9:40 : in France (I don't know if that's the same thing in other countries) but Thursday night is the spot on the week to get drunk for students. As you grow older, you tend to do this on Friday or week ends, telling "tonight's thursday night" is a way to tell that :
1 - he'll just put thing aside for later (that's the theme of the song)
2 - he's living in the past, keeping the habits of a student getting drunk a thursday even though he's too old for that and dropped college very early (said previously in the song)

This is clearly the second choice.
The concept of the film is to show young people who are stuck in adolescence (by the way, the mini series is called "blocking" for this reason).
So it's the students' Thursday because both of them were students.

That's why I love it and we see it more on the movie "comment c'est loin" cause at the end they sing this with smile. When orelsan was younger, almost everybody said to him he was a geek who did nothing but he follow his passion and is now one of the best French rapper

About the name of the band "Casseurs Flowters" :
It comes from the movie Home Alone, the "wet bandits", the 2 robber bad guys Harry and Marv, call themselves "Casseurs flotteurs" in the french version (lit. "breakers flooders" because they break everything and flood each house they hit).
There's also a wordplay with "flotteurs" and flow. In french "having flow" means being cool and stylish and/or being a good rapper - in this case it's the latter.
    And there you go 😁

They're in their 30's but still going to 20 yo people's party. But you're not totally wrong either because in the movie, when a girl asks to Orel if he often come to the bar they're in, he replies "Uh, not often. Thursdays, of course. And Saturday. And Sunday. Hi dude First, thanks for lighting up some of the best french rappers. Nearly all the songs you've reacted to never goes on radio, or TV. They are the 'new generation" of writers.
I'm 37 and I've started with the older generation of rappers, Wu-Tang, Snoop, DMX... And in France, there were a "battle" like East coast/West coast, but it was Paris/Marseille. Two types of rap. Paris was aggressive, rude lyrics and Marseille was more like poetry (in my opinion all right!).
All this 'cause you may like to hear I AM (Marseille) with a huuuuuuuuuuuge freestyle that became a track called "Demain c'est loin" or "L'école du Micro d'argent" , and NTM (

In the movie "Comment c'est loin" they both did a good rap on the radio some years ago, but ever since then never finished any of there song. Thus there producer put them an ultimatum to finish one of there song, or stop paying them. And that's the main scenario of the movie, actually telling the whole change of life they had to go through to eventually stop leaving everything unfinished. And that's why they say _if we have to finish one single thing, it's that fucking song_ . Indeed during the movie they sing a lot but never finish any of there song (which is a bit annoying when you know the whole song from there album but they stop singing it in the middle 😭) but "Inachevé".

