I wonder if some heat shrink on the rods would thicken them up enough to not slip out? On the other hand the Linear Blocking Tools blocks are probably better.

How about flipping the Black Diamond block around so that the top of rods are facing up while sanding a vertical surface?

I have sanded on the side of the car and they wiggle their way out without them facing down. You can deal with it for a while but becomes very annoying. You should not have to position your blocks in a certain way to make them work especially when using an x pattern vertically. If you want to spend 140 bucks and see for yourself go for it but you have seen the video, also the small block I use the most has started delaminating after the video so there is another problem, I'm hoping he comes up with a solution because the concept is great.

Thanks for the video. I just got back from SEMA and had a chance to see and feel the linear blocks. They are also offering a promo that makes their starter kit the sameborice as th black diamond blocks. Which would you recommend for someone doing a first time restoration/body work?

I believe you would get better results from Linear Blocks, since I bought Linears I havent touched the long Black Diamond block. I do use the small Diamond Block for curves, I will also say my small Diamond Block started de-laminating where the lexan meets the rubber after I made this video. I dont expect them to last more than one job. Pretty cool you had the opportunity to visit the SEMA show.

Black Diamond and Durablocks are junk if you want an absolute flat, show car surface

You're making parts of that car flat that were not originally shaped flat.

You are 100% wrong, the point of these blocks is that they are flexible so you can body work rounded panels. Post a video of the GTO you did body work on ro show everyone how it's done.

Not at all, if you can't backup what you type then your comment has zero value to anyone. Pretty simple

@@carnut7615 These cars have a bit of reverse crown at the bottom of the sail panel a bit to the rear. Looking at your blocking it appears you are removing that somewhat. The car is not flat there. It is more apparent if you look at vinyl top cars and see the OE molding shape. I don't need to post a video of my car to prove that, you can google pics and pay attention to other cars, or not. Your work looks nice and I'm sure the car will be beautiful in either case. But your long board is flattening that part.

You are correct they have a small dip right where I have filler in the sail panel even with the trunk filler panel, this one was extreme so I took some out, still there just not as extreme. If I had to do it again I would have cut all the rust out and patched in what was necessary in the originals because the Tiawan quarters have fought me the entire way. It was a northern Illinois car since new so I started out with a very rusty car that had already been body worked several times.
