- On March, 2019 Peter Hammill gave two concerts in Athens at Gagarin 205 Live Music Space.
Peter Hammill is an English singer-songwriter and a founder member of the rock band Van der Graaf Generator, formed in 1967, but his solo career has coexisted always with the band's activities.
He is solely an independent recording artist. His songs have unusual structures, where he sings about the wish to change things, free will, predestination, love and death, human relationships, ageing, self-awareness and introspection, religion and politics. His music is multi-faceted. His voice is very distinctive and has a dynamic range.
Peter Hammill is truly unique in many ways.
Generally he doesn't undertake live tours to promote albums and he is far from commercial concerns.
"The music world has gone IKEA - one size," he says. "And I'm a bespoke furniture maker. Not selling many, and only to people who find me."

@@orio723 Смотря какое опрделение Вы даёте фанатке / фану ) Но лично я отвечу: нет. Я не знаю всех композиций Питера или VDGG наизусть. И я познакомилась с их творчеством меньше года назад, просто придя на его концерт. Но стихи и музыка мистера Хэммилла выражают моё внутреннее состояние, мои чувства.

И хотя есть мнение, что записывать видео на концертах это моветон, с чем я с одной стороны согласна, с другой же стороны, я вижу комментарии под этим видео и что люди рады увидеть живой концерт своего любимого исполнителя ) ... Питер Хэммилл - замечательный, глубокий поэт и композитор, и хочется, чтобы о его творчестве узнало больше людей.
Кстати, Van der Graaf Generator приезжают с концертом в Польшу весной. Я желаю Вам найти возможность посетить их концерт тоже... )

I love how he touches the piano, and his voice is always emotional.
He is still such an exceptional performer. I first heard Pawn Hearts in 2009 and since then I have been so deeply inspired by him. His music has really resonated with me on an almost spiritual level, especially within the passed few years. Its something i can't really explain. I hope he visits the US at least one more time.

I haven't seen Peter Hammill perform on his own since 2010 --- saw so many shows in the 70's, 80's and a tiny bit in the 90's. I miss those amazing performances like no one else. I hope he come back here one more time as well.
Rob Lane: That must have been an amazing experience seeing him live in the 70's through to the 90s.Ive seen many Van Der Graff videos from that time period (70s to 80s) and the energy is so awesome on stage. i was born in 1983 and didn't get into his work until 2009. Since that day everything has changed because of his music. Its really amazing. Its pretty heart warming that there are still people that recognize and appreciate his music.
Also Polka Dot: I still keep going back to this video. Its perfectly recorded to the point that I feel like Im physically there. I am forever grateful for this upload. And yes I hope he has a few more years left so I can actually see him live in the US whether its solo or with Van Der Graaf. I feel like the time is NOW. I want the future now!!!

@@h.p.dominocus I am 63 now and had attended Peter Hammill's live show (w/David Jackson) the first time in 1983, the year you were born :) Than a year later with the K Group, and twice in 2001. Never had the chance to see VDGG though.

If you like what you hear I'd suggest you buy" Not Yet Not Now" and support the artist. This is a fantastic 8 CD live Hammill box. The man is a genius and very strong live!

Thank you! I love Peter Hammill and Van der Graaf Generator, since 1982, when I was only 15, I knew them from radio, by Excelsior FM, São Paulo - SP, Brazil. Valdir Montanari was the radio DJ who presented them to me. Unfortunately, though I have travelled to Europe during several times, couldn't have the luck to go and watch Peter or VdGG, because it's complicated to schedule vacations where I work. Maybe someday, if I still have this great opportunity, God knows. I tried to buy from Sofa Sound once, but I wasn't charged in my credit card and the CDs never arrived. Maybe Sofa Sound doesn't sell to Brazil, because of robbery. HMV doesn't for this reason, and I bought many CDs there, when I travelled to London. When CDs were commonly sold, I bought almost every VdGG's and Peter Hammill's works. Nowadays, I prefer to watch and hear those great works online. Thank You again, your contribution is really precious to me!!!

@@Syfoll I also didn't know about him until this spring, just decided to go at a concert of some good enough singer as I read from reviews. I didn't regret about my choice at all!
It seems that he doesn't want to stop his live performances, so I think and I hope we will keep seeing him on the stage.
