Proposal for a new solution to help with ballistic rating, attach night vision mounts all around the helmet surface, I call it the "cope cap"
haha I agree
i want one

Really makes you think why Ops-Core hasn't made a helmet out of NVG mounts yet.
let's see if t34 driver hatches work as well in real life
US Army in Ramadi 2006 - they made us wear croch, nape, throat, neck protectors, side sapi, eye pro, sometimes shoulder armor. Literally ever piece of armor we could get our hands on. Walking around like space marines.
Sharpel and mortar attacks were very very common we had to wear full armor anytime we were outside even on the FOB - even going to the gym or dfac or store.
Sounds like a sauna suit 🥵
Thanks for the test! Gonna cover my helmet in NV mounts like it's ERA.
I dub this, SLAPP 2.0
Use 5mm thick porcelain tile. It works.
Speaking of which, helmet mounted mini ERA when
@@evansaw293 Buy an aluminum oxide (alumina) refractory fire brick and cut into thin slabs. Even a few millimeters gives very high ballistic protection when combined with the aramid helmet base. Alumina is one of the ceramics used in commercial body armor along with boron carbide and silicon carbide. It has low density, high hardness and high strength compared to store bought ceramic tiles.
@@murmenaattori6 love it when the CZcams comments evolve into actual helpful tips keep it pal 👍
My dad got shot on his NVG shroud during his time in the sandbox and was left only with a bad headache. Like Babin said though, one inch or a different angle and he wouldn't be here today.
This touches on a lot of MBT armor developments during the days of the first APFSDS darts being common, placing a harder more brittle layer or layers in front of traditional RHA helps to shatter or break up the tip of the projectile making subsequent regular armor layers significantly more effective. This is seen in modern MBT armor arrays with ceramic/titanium/tungsten rod/ball/mesh inserts layered between RHA layers.
Much like in those developments, in the helmet development world you fight against the tradeoffs of increased size and weight such benefits offer.

Considering how light aluminum is, do you think an aluminum outer layer + polyethylene inner layer could be an effective modern helmet design?
The zsh1 2 uses an inner aluminum and Kevlar mix. The issue with mixing metal is weight, but it can be done and should be experimented with more imo
@@Oxide_does_his_best this is what ulbritch does , mixing titan and polyéthylène and they are , by far, the best helmet company of the world
@@nicolas8098 yea, wish they were more open for civilian market tho
@@Oxide_does_his_best
What about a lattice of tensioned carbon-fiber springs to mitigate backface deformation?
I had the spring idea for a ventilated kevlar neck protector that would meet with the back and sides of the helmet to take the weight off the user's neck.
@@scowler7200 No idea
They CAN stop some hits which is awesome! Edit -this was probably an expensive project.
Yup! Great info. I didn't think the aluminum mount would work so well
Almost like the NV mount functions as a strikeface.

As an early GWOT IOTV enjoyer, I have pissed on my nut flap many many times. Remember to flip and hold that flap up while relieving yourself gents.
Bonus GWOT Tip: When pissing in water bottles with a small opening allow enough room for air to escape while filling up the bottle or you’re going to have a bad time.
I've noticed the second tip pretty ez pressure builds pretty quick
@@Token_Black_Guy When you’re trying not to spill while being bounced around the back of a vehicle you tend to play your luck and I definitely lost a few times 🥹
@@Token_Black_Guy you gotta squeeze the bottle first, seal as well as you can, and fill it up like it's a camel bak bladder. Hope the driver doesn't hit every hole and rock while you're conducting bladder transfer operations.
Now I know something I never could have possibly dreamed up. Bravo sir.
Oh shoot, Do give us a little tour on your shooted-up collection of helmets and armour pieces someday
Nice use of the WARNO soundtrack. Absolute banger!

To watch the video, presumably.
I kinda wonder what a thin, spaced aluminum dome would do for an ach. It wouldn’t add much weight and given these tests, might actually make a difference
This is genuinly interesting, great video Oxide
That M64 build is literally beautiful, I've thought about basing a build off of yours since I saw it in that MRE review you did a while back
I feel totally vindicated in my choice to continue to run an ACH I got from a coast guard buddy and a Norotos mount.
Imagine being associated with one of the biggest American blunders in history
So mr.Oxide about those documents

Off topic, but I love the USMC Lightweight Helmet. Idk why, it's prolly cause it's just a modern PASGT.
It makes sense considering that armour arrays on tanks have been Metal/Non-metal composite arrays for decades at this point. As always the question is weight and it'd be interesting to see what combination of materials at a given thickness works. I could also see it being a thing that there is a reinforced band around the middle and lower with the top of the head left to Kevlar, kind of like those funky Indian turban-helmets. Or perhaps a "two cupped hands" arrangement where the front and sides are up-armoured and the top and back is left to Kevlar.
I wonder if you could go Metal/Rubber/Metal/Kevlar.