the very name of the duo "casseurs flowteurs" is a tribute to Home Alone's French version of the Wet Bandits...
And here is my version of the translation of the lyrics. I did my best with rythm and rhyming, I hope it's not too subpar...
    Orelsan
I do not end my lines, no period as a stopper,
I don’t rule fate, ‘twill be done tomorrow or the day after,
Nothing is fine enough, never end anything,
If I had to draw you a picture, half the lines would be missing,
In tribute to all those opportunities wasted,
To our stories dead before they even started,
To hours wasted away, to buddies never called back,
To the doors I slammed and jobs I left before getting sacked,
To all that which I will leave
    Unfinished, unfinished, unfinished,
    Unfinished, unfinished, unfinished,
As a teen, my whole life was to play ball,
Of course, I blew it all for that one match I didn’t play at all,
Obviously I’ll do the same when it comes to music my way,
No need for a reason, wasn’t supposed to rap anyway,
To all those uncomfortable truths I couldn’t face away.
My girl busts my balls and I don’t have the balls to get away.
Waiting for her to dump me, folded arms waiting for what comes next,
fleeing forward, I’m waiting for Glory to send a text,
Unable to make choices, I’m like my action figures
    Useless, stay-at-home, arms akimbo, uneager.
    Unfinished.
    A prototype. A version 0.0,
Single answer to every question : « dunno ».
Like an admission of defeat in the playlist,
Feels like I quit in the middle of the setlist,
    I’ll only be half-sad if I half-ass I insist.
And in the image of all up to now I won’t even finish my bar…
    Gringe
Why does she wait for me when I while my nights playing away ?
Why do I cowardly avoid confronting her when I feel she’s slipping away ?
Can’t find an answer, Maybe I’m like Mario ?
The head up in the sky seeking a secret life hidden away ?
I lost the count of those (unfinished) relationships
A girl or an improved wank, I can’t tell the diff’
    So she angrily leaves anyway.
I tried to straighten my shit, to approach her with roses, romantically,
To save her from my nevroses, but like with school, I got tired quickly.
And I feel this mad void (unfinished, unfinished)
I never could finish shit save for what I tried to fail
Detached completely, I listen to myself spinning tales
The world might wait up for me even if only I believe it will
We should sit and talk, chill
Talk ? Let’s save that for tomorrow.
It’s Happy Hour and I’m off to see my bros.
Lousy Lifestyle, it’s a sad pill to swallow,
    Admitting truth I won’t, Conspiracies I spin,
I’ve been faking for so long, hoping Time won’t let me in,
Unable to see I have no haven left save for in peace restin’
Slow off the mark, I can’t go the distance,
I’m mere milliseconds away from letting slip my one chance,
My head fluffed with selfdoubt, mistaking doing nought with patience,
‘Tis not galantry if I say I’m gonna jump that fence
Mediocrity starts where all passions die.
Stupid, but I need that shit to feel my heart fly
I wagered so much on my weaknesses and failures,
I shoulda got a medal,my many absences earned me tenure.
Watchu talkin’ about ? Talkin’ about me ! About owning choices.
If you renounce, you got nothing, You don’t choose and I wanna be going places.
So round and round we talk of leaving while we’re sitting, stuck.
We don’t pull out but down, get used to this no-life fuck.
Starting now, I own up to my rising whims,
Not afraid of emptiness anymore, I’ll tackle that bottomless spiral pit.
So I stop stopping, I give up giving up.
If anything I’ll finish this song rapping up.
So this is the first bar of my new life
For the past 15 years they said « that too shall pass »
If you heed those who sleep dreams never come true.
Aging badly, coming fifty, want to die, this won’t do.
So I’ll spit my last flow till I’m parched,
And if that old habit of wanting to ruin it all comes back, make sure it’s latched.
If’n ever that cabin explodes, I’ll rap even if acid rains
I’ll bleed my wrists with broken glass to finish writing my pains,
If Death comes knocking to tell me « I have come for you »
Tell Her to come back later, to go away, to sing with us my rap is overdue,
Or better yet, let me own up, let me scream « shut up ! I ain’t over bitch !
I ain’t droppin’ that mic until that story’s finished...

    @
Breaking Bars Hello, I love this title. Thanks for this react.
If there's an English version of their movie "Comment c'est loin" you must have to watch it.
The story of two born procrastinators: "the film tells about their daily life in an average provincial town. The problem: impossible to finish a song. At the end of a stormy session with their producers, they're up against the wall: 24 hours, it's the time they dispose to release a song worthy of the name."
It's a really atypical and funny film, just like the rap of Orelsan and Gringe. I advise you to see it if it's available in an English subtitled version.
    Amitié from south France,

You should listen to Bigflo et Oli. They have a complicated relationship to Orelsan because he refused to sing with them, but it's actually become a joke in their songs (they don't seem to be real rivals). Some people can think they are too naive for rap, but they claim positivity and have an incredible writing.

This song takes part of a movie, directed by Orelsan himself, you should really watch ;) (If english subtitled are available of course)

For me "of course i left everything to play a single game where i didnt even play " is not correct. Orelsan says " of course i gave up because of one game where i didnt play" Like , he was on the bench, didnt play this single game , he was pissed so he gave up basketball. He was so immature and not persistent that he gave up his passion for a stupid reason. Here "pour" means "because of " not " to". In your sentence it feels like he pinned all his hopes in one game he didnt play so he failed but if you think about it it is not his fault... whereas the subject of the song is to explain that he quits to easily.
Forgive my English level, I hope you 'll understand what i'm trying to say :))
