    I respect people who don't ship it, but it is likely a mistake on Tui's part, since the winglet book "Assassin" came out AFTER "Winter Turning". In "Winter Turning" Deathbringer's age IS mentioned on page 50:
    "[Deathbringer] was a NightWing a few years older than [Winter], wiry and graceful and clearly trained to fight from the way he stood and the way he was assessing Winter."
    Winter is 5, which would really make Deathbringer ~7 or 8, and thus only a year or so older than Glory, since she's 7 by "The Brightest Night". His age in "Assassin" is very possibly just a timeline error on Tui's part, and honestly because of that, I have no problem shipping it and no problem with people who ship it.
    It's also important to remember that Tui used to be one of the Erins, the writers for Warrior Cats, who are all notorious for their writing mistakes, from eye color, to gender, and more. Wings of Fire is definitely not safe from potential errors. In book 15 they even say (twice) that SeaWing blood is blue, when it isn't. Only IceWings have blue blood.
    Edit: Cleaned up my explanation a little bit for ease of understanding + evidence

    Look at what it says in the book:

    Also: On page 149 of The Dark Secret, it says this, ‘Fatespeaker grabbed the bars. “You’ve met the queen?”
    Deathbringer tilted his head at her. “No, not face-to-face, of course. She watches us through screens and speaks through her daughter, Greatness. It’s been like that as long as I’ve been alive, anyway.”’ This proves that Deathbringer could not be older than 9 years old.

    As many others have stated, Deathbringer was intended to be around 8-9 years old (referenced in Winter Turning I believe) when Glory was 7 (both young adults!) and was referred to as a dragonet in the hidden kingdom when Glory was also a dragonet. They are meant to be close in age.
    Also, 12 =/= 30 as many have claimed. Once dragon reach their full age, they mature extremely slowly. In fact they probably slow down to around half a year of aging for every year that we age. That would only put Deathbringer at 12 in his early twenties (around 21 yrs old) and Glory being 7 at full physical maturity, at 18 years old.
    That is not nearly as weird as people make it seem.
    Also, it was just a continuity mistake with a short story that barely matters to the main plot, where he was accidentally made much older than her! It is not predatory, it is not grooming, it is not p*dophilia, it was a genuine mistake! SO can people please stop attacking this ship and people who ship it?

    I see this as such a silly drama. Authors forgetting the ages of their characters happens literally all the time. I'm an author myself, I forget my characters ages too lmao. Tui is a very good person imo, I do not think she would purposefully pair an adult and a minor. However, I do think she needs to publish her dragon aging system somewhere, with the canon ages off all major characters just so people can stop freaking out. Obviously, dragons do not age the same way humans do (wof dragons can live for hundreds or even thousands of years). Comparing what's appropriate for humans to what's appropriate for dragons is apples to oranges (especially because they don't exist and everyone has their own take on it). Glory is shown to be very mature, smart and able to handle being queen, which I do not think a typical child could do, so I think she is a young adult with Deathbringer being just a year or two older in dragon years.

    Very smooth animation. And to all the people who hate Glorybringer because of "ThE aGe GaP". Dragons grow to maturity quick and them slam on the brakes. Deathbringer, in human equivalent, is around 22-ish, Glory would be about 17-19. They are pretty much the same age in equivalent human ages. And IRL we have people who marry someone 40 years younger than them and nobody bats an eye. And 6 or 7 is about adult for dragons, so Glory is an adult which means it doesn't matter and you can go stick a fork in an outlet. Also, the biggest point on my part is, they are dragons not people.

They have a really entertaining dynamic and Deathbringer has never been predatory towards Glory or manipulated her using her lack of life experience. Hell, they're barely even together officially in the series-more like they're at the beginnings of a romance. That isn't even to mention that Glory is a queen now, so if there was some kind of power imbalance, Glory would be the dominant one. This might be quite a controversial take, but quite frankly I don’t think the age gap matters all that much. It is true that, by error, Deathbringer was made to be older than Glory by a noticeable margin, however, despite the unintentional moral conflict, I believe for the sake of the original intention of Tui, it does not matter. The relationship was not treated as a predatory one, such as in the case of Whirlpool and Anemone. The intention was clearly for them to be of similar ages, with similar levels of maturity. In our world, yes, it could still be objectively viewed as a bit weird and questionable, but if I may remind you, this is a fantasy novel, in which loads of actions that do not translate well or at all to real life.
    TLDR; the age gap is not that bad, the intentions of the author were not morally corrupt, and it’s a fantasy series, not a 1:1 replica of real life. If you really find the need to complain about such a minor detail, go touch some grass and get a life lol

