- Big Mouth is a netflix show created by the one and only Nick Kroll. The man that ruins everything he's a part of, including this. It's a long, sprawling, gross, lame, and unnecessary show about middle school students going through puberty. Then sometimes it's about monkeys, or pillow babies, or shame wizards, or even just Nick Kroll stand up. I have no idea what this wants to be or why it exists. This is a review by Rendan of the show Big Mouth and why it's trash. Season 1 - 3 are all covered here but season 3 is mostly the topic.

I think Big mouth goes for shock value just for the sake of it and I don't think it deals with it's themes intelligently at all. It's really superficial and I think Kroll hopes that the sheer shock of seeing vagina people and a kid impregnating a pillow will make up for it. It's also just too off the wall to be relateable. Also Duke Ellington's ghost, wtf is up with that?
Any of those ghost characters are completely useless, and just for pop reference! They also have Ellington switch out with the monster thing and play that roll at points. Way too many inconsistencies.
Yeah, the ghosts are highly unnesesary, but damn, that Freddy Mercury is ON POINT.

I mean I have so many things that me and Sheldon have in common; I have asperger syndrome, I'm a nerd and I love trains but I don't find him relatable because he's a horrible, shit, unsympathetic human being who most people don't like.

I like the show too just I think the comedy is not relatable at all. I mean, It's about scientist nerds who love pop culture and say hilarious things every 10 seconds. Yeah you can have traits like the main characters, but that doesn't mean the whole show is relatable, that means that specific moment is relatable.
Big bang theory is a way better show, and I dont even like it very much lol.

I still remember a commercial for his show where the whole joke was a woman making funny noises when a person said she was pregnant. Why the hell is this guy seen as funny.

Nah even tumblr hates this shit. I speak as someone who is on it quite a bit compared to other social media platforms. Most people (including me) on there have expressed their discontent toward it so, THATS saying something. I’ve never even watched it and I just refuse to touch it because it’s ugly as all hell. I heard about the children in sexualized situations in this show and it heavily bothers me + deterred me further.
Thinly veiled political messaging, children involved in depravity and ugly flash art, it has to be a Netflix original.

I watch Big Mouth when I want to chill. I don't care about any of the characters, the jokes are not funny, and I've already adjusted to the artstyle, but ik the show can make someone uncomfortable so I get you.
It’s like the only show that you don’t really have to concentrate on to know what’s happening. You don’t have to know the characters or anything. You can just be watching it, get lost in your own thoughts and come to to your senses without missing anything. Which is why I like it

I tried to watch this show for the sole purpose of forming my own opinion on it. It was hard to stomach and 90% of the humor just made me feel disgusted and uncomfortable. I can't imagine ever wanting to rewatch it.
For some, maybe it's a coping mechanism. Maybe a victim who experienced overly sexual things in their childhood would feel less alone? But even that seems like a stretch, because this show just churned up horrible memories and feelings for me that I wasn't ready to revisit.
I also think that no child should ever see this shit, but I can totally imagine someone stupidly having it on in the background.

Ok but like Jay and Matthew had huge character development and we got to see their families and how their life is. That’s why they are my favorite characters, then for Nick, Andrew, Jessi and Missy I couldn’t care less. They are boring, annoying and just not good characters . Coach Steve very rarely is funny but normally he is very annoying. The hormone monsters are ok characters but sometimes they go too far.

I am a fan of dark/uncomfortable humour, South Park & American Dad are my favorite shows, Big Mouth is just lazy in every possible way. But mostly it's just boring. Nothing about it is appealing. Also everything i have seen Nick kroll In has further cemented my hate for his style of humour/acting. Just go watch the children's hospital eps with him and you will understand.

I personally like the show,but I do understand where you are coming from.The thing is you kind of have to go back to when you were in middle school, most middle schoolers are discovering stuff that goes on in the show.Yes some of the jokes make me uncomfortable or feel uncomfortable.You do have to have to like dirty jokes too and I will admit some of the jokes were gross and to fast.Also with the characters, you have to understand that the show is kind of trying to show their flaws.They are in middle school and are not perfect.With some of the other characters that are kind of just thrown in I do agree with you in that.A lot of the random ass characters in the show are boring and don’t even need to be in the show and don’t make a difference.Anyways I do agree with you on a lot of stuff you said in the video and I actually really liked it.Good job
I agree with you. I am in my 3rd year of secondary school which I guess is equivalent to first year of american high school. And I enjoyed the show. I do, for my age, have a really dirty mind so i did enjoy some of the humor. I definitely wasn’t the target audience but I watched it with my friends and we had a nice laugh about it- although a lot of it made us feel awkward and uncomfortable. Which I think is where the show had faults. In school I am an outsider, which made this show somewhat hit hard. And I think if they made the show a lot less sexual it would be great for more of my age group

I actually like the show as a guilty pleasure sort of thing. As someone who is around the same age as the characters the conversations they had aren’t to unrealistic, I mean we are less crude(not to much though) but discussing pansexuality and planed parenthood are things I have and would talk about at school. Maybe it’s because of the internet or something else but you would be surprised of how much more excepting my school climate has become in the past couple years. And on the basis of the show, I find it entertaining but it does go a little to far...

