- “The First Noel” is a traditional English Christmas carol arranged by Dr. Mack Wilberg, music director of The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.
Using animation of artistic stained-glass images, the text of the well-known carol is unveiled on sweeping scrolls. The opening lyrics tell the story of the angel’s appearance first to the shepherds “in fields as they lay, keeping their flocks.” The final lyrics end with the plea for all to “sing praises” to God for His creation and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ which redemption for “mankind has bought.”
Lyrics:
The first Noel the angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay:
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel!
Born is the King of Israel!
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel!
Born is the King of Israel!
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
That He this glorious earth hath wrought
And with his blood mankind has bought.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel!
Born is the King of Israel!
Contemporary English dictionaries define the word “noel” (also spelled “nowel” or “nowell”) as a cry of joy associated with the celebration of Christmas-the birth of the baby Jesus. This carol is thought to have been be a great favorite for Christmas Eve especially in the west of England when entire villages gathered for singing and celebrating.

The best arrangement of the first Noel I've ever heard in my life.
Agreed Sam!!!
Definitely! :>
Especial and delicate work
When it breaks into those complex harmonies at the beginning of the third verse, it takes my breath away!
One of my favorite songs about our beautiful Savior Jesus Christ.
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs arranged by Mack Wilberg. His arrangements are always such a joy to perform.
My all-time favorite arrangement of this song!
I like this a lot!
The stained glass illustration effect is so much more interedting than the usual view of the Choir in the hall of the Conference Center or Tabernacle.
So blessed by these voices, the musicians, and their ministry each and every year! And every year I introduce others to such an incredible gift!!!
Thank you so much!

Köszönöm úgy érzem mintha egy kicsit a Mennyben lellék.
My only criticism is that i would have had the instruments back off a bit.
People are not perfect. Only GOD. I've not seen anything more spectacular on my phone but this, 2023 years after Jesus' birth. Blessings to you, and have a very merry Christmas. Love.
