
Thanks for watching Stephanie
Great video!!
Thanks so much for watching
Hi Maggie, thank you so much for this video. Totally enjoyed it. I've spent so much money on etsy on floral and leaves cut out. Also i still watch HSN crafting show. So last year i signed up for their crafters companion auto ship. It came with wonderful selections every month. Sadly i just received my order. It was great but the shipment was full of large dies i can't use.😢 So my little machine is doomed to stay in it's box for eternity. 😂😂😂. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks again for your time. ❤
Hi Phyllis! I’m glad you enjoyed this video. I’ll have to look up the HSN show and see when they do the crafting show. I would like to see that. I’m sorry your recent order wasn’t of any use to you. Hopefully the next one will be another great one. Thanks so much for watching
Hi there Maggie! I have been binge-watching your videos since discovering your YT channel!! lol I love your creativity...and appreciate you sharing your talent with the YT world. Your 'hauls' are having an impact on my bank account!! lol
Just another tip....in case you haven't already been told this. It helps to tilt your dies on a slight angle....if you have room to do it. It will go through your die cut machine much smoother....and possibly give you a better 'first time' cut. That elaborate envelope die that you used recently (...it was in one of your hauls, I think?) I will sometimes use another piece of printer paper as a shim just to give a bit more pressure on the die. I've had to run some of these intricate dies thru my machine numerous times in order to get a decent cut. Sometimes I'll even rotate the die so the pressure rollers hit a different spot each time it goes through the machine. Does that make sense? lol In my head it does! lol
Thanks again for all your wonderful videos!!!
🤗
Hi Sharon! Thanks for the binging. That is so cool! My hauls seem to be having the same impact on a few wallets. But that is so cool on my end because that means I’m sharing things that everyone likes enough to get them. :)
Thanks so much for the tips. I was able to buy a shim for the die cut machine. Helps out a lot. Everything totally makes sense. You’re so nice for sharing. Thanks for watching Sharon
The new dies are great! With the ruler die, the reason it wouldn’t take it is bc the die was too close to the edge of the plate on the end you were feeding into the Sidekick. You can cut longer things, you just have to run it through more than once, with the die away from the edge of the plate (preferably at an angle and not perpendicular). Like all of his products, Tim has a video about the Sidekick, too.
Hi Katie! Thanks so much for the tip. I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t feeding through. I appreciate you letting me know. Thanks for watching
If you have trouble with the Sidekick popping off, try moistening it on the bottom slightly. I have a glass mat so mine wlmost never moves. Also, make sure the bottom is clean. Even the smallest paper scrap can interfere with the suction. Looks like you've discovered the fun of having this little workhorse! I'm on # 3. I wore out my first two!
Thanks so much for the tip. I’m thinking now that it was because my mat is permanently dirty Lol! I definitely need a new mat. I might have to take out my smaller glass mat when I want to use it. I forgot I had it. Thanks for reminding me. :) Maggie
It does take the long die. You had to move it away from the edge. All you need to do is slide it down from the edge.
Thanks for watching
You can use a dry embossing tool to press the flower into your palm to curve just right. Use the ball end of the tool.
Hi Cora! Thanks a great idea. I think I might have one of those tools in my stash. I’ll have to look. Thanks so much for the tip
my sidekick I've had it for years and used it to death. Something plastic broke inside but another is on the way. Yes, please get the extender plates. Mine sits on my desk All the time! Have fun playing and yes, the positive/negative work great on other works. Have fun it is addictive! Yes, watch for the kick back at times on the handle!!! Please remember to turn your plates so they don't warp, and turn your dies crocked at times so pressure bar? doesn't warp also.
Hi Joan! Thanks so much for all the tips! Keep them coming, I need all the help I can get. That kick back on the handle left me a little bruise on my knuckle. Lol
Thanks so much for watching
Great video! You could also use some of the "negative cutouts" in makes. 🙂
Hi Rose! I’m definitely keeping the negatives. That will be fun to use. Thanks so much for watching
Oh and where does one get the papers from. Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me. Thank you again and also I just signed up to your channel. Loved your video.
Thanks for subscribing Francine. No worries, we’re all here to help. I usually get my papers from my local craft shops. It’s easier to me that way I can see and feel the paper before purchasing. Thanks again for watching
This was so much fun, thank you! By the way, I think you could have done the ruler, but the bottom plate was upside down! If you look at the video again, you turned the plate the other way.
Thanks Patty! I’ll have to try it again but this time I bought the extender pads hoping that will help
OK, Maggie, you sucked me in! I was about to leave to take my walk, but I saw your video, so an hour later…😂 Anyway, it was fun and worth it!😊 The Craftelier dies seem to cut quite well. Seems like you could use some of the negatives as stencils.
Hey Girl!! I’m so glad you put your walk on pause for me! Lol…So happy it was worth your time. I really like the Craftelier dies. They are very nice and sturdy. The colors are just a plus. So pretty! I will definitely keep the negatives to use as stencils. Great idea!
I’ve had 2 of these because I really like it, but on both I’ve had a problem with a piece inside coming out and then it doesn’t work very well. I haven’t done anything unusual to it to make it break. The first one lasted about 2 years, the second less than a year.
Hi Sue! Oh no, I hope I don’t have any problems with mine. I’ll have to try to be extra careful with it. Thanks so much for the tip
I take my when traveling.
It’s the perfect size for traveling. Great idea!
Glad I found your channel! I wanna get a sidekick. What kind of glue do you use to glue the pieces together?
Hi! I’m glad you found me too. :)
The glue I use is the Art Glitter Glue. Love it! Here’s a link in case your interested:

Hello , where can i find the fence die set?
Can you tell me the name of the pink office supply paper die set and thanks for your fun video yes I ordered some stuff😊😅😂😮
HI Linda! Yes, It’s in spanish called Escritorio. It means Desk. I have it linked in the description of the video. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching
I’m ordering one at the end of February. I would like to know if there are any Canadians here that could tell me where I can get dyed for this machine please. Also the extension plates. And I love anything folks. Thank you.
Hi Francine, you are going to love playing with yours when you receive it. I get a lot of my supplies from either Amazon or Temu. Just make sure it’s the right size to fit. I hope that helps
@SunsetCrafts Do the Temu dies cut well? I have the Vevor 6" die and emboss machine. I've heard yays and nays. Also, i cut up my bad cricut mats to save those cutting bases from getting damaged. Thanks in advance.
I just got one for Christmas but I don’t know how to use it. I can’t get the plates correct and get it rolled in the machine.
I’m no expert. You can read the comments in this video. I’ve had a lot of advice given to me. Very helpful. Thanks for watching and good luck with your machine.
Can I use any thinlits dies with sidekick?
Hi SJ. Yes! I use them all the time just as long as they are less than 3 inches wide. Thanks so much for watching
Please can you tell me where you buy your Paper/Card stock from? Thanks x
Hi Jenny! I buy my card stock paper from literally everywhere. Let’s see..the solid colored card stock I bought at Hobby Lobby. The black I think it was at Walmart and the gold was from Michaels. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching
I passed on my sidekick years ago to a new crafter, and really would like to have another. The only ones I have found recently is on ebay. They want so much for them, and they do not have any accessories. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi Teri, I checked on Amazon and they currently have one on sale for $40. It's the same package as mine. I hope this helps. Here's the link: a.co/d/25JI96V