Totally agree with you. Another thing I don't understand is who is supposed to be able to see or interact with those different "monsters". They will be in some scenes but have what seems to be no influence on anything. Then there are other times that they flip between different kids. And then they are supposedly some type of employees of some type of beetlegeuse type of world, but they are actually offspring of an enormous alien that fucks volcanoes? Lot of inconsistencies in this show...

If the person who had recently killed someone who they despise of. Like in black lighting. I forgot the gangsters name. He killed someone. And a other guy or he was close to him and he died somehow. He dies and then gets brought back from the dead and starts seening the people he killed. And in a episode where he was getting a ride to a specific place he was talking to her the woman he killed and the driver can't see her because he thinks that the guy is on something.
So it's sort of like that. But no one dies just some monsters hanging around a specific character that's all.

I won’t defend the show, it is absolute shite. But I do watch it because it has this kind of structure that you can zone out and come back in during an episode and you haven’t really missed anything. It’s just something you can watch without having to really concentrate. Which I like

okay, I'm going to be honest, I am relatively young, though I'm not going to say how old for my own privacy and what not. But being young, I will admit, I suck at forming my own opinions and disclosing what's good and terrible, quality wise specifically. But as a young person, I like big mouth, I feel like it tackles the things it needs to when it comes to preteens-teens going through what they go through. I understand a lot of people can not stand the gross and "in your face" humor big mouth basically thrives on, but it makes me feel less crazy in a way, it helps me recognize that the things I'm feeling are normal, and the way they over exaggerate the feelings, reactions, and overall situation makes me feel like I am alright, I'm not crazy, I'm going through what I have to go through. With the depression, anxiety, gratitude, and adhd storylines they've worked it, it's done the same thing. One of my favourite things about the show is the way they personify issues, and feelings, It helps me relate and understand the characters and myself. I understand why and how a lot of people dislike it, my age or older, and it's heavily based on preferences, opinions, and all that, but I personally, love it, the humor and gross out humor adds to it in a way, though middle school boy esc, It's self aware in a way, and I'm unsure of whether its because thats all they can do or just because of a deep self understanding of the show, but I do enjoy it in an odd way. And I'm really sorry if you don't agree or that was hard to understand and or read, just sharing my own opinion
I agree and I can understand why it would make certain people uncomfortable but I like it for the same reasons as you. And that's basically how I formed my opinion. It does feel weird and look dumb when he takes scenes out of context but honestly it's a great show if you watch it and understand the context. At least that's my opinion and it is super relatable. I remember this one guy responding to this other guy saying it wasn't good by saying "it's not trying to be good it's just trying to be relatable" but I think for me it's that relatability factor along with the crazy humor that makes it good. I know this kinda sounds like a ramble, and it is but I just wanted to share my thoughts

Agree I really liked the beginning but I started hating it after the characters became more misogynistic and weirder?
I liked this show when it was called All Grown Up/As Told By Ginger and it wasn't 100% about sex and buzzwords.
The more I hear about people who disliked Big Mouth, the more I realize people need to know what teens and pre teens are like. Yes, kids are intelligent and can understand these stuff. Yes, they have opinion on politics, even if it’s still developing (ESPECIALLY feminism), and it often reflects what happens in their home. And yes, of course they wonder about LGBT stuff. It’s exactly at that time, when they reach puberty, that they wonder who they are and who they like. Sorry but as a middle school teacher, yes, they do speak like this, they do speak about these subjects, maybe with a broader spectrum of maturity than in the show

You’ve already wasted enough of my time so this will be my last answer: if to you acknowledging the fact that pre teens have desires (and opinions for that matter), and trying to talk about it is gross and hyper sexualizing (you must have not watched the show to think any scene was in any way arousing... or there’s a big problem with you) then you’re part of the reason why people grow to be ashamed of their own bodies and turn to porn for education.
Thank you! As a 14 year old, I can most definitely say that in a middle school setting, things like politics and sexuality are constantly brought up. It's at this time that kids think about these things the most, because it's at a time where not just the body is developing, but the mind as well.

The biggest thing that put me off was just the over bearing theme of sex for fucking everything. I don't mind sex here and there in shows, but when it's literally nothing but that, it's just not funny anymore and just kinda nasty.
