The best, most versatile voice of the 20th century and into the 21st. Only Whitney comes close.
But the key is genre. Linda has conquered every genre: Rock, C&W, operetta, Mexican; the list goes on. You’ve begun an amazing trip.

I'm kinda late to this party, but this is only 2/3 of the song. Apparently the TV show this is from made her leave out the third verse to make it shorter. Some of those great lyrics you cite are from that third verse.

As a little girl, Linda started out singing songs in Spanish that her father taught her. Later she went on to sing country songs. Then she moved on the Rock-N-Roll, where she became the greatest female Rock singer of the 60's, 70's and early 80's. She next did three albums of old standards from the 40's with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. After that she went back to record two albums of old Spanish songs that her father had taught her and named the first album "Canciones De Mi Padre"... Songs Of My Father. She went back to country to record two albums with her friends Dolly Pardon and Emmylou Harris titled "Trio". Lastly, she did a Broadway play called " Pirates Of Penzance". She not only recorded this music, but she was very successful getting many awards for all her recordings. Linda is one of a kind. She can excel in any type of music. Love You Linda.

They broke the mold when they made Linda. Since Linda could move easily from one genre to another, and early on was labeled a country singer, some of her recordings were called country when they weren't at all. This is one of them. This is my favorite Linda Ronstadt song, and it is not country. Below is some information on her that I posted on another site:
Linda Ronstadt broke the barriers for female artists with 5 platinum albums in a row in the 70's. Until Linda, no female had ever done that. She has sold over 100 million records, making her one of the best selling artist of all time. Linda was the female voice of her generation. And arguably, the greatest pop/country crossover voice of all time. Remarkably, with all her success and record sales, she only had one #1 hit: "You're No Good" Here's the link: czcams.com/video/e0vJNp5asqc/video.html She is, and always will be, my favorite female voice. And for me, her only competition is Angelina Jordan. It remains to be seen how Angelina will fare in her career (she's still a young girl), but if she can accomplish a small fraction of what Linda was able to do, she will have a great career. The sad part is that Linda's singing is over do to a progressive genetic degenerative disorder. A tremendous loss to the world that we can no longer hear her magical voice. A documentary on her life "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice", aired in December, 2019, on PBS. Here's the link to the trailer: czcams.com/video/JDtK3ob5wNs/video.html It's a first class presentation of the life of this superstar. Thanks for reacting to this singing phenom. Best wishes. Billy J

Dear Camille, I forgot someone, she died young at like 31. Minnie Riperton. This young lady had such a range. Listen to her song "loving you". I could have mentioned Streisand or Whitney Houston; but, I am a guy that grew up in the 70s. My view is perhaps weird. I grew up before autotuning. I grew up listening to people like Carly Simon and the others I mentioned. I was a stage manager and have seen an untold amount of singers, lost count a long time ago. I love technically great singers like Whitney Houston, great voice, great range. I prefer the ones who sell the moment rather than their range. The single best performance I ever saw in my life was a young lady, maybe 15, probably younger. She was in a contest and sang "That's the way I always heard it should be" by Carly Simon. I lit her with a single white light, I wanted people just to hear her story. That song had meaning to her. Her range was nothing special, he vocal control was spot on; but, she sang from real pain and it messed me up. Beyoncé is talented, Lady Gaga is talented, heck, I can prattle off dozens of talented female singers; but, how many can totally enrapture you in the story they are telling? This applies to male singers too. My favorite of all times is probably Frank Sinatra, no auto tuning needed. LOL.

The other hits they had were “Different Drum” (more upbeat and country-that one she’s actually doing the jilting lol ) and “Love Has No Pride” which makes “LLT” an anthem to good self esteem during breakups. LOL. So much power in Linda’s voice, and unafraid to go deep into painful dark places of heartbreak and desperation in her songs. Luckily, not so much in her personal life. LoooooovvvvvveeeHer!

Linda Ronstadt can sing Rock-and-Roll,, but she sings achingly beautiful sad love songs. Sadly, she now has Parkinson's disease and had to stop singing.

Who's the genius who heard voices like Ronstadt, Janis Joplin & Aretha Franklin, then thought... "I'm gonna invent auto-tune"?? I'm guessing the anti-Christ.

Ummmm…..sorry, this is not a “country” song as you stated. It has a steel guitar playing in background for a bit, but Long Long Time was considered a “pop ballad” in its day when I loved it so much…and still do.

I have said for years that Gladys Knight was the best singer from the 60's on. Linda is not second best. She is just way better than Barbra and Aretha.

I have very little idea what you're talking about, unless you only listen to country music on college radio or some Sirius type equivalent. Cuz what's been called 'country' for the last 35+ years on corporate radio is little more than crap pop/rock with electric guitars blaring, double-tracked voices, lyrics that are just cornball cliches of rural life stereotypes; not to mention the pandering to 'dixie' and nationalism.
