    I know this isnt my normal type of video. But every so often we stop and reflect on what we are doing. Ive been doing a little bit of that with my photography. More preciscely how I can better continue to support the small community built up around my photography. This channel was set up to pass on my knowledge, passion and skills by sharing my photography shoots with you. I would like to strenghten that community and create a more engaging community where we can all connect and pass on our stories. I have a few ideas. But please pass on yours below. If you have watchecd this video I thank you - I know its my normal content.

    Running a photo channel is a very difficult business.
    People often do not realize how much work and knowledge it is.

      Indeed it is I didn’t really mention all the additional knowledge that is required thanks for adding this

    Interesting and informative video this week Brian, I must say that for me it is time and I enjoy the photography to much to also do you tube. I have done it on a few occasions but could not put that full commitment to build the channel. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks John, glad to have your support. And yes it is a huge commitment to keep a channel going. I'm not planning on stopping any time soon. Two vids a month seems to be about right for me, just enoigh of a challenge but not so much that I can't keep up. But I know weekly is really needed to grow.

    I must admit to thinking about starting my own CZcams channel, it's something I've thought long and hard about, the real reason behind not doing so is this, the proliferation and quantity of photographers doing so, there is only a finite amount of samey video's, 3, 5 or 7 tip's video's, do this, do that video's that any one man can watch before your mind goes blank. This video for me has been a breath of fresh air, the real side of CZcams, thanks very much Brian,

      Dave your right. And that’s the challenge not doing all the tips type vids. I have a mantra for my talks lectures and videos - passing on knowledge, passion and skills. So I try and package up my thoughts and knowledge in the story of a live shoot. I like to share not just how but more importantly why. I hope my videos manage to do that. If you follow my vids and have ideas on how I can better serve the photography community please share them.
      One the problems is as long as people keep watching top tips and gear reviews CZcams will keep serving these videos and creators in a bid to grow will make more. It’s spiral that I try to stay clear off at the expense of CZcams growth. That why I’m so grateful for every sub, viewer and comment.

    Hi Brian, thank you for that video. It is something I have considered, however working full time and having limited spare time, for me it's not practical.. yet .. .. having followed you and your channel for about two years I'm so glad contributors like yourself are out there . Whether you have ten subscribers or ten thousand it's still very worthwhile, for me anyway. Thank you for everything you give us .

      Thank you for the great feedback. It is a huge commitment. Like you I also work full time and this pretty much consumes all of my spare time. Its great to know that its appreciated. And thanks for staying around for two years!

    I started my CZcams channel as more of an online photo/video album for us. I recently got to the 1k subscribers and now I feel more obligated to work harder and it does take the fun out of it. I have to just keep reminding myself why I started it in the first place. I enjoy that people enjoy the scenery and motorcycles rides. I am in no way a professional, just a person with an online photo album. I don’t want to lose the fun in making these videos due to the expectations of others. I can see how a full time CZcamsr can get burned out very quickly.

      Yes! You are at that point I mention in the video where it gets harder. You will find you are tempted to look at it more seriously. Good luck if you! Whatever happens keep having fun.

    Brian,
    Glad you posted this video.
    I’ve been meaning to get my channel going since way back and I first met you on the VRA challenge.
    I literally have hundreds of video ideas I’ve written down over the years but I never get the motivation to get out and film them.
    I don’t know if I set the bar too high or what but I bring all my gear out just like I did this weekend and I’m sitting inside my caravan watching CZcams instead of making CZcams.
    I know if I get over the initial start I will keep going but just can’t get the engine started.
    I enjoy watching your videos and catch every new one you upload.
    Glad you’re going to keep going on the journey!

      Starting is the easy part 😂 keeping the motivation is tough, and if you break the routine getting back in the saddle is just as hard as starting from scratch. You have to enjoy. I get a real buzz out of sharing what I do, I'd like find some other ways of doing that in the future, but CZcams seems to be the best way to build an audience. As always thanks for commenting, it just adds a little more to my motivation pot.

      Thanks for this video Brian, very well thought through, and quite provoking in its own way. It has further confirmed to me that I don’t want to go down that route, which is what I’ve said a number of times now. I enjoy watching your videos, probably guilty of not commenting as much as I could, but certainly with you being reasonably local to me it adds a lot to the experience. The other thing about a lot of vloggers is that they have to resort to the ‘7 things you must do’ type of content - you’ve managed to stay away from that which is commendable indeed. Keep up the good work!

    • @BrianNorthmorePhotography
      @BrianNorthmorePhotography  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@martingoff-jones2184 problem is Martin is that the 7 top……. The how to and gear reviews get the most views. That’s why a lot of photographers go down that route. It’s why I would like create a small but strong community around my channel. I’m investigating a few options but they may have to be subscription based which puts people off

    There are loads of landscape photography CZcams channels. They seem like a robotic conveyor belt of images that all look the same. I admire anyone who can maintain a CZcams channel and keep creating content, but it's all white noise now. Landscape photography is one area under threat from AI too. I really don't believe what Im seeing most of the time now.

    • @BrianNorthmorePhotography
      @BrianNorthmorePhotography  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I think the robotic conveyor belt expands far further than that. You see there is so much imagery around we are bombarded by it daily across social media. One of the problems is that the algorithms catch on to what you like and feed you more of the same - its a downward spiral of polarisation. And its not limited to photography - its everything. The challenge for landscape photographers on CZcams is keep sharing their work, their views and to get swayed by producing only what the algorithm wants - thats the conveyor belt. And unfortunately growth is on the conveyor belt as well. Im trying to stay true to what I’m passionate about, to tell my stories and hopefully inspire others and pass on a few skills. AI yes thats an issue I think about a lot, at least with CZcams you can see the photographer creating the work, and hopefully that’s adds some validity to it. I would like to think AI artists start to declare that it is AI generated - some do. I have even been thinking about wether the time to switch back to film has arrived. Landscape photography is so much more than the picture it’s about getting and having the experience. I hope I convey that in my Video’s. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
