ABOUT PAPADAKIS RACING:
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Lol it’s good to know that even papadakis drops stuff on the ground and has to crawl around to find it.
At least his floors are white so they're easy to find
And there’s the reason for having a clean workshop ;)
His workshop is way cleaner them my living room
Lol!
Lol
No disassembly is complete without a search for the jeeesus clip
@freezeme360 a personal favourite is the hell spring. Small enough to to hide in shop dust. Large enough to fly across the room and land, apparently, in another dimension.
Rumour has it you can place a 10mm socket under your pillow and a fairy will find it for you overnight
Jeezless!
@@tojiroh you'll find it when you need a 9mm or 11mm
@freezeme360 maybe you’ve got imperial fairies. Try a 7/16 or 13/32
"Want to see me teardown other stuff?"
Uh yes, basically anything. I'll watch.
agreed, open up anything and everything engine-related. Maybe a power steering pump or AC compressor next? Different variable valve timing setups?
Yeah, I want to see everything. My suggestion is maybe an AC compressor or a electric bypass exhaust?
Yaaasss, tear down all the things
Mabe the electric power steering
Tear down the newer brushless pumps or dry sump oil pump
@Peterbjorck posted a video on dry sump pump just a few hours ago. Very educational videos just like this one :)
Look back a year he's torn down a dry sump system
I appreciate that papi papa isn't just a big wig in an office but actually knows the ins and outs of all his cars.
I think he's the exact opposite: totally involved with every aspect of his cars' development. Great knowledge and a great teacher.
A ABS unit would be interesting :)
That i would love to see!
To the top good Sir!
2 fuel pumps were harmed in the making of this educational documentary.
Nope...they were...um...er...hmmm...sacrificed at the "Alter of Knowledge"...
a workshop floor so clean you can find a c-clip on the floor easily after it pings off across the room.... niiiice!
That’s a clean floor to be able to find tiny e-clip
I dare say he has next level ocd cause i've seen some clean work areas but nothing like him
@@nuvisionprinting definitely , the man has a dedicated room just for building his engines
@@nikogambino2723 i've also seen dedicated engine rooms that aren't quite at the level of papadakis!
the gudgeon pin retainer clip that i lost on the floor and is preventing me from finishing my engine rebuild be like.
LMAO 6:44 Literally me every time I install valve springs and a retainer pops out
That was me in kitchen yesterday assembling my heads😅
This is extraordinarily detailed and broken down for us to easily understand. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Didnt find a 10mm while looking for that e clip did you?
Lol
Pap works on BMWs now... No 10mm needed. 😁
The end of the video is a classic when you are dealing with screws and that kind of clips, such a relief when you find them 😂
The fuel injector, small cc to large cc.
Came here to say this, maybe also include port vs direct injectors
I'll never sleep again from so many great youtube creators always posting lol
Who else you watch? I'm bored lol
I thought I was the only weirdo up at 2am every night watching CZcams lmao 🤣😂
@@imacaryay7628 applied science just uploaded
The entire electric motor is sorrounded by fuel
Me: 👁👄👁
This shocked me as well. But it makes sense.
Shocked me a bit when I learned about it a few years ago. Honda recently had an issue where, in the pursuit of energy efficiency, they ran the fuel pump at variable speeds according to flow need. With some fuels this would cause sulphur build up in the motor and then pump failure. So a software fix was put out to increase the minimum speed.
further, fuel carries away heat from the pump motor as well as lubricate and I assume clean it from commutator dust.
More teardowns!!!
Love seeing things torn apart in ways you can actually see how they work! Thanks for the description during disassembly too. More please!
yes please more tear downs and deep explanations of how stuff works
great video, I love how you go into details because many of us here are a little more than amateurs and as myself there are plenty of engineers I wish you tear down a high end turbo+waste gate and expose the technologies involved
loved the end bit. the blessing of working in a clean shop is finding dropped nuts and bolts
Tear down everything! Love seeing tear down videos by experts.
Just watching your videos you've taken away the fear of working cars being so complex. These videos make me want to learn more and do more with my own car.
Love teardowns of anything automotive oriented thanks for all the awesome content.
I’ve always admired how clean your shop is! Thanks for the video!
Thanx for all the awesome tech/info Stephan....always interesting to check out your videos...

I have been watching your channel for years and always enjoy listening to your perspective on these things. I would definitely want to see more videos like this, where you explain the inner workings of how these things work, or how you build your racecars

Can’t get enough of these videos. The cleanliness of the workshop always makes it for me! 🤤
I love how clean and organized your workshop is. That’s the first thing I look for when I take my car to an Indy mechanic.
I literally did a how do fuel pumps work search last week, thanks for the tear downs, exactly what I wanted to see :)
This was very interesting, thank for sharing this
Super interesting, as all your videos! Thank you!

Loved the video definitely want more of this!
Hard out! Teardowns, tech insights, bring it on Stephan
Thanks for sharing Stephan, I would have thought AEM used a brushless motor but guess the engineers have their reasons. Also like your teardown video's keep em' coming!
That was really cool thanks!
Definitely more of these vids too, very cool!
👍👌👍👌
This is neat! I really like it!
HAHAHAHAH the end where the clip flies off at the speed of light! so funny
Great demo of Hydrostatic/dynamic pumps and their differences
Cool! Thanks papadakis!
I just love how the floor and workplace in general is really clean. So that also you can still find your clip when it decided to go on a field trip
That was interesting, thanks
You sir are a great content creator... this is of the channels I can actually rely on to find ENTERTAINING INFORMATIVE videos.
thats real teaching who needs vocational school when you got papadakis and youtube
There's no substitute for hands-on instruction.
More teardowns please! Thank you.
Great video!!!
In 1994 I had a 16v Golf 2 which ran a Bosch high pressure pump like the one you opened. A fitter and Turner friend and I opened it up and serviced it.......car ran another 180 000 km on it. He started a successful business doing repairs!!!!
I still can't believe we get to see how your team operates. Please keep content flowing it's awesome.
Great stuff Steph! From building 1000+ HP racing cars to messing around with the details this is a great channel for engineering enthusiats.
Loves the vids man. Keep it up
100% loving this. 👍
I love this video disassembly. I hope you make other video like this soon
