The Tabernacle Choir sings Mack Wilberg's arrangement of "His Voice as the Sound."
Episode 4386. October 6, 2013 - Hudba
This is a holy song. It just sounds like eternity
I have been searching for this! I woke with melody in my head, and I have been searching for weeks but did not know what it was called. Today I was led to it after attending the temple.
Soul-wrenching, beautiful, haunting melody and lyrics; truly uplifting, especially to me at this time a few weeks after my husband's passing.
Truly one of the most beautiful and uplifting pieces I've ever heard.
I agree Ian
It is amazing that the entire song is an alto section soli, and the choir can bring one to tears from the beauty.
"Many voices ask for our attention. There is a voice that says, ‘Prove that you are a good person.’ Another voice says, ‘You’d better be ashamed of yourself.’ There also is a voice that says, ‘Nobody really cares about you,’ and one that says, ‘Be sure to become successful, popular, and powerful.’ But underneath all these often very noisy voices is a still, small voice that says, ‘You are my Beloved, my favor rests on you.’ That’s the voice we need most of all to hear. To hear that voice, however, requires special effort; it requires solitude, silence, and a strong determination to listen. That’s what prayer is. It is listening to the voice that calls us ‘my Beloved.’" - Henri Nouwen
Thank you for sharing that important reminder. †
That is beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Wow dear sister beautiful words
Thank you so much! These words above were so properly expressed as an important reminder that we are not alone (never), despite of hard situations we daily faced , we have Him to hear us and speak to us !
Awesome so thankful you shared this! :)
So lovely to hear this song sung again in yesterday's general conference!
Ceramic Quill I agree, I was looking for this song as I was there live at the general conference
The recorder is so beautiful also, so lonely and melancholy the feeling....haunting.
The recorder is played by my cousin 😊
I can't get over the beauty of this song!
The choir sang this hymn at President Nelson's birthday celebration in the conference center. It was incredible hearing it in person.
This is the only example I have of a recorder sounding good
Just one word: Celestial
Breathtakingly beautiful
So rich tones and heavenly they sound.
Following Music and the Spoken Word on October 6th I began searching everywhere for this recording. Thank you for posting!
I love this hymn. Thank you. ❤️
It seems to transport me in time and place.
My friend Kevin baptised me in Scotland during his mission in 2013 and this was the first time I heard this song and it has stuck with me since ❤. He was murdered a year after returning home from his Mission and I think about him all the time 💔
😢 What a beautiful memory you both share though. 🤗🙏❤️
Sister do not be sad.. Kevin watches over you every time you listen to this beautiful song. You are not alone ❤
Wow. ❤ This piece is so beautiful and haunting. It stirs my soul!
This song makes me feel in peace
Just beautiful. I love this choir.
This is the song that made me realize the recorder is a legitimate instrument, not just a toy
That’s my cousin who played the recorder. There are many other woodwind instruments that he plays as well as the piano
Seriously awesome song. Amazing and haunting melody. Ranks right up there whit Come thou fount of every blessing in my book!
Love! Love! Love this song!! The guy playing the recorder is my cousin. He’s very musically talented ❤️💙
This is amazing. Thank you!
Just beautifull !!
So special and vibrant !!
I love this with the organ, slower, more pensive.
okay this is my new favorite hymn hands down.
Find His voice is the most important thing we have to do ! This Voice guides us and help us in the our daily battle ! Provide peace, direction and love !
This is so beautiful
Seven years performing with the choir and this song never ceased to bring tears to my eyes as we rehearsed and performed it. I was glad it came up frequently in the rotation. It remains one of my favorite songs to this day.
Was sitting in a branch presidency meeting this morning when the branch president mentioned this song. I came here to listen to it; oddly I must have heard it before because it sounds familiar to me. I could have heard it before months or years ago and have forgotten, but the sound is familiar nonetheless.
Best song I ever heard! I love this so much!
great song guys
Aaaahhh so nice.
I love this song! :-)
Your not on your own rhere my friend
Just Perfection!
5 Sterne für diese wundervolle und friedvolle Interpretation! Danke!!!
His voice, as the sound of the dulcimer sweet,
is heard through the shadows of death;
The cedars of Lebanon bow at His feet,
the air is perfumed with His breath.
His lips as the fountain of righteousness flow,
that waters the garden of grace,
From which their salvation the Gentiles shall know,
and bask in the smile of His face.
(instrumental interlude)
Love sits in his eyelids and scatters delight,
through all the bright regions on high.
Their faces the cherubim veil in his sight,
and tremble with fullness of joy.
He looks and ten thousands of angels rejoice,
and myriads wait for His word.
He speaks and eternity filled with His voice
Re-echoes the praise of the Lord.
(instrumental interlude)
He looks and ten thousands of angels rejoice,
and myriads wait for His word.
He speaks and eternity filled with His voice
Re-echoes the praise of the Lord.
Re-echoes the praise of the Lord.
Thank you, Dear Brother, for supplying the words of this beautiful hymn. I am full of emotion at the hearing of it...
…that waters the garden of grace…
The grace of Jesus Christ is His atoning sacrifice, by which we may repent of our sins and be washed clean in His blood. These lyrics remind me that a “garden of grace” would be a place I would want to return to daily to partake freely of the fruits of such a garden, that I might be enveloped in the eternal mercy of HIs grace. This one lyric brings me to tears every time I sing it. It is very powerful to me!
At the end the lyrics are, "Re-echoes the praise of her Lord."

I was just watching the last General Conference on DVD! Once again I felt like one of those Little Cheribum! Thank you for providing the full lyrics to this beautiful hymn. This video is so excellent & truly compels one’s mind to reflect on the Love of Christ . . .
Beyond words
Beautiful..........really!!!!!!!
a dearest hymn in my soul
The rendition of this where the women are in turquoise is already astonishingly beautiful, but this version, with the addition of the recorder and harp takes it to another level... I don't think I've ever heard anything so etheral and lovely. What makes it more poignant for me is that my lovely daughter [who used to play the recorder beautifully] has chosen to walk a different path and, as part of that, and altho I know she loves me, I am no longer to call her 'daughter.' I try not to dwell on that but there are times when the pain of it floods me. This music and song is both heartbreaking, cathartic, and comforting
Hermoso. Magnificent.
Gorgeous!
São anjos cantando!!!! É lindo!!! Sinto-me no Céu!!! Grata Meu Pai Celestial!!!
Who else came from 2018 general conference? (October)
Everyone.
maravilloso nuestro padre celestial
se escucha entre las sombras de la muerte;
(Interludio Instrumental)

Why is this not in the hymn book?
se escucha a través de las sombras de la muerte;
se oye a través de las sombras de la muerte;

Does anyone know what kind of instrument the woodwind soloist is using? It plays from 1:00 - 1:29 as well as throughout the piece. It sounds like a higher-quality recorder, but I'm unsure.
Does anyone know the name of the solo woodwind instrument in this arrangement?