Ain't no fucking way broooooo 💀💀💀💀
Words can't describe how jealous I am of that sick Tig helmet
Haven't finished watching yet, but damn this is gonna be informative.
T-34 drivers hatch moment
that was funnier than i expected
Nice video. I wonder what's your thought on mordern steel helmet? They seem to be able to stop 3A rounds at much smaller deformation while weighting about the same as aramid helmets.
Wow! Great results.
I wonder if a screw on mount like the norotos presents vulnerabilities in the screw holes that the other mount wouldnt have. Kinda like the rail mounts on the ech.
thug shaker central was a fan of you
whos here after the doc leaks?
I should be sleeping but now i have to wait another 8 minutes
Any chance you'd consider adding cope cages to helmets and shooting them with various rifle rounds?
An aluminum cage over helmet + thin hardened steel slats or wedges designed to split incoming rounds into lower velocity and lower weight shrapnel.
The deflection angles could be calculated using the most likely impacts from a 90° angle to the strike face. So, basically a helmet covered in hardened steel blades arranged horizontally. Much like the SLAAP plate you've already tested, but not to catch the rounds and instead to cut the rounds into more smaller, more manageable pieces.
Oh hell yeah, some fresh oxide
basically the mount acts like a spaced armor before hitting the main armor (the helmet)
Makes me feel better about my solid block of mid 2000s aluminum known as a Wilcox G05
The sweet music from warno👌
Have you ever done a video on drop-testing armor?
I will now be investing in NVG mounts for all of my helmets despite not owning any NVGs
Yeah I'm placing a triangle plate on my helmet, that's the difference between a cracked egg and a rattled dude

@@Oxide_does_his_best Very well done bluing job then. Sometimes the welding is very noticeable. Awesome rifle.
I've noticed between this and the Russian aramid/metal layered helmets that this metal/soft armour mox seems to consistently improve performance vs a lot of pure metal or pure kevlar/uhwmpe helmets. Do you think there's some merit to adding say a thin steel outer layer over a soft armour helmets (basically replicating the mounts effect)?
It wouldn’t do much good against steel core bullets, so no
3:28 the best rotor
So What helmet do you recommend?
Very good information
Nice TIG-77, from West-German service? I got a similar one with a similar ballistic visor as yours as well as a more regular tig visor with a strange curve to it.

Need to peep the leak some day
Would you be able to test the Adept "NovaSteel" helmets? Can't find much testing on them on youtube. I think my previous comment was autodeleted because of a link so I'm commenting again without the link to the helmet.
I have one and will test it!

So light weight helmet up armor is nvg mounts? Sweet
It also helps that the helmet is allowed to travel after it’s been hit.
I've gotta slap some aluminum on my kevlar now
So that's where my rhino mount disappeared to last field op.
I already signed the FLIPL for that shit, too.
Yooo... WARNO soundtrack? Nice taste! Do you also play the game?
Do you happen to need any M855A1 or M80A1? I've got a small amount of each in Alabama, if you were looking at testing some modern US combat rounds.
I'm on Fort Rucker, send me an email
Do you think the fact the mounts are looser then actual stiff metal/Kevlar around the helmet helps dissipate the energy?
Yeah a little gap space does help a bit
May I just say, I feel bad for Oxides wallet
( yes ik the helmets were donated but still, dude shoots expensive equipment to show results )
ive seen a video on some dude's channel where he makes a working goofy ricochet body armor. why not make a useable helmet with the same concept?
Does the game have a USPS LLV option?
I can’t help but daydream while delivering my mail route about armoring my vehicle (would require a LOT of ballistic glass) and mounting a Ma Deuce and/or MK19 to the roof. Never considered rotor blades though 😂
Anyone got a link to that jacko podcast episode?
Aren't these shrouds titanium?
man the LWH certainly looked cool but would constantly sag forward in the prone.
Implementing the WARNO music? Good choice
Do you think a wilcox g24 mount could have the potential to stop a direct headshot as well? I don’t know what the material difference is between the g24 and say a rhino mount as an example.
I’d expect the results to be very similar
Very interesting video
Did you considered making same template for Video previews ?
No I like the mostly raw thumbnail format
Velocity systems ULV plate test, maybe?
are you ever gonna do a video on your M64
0:43 There's a flaw in your logic. While you're right about the area on the helmet that took the hit would have missed the head if he wasn't wearing a helmet...
However the flaw is because they were wearing a helmet the shooter has no way of knowing where the target's head is under the helmet. Meaning without the helmet the shooter knows where the target's head begins and ends, resulting in BOOM headshot.
So without the helmet anyone that took a helmet strike on the crown or side then ummm, well at least they could cosplay as JFK.
Cool Altyn visor
Thanks, this one is a psh77 and not an altyn 🤓
@@Oxide_does_his_best Oh mb, im not really knowledgeble on Eastern helmets or helmets in general🙃

Have you seen milspec mojo's test of PGD helmet? So i have seen people recommend you testing it before, and he got his one for free so you might as well :D Also you could compare it to the HHV and Opscore, the PGD claims to have really good back face deformation. Which as we saw the opscore didn't even though it cost 3x more than PDG helmet. I think it could be a banger video. Best regards a gun interested Dane.
do the thug shake
looks like you've become very famous
Very interesting topic and video.
Once i've read an information, that this is possible only with intermediate cartridges or heavy bullet subsonic derivatives of those, but full power rifle rounds, like 54R, even if the helmet will stop the bullet, the kinetic energy of it will, most likely, snap a neck. Same whiplash effect, that killed many racing drivers before HANS era.
as we speak I am bolting 12 nvg shrouds to my helmet.
