You get 1 every successful clear. After that you need to increase the 'Heat' gauge to get more. I had a stock pile because I never spent any :D
Edit : Correction - You actually get 2. You get 1 from the first boss (which doesn't require you complete the run). Then a second from winning vs. The final boss.