    This whole “debacle” is frankly just dumb. At most, GloryBringer is like if a 18-20 year old human and a 25-28 year old human hooked up. Glory and Deathbringer both are and act like young adults. They are equals mentally and emotionally. Even then, Glory has all of the power in the relationship and can very easily have Deathbringer killed or exiled if she ever felt threatened by him. Like, *at most* it could be argued that it’s problematic relationship because _she’s_ his queen which opens the door for Glory punishing Deathbringer if he refused her advances. Except that their relationship isn’t like that at all.
    It’s nowhere near scandalous. But, here are a bunch of trigger-happy teens are clutching their pearls over _nothing._ And to go as far as to preach that Tui and GloryBringer shippers are all pedos/groomers is frankly a disgusting display of malice and ignorance. If you don’t like the ship that’s fine. I can understand people not liking the characters much and thus not like the relationship. Honestly, i put all the blame on the writers and am really disappointed that they made this oversight. The aging system in general is really, really confusing.
    I don't blame many of the ships fans because a lot of glorybringer fans are children, or were children when they read the books, and that means they are often not critical of the media they consume. The age gap wasn't explicitly pointed out so it's natural that they wouldn't notice (i certainly didn't while reading) and would grow attached to the ship. It becomes problematic when someone acknowledges and normalizes the age gap, but i believe most see them as either both dragonets or both dragons, as I did while reading.
    What's always been gross to me is the attacking of others on both sides, though esp the anti glorybringer side going after innocent and clearly young shipper (this may be just a WoF amino experience tho lol). They are dragons, they age differently. It’s like getting upset over a 15 year old bird being mates with a 40 year old bird.
    Or if you need a human example
    Glory is a young adult (18-28)
    Six year age differences are COMMON as adults, 5-6 years is normal completely. They are BOTH ADULTS there is nothing sketchy about it y’all are over thinking dragons which are mature earlier in life than humans. THEY AREN’T PEOPLE they were basically adults at 5 in dragon years

      Either way, Tui even stated the age gap was a mistake, so I feel like, she should probably actually fix it?

    can people STOP ACTING LIKE HUMAN MORALS AND LAWS HAVE ANY PART IN THIS WORLD. The age was a mistake, everyone knows it. The dragons are literally allowed to kill their mothers and become queens at 7. and I belive 7 is the young adult stage, prove be wrong but for humans we are young adults at 18-19. the "minor" stage is passed, the ship doesn't really have any issues other than the accidental, I repeat, ACCIDENTAL age gap. so can people at LEAST not attack people who ship it-?

      … they clearly are. Dragons who kill for their own selfish gain are looked down upon by the protagonists. That’s human moral. Animals wouldn’t care.
      I agree that Glorybringer is fine, since Glory is an adult and Deathbringers actually not that much older Tui just made a mistake, but to act like human morals aren’t at play here is silly. It’s a brutal society, that’s for sure, but not an animalistic one.

    • @toastysweaters5692
      @toastysweaters5692 Před 2 lety

      @@rubyred6608760 I have to disagree. Because even the protagonists were okay with killing at one point, because it’s just part of their society, specifically Tsunami and Glory. in the Lost Heir, Tsunami was excited to see her mother again, but acknowledged that she will have to kill her at some point to become Queen, but wasn’t too fazed by it because it would take long for that to happen. In the Glory’s book, she prepared to kill the current Queen of the RainWings, so she could take the throne, before being convinced to do competitions instead. Their civilisation is messed up in more ways than one, but it’s how they live.

    • @rubyred6608760
      @rubyred6608760 Před 2 lety

      @@toastysweaters5692 Exactly. The protagonists only do it when they have to. The only reason they wanted to kill them was so they could become queen and help their people. I’m not arguing that it isn’t a brutal and messed up society, because it clearly is, I’m arguing that it’s NOT an animalistic one like people are claiming. They still go to school, trade, buy things, have a CURRENCY, strategize in war, write, wear metal armor, etc etc etc. Animals don’t do that.

    • @magena120
      @magena120 Před 2 lety +1

      The age gap was literally confirmed to be a mistake and the books have described Deathbringer as being a few years older than Winter so he’s supposed to be around Glory’s age. It would be completely different if it wasn’t a mistake and Tui intended on there to be an age gap. Yes it’s strange to have someone double your age hit on you when you’re not fully mature but that wasn’t what Tui was going for at the end of the day. I’m not trying to take a side or “ defend” Glorybringer but I don’t understand why some people act like Tui never confirmed it was a mistake and that Deathbringer isn’t supposed to be 13. Tui has made several errors in the books before but why does this one still get treated like cannon? I genuinely don’t understand

    • @JustAShyGhost
      @JustAShyGhost Před 2 lety +1

      Your doing your math wrong, Deathbringer is only double glorys age in dragon years NOT human years. They age diffetently so this isn't a case of 18 and 36. Much rather of 18-20 and 20-26 (especially since he is 9 years or younger, not 13)

You're not stating your opinion on the matter, just acknowledging it, which seems pretty weird because this video feels like it was only made to get people riled up and start arguments in the comments, which is what it did. Whether or not this was intended as a way to harmlessly poke fun at the discourse doesn't really matter when all this is doing is perpetuating said discourse.
