Great video John!! I'll be binge watching all of these videos next year when I set up my next tank. it's a great way to make sure I don't forget anything.
The angelfish tank behind you is gorgeous
Excellent. Thanks for all the videos you post. i watched every single one in the last 2 weeks . i now check every other day for new uploads and am working through all the podcasts :)
so much appreciation.
Be well
+Linden Edwards Awesome!! Thanks so much!!
New Subbie here. Thank you so much for sharing all this information with us. I have been researching like crazy because I will be a first time fish tank owner and I want to make sure I have a good experience as well as the fish I buy lol. I'm so glad I found your channel... by far the most straight to the point and great advise in my opinion.
Hey Man love your energy and knowledge, this series is great and explained very well in detail, 'I've seen a few other CZcams channels but by far this is my favourite channel, earned yourself a subscriber
I like this man he is very helpful.....👉👍👈
I just got a 50 gl long and tall aquarium set up. I’ve been pouring through your CZcams channel trying to gain as much info as I can on this new adventure. So much information! I’m so glad that I found KG Tropicals! Having a bit of a memory retention overload with all the info. I’m confident to order through KGT but can’t seem to find any info about how to order.
i can relate to many of your suggestions,
we don't have a LFS near me the closest is 40+ miles
the only place to house fish is big W ; but they only have a few employees that know how to care for the fish stock .
so i have found out when the new shipments come in and try to watch the unboxing to see them and select from them
we have 2 goldies we had going on 4 yrs now and we're taking them to the LFS's i mentioned to be rehoused and to check the store out this LFS is outside the regular franchises we all have known and they deal with SW and FW and plants
I wish you’d made this video 2 months ago. My wife and I just got into the hobby and everything was going well until we added 2 Molly’s from PetSmart. Killed my entire tank within a week. I went back into the store, not to start any trouble with the employees, but to look at the tank. Literally every single molly there had severe shimmies and several had parasitic poop.
I found a “local” aquarium store just about 45 minutes from my house and the owner there is helping me get my tank back to running order and we should be starting over and adding fish next weekend.
He made it 5 years ago tho
As always, excellent advice!
Always great to watch you man ! thx a lot for your informative videos
Thank so much!
Another place to buy fish is from local fish organisations/clubs - these often have auctions.
Also, becoming a member of a fish forum - which are handy if you are trying to track down and purchase the more rarer fish...other members will often let you know about their own experience of purchasing from the person and what the quality of the fish was like....forums are also great if you are looking for more information on that fish...
John, great advice for newbies. keep it up. School is in session.
+David Schneider Yes sir, class is dismissed until next Sunday:-)
where i live all the fish shops get there fish from the same big warehouse but some shops are asking up to twice the price that some other shops do
Before buying fish online I usually ask for the supplier to send me pictures of the aquarium were the fish are being kept do I could get a look before actually buying them.
Well said.
i wanted some african cichlids but I only have a 90l so im stocking my aquarium and getting 2 kribs which are still nice fish
So, I went to Walmart, and saw that they had Black Moore Gold fish and they looked very healthy. I was wondering if this was an ok place to get a few fish. I was just nervous because this isn't really a fish store
Question for the experts. new 75G tank is fishless cycled. Now how many fishes is safe to add at once in a newly fishless cycled tank. looking to get Tanganyikans (cichlids). LFS recommends 3 cichlids to start due to ammonia spike. 3 cichlids in 75g tank seems to spell aggression. suggestions please.
I wouldn't mine purchasing fish from someone I trust like you BUT what are the shipping charges?????
Great info John
+paulone65 Thanks so much!
great video
Jon how come you close the fish shop?
nice video John, between you and Joey, you guys to a great job of helping out the fish keeping community. Keep up the great work. And we a still waiting for you to pop in on the DIY Fishkeepers page of Facebook. :-D
+michael hoyle I may pop in there some day:-) Thanks for the compliments:-)
do you have an opinion on keeping red belly piranhas. or piranhas overhead?? i haven't seen a video from you about carnivorous fishes like them :)
Love your videos!
+Kathy Janus Thanks:-)
Great advice and info.
Do you have a quarantine tank and do you use it?
Hi! I'm thinking of getting a new tank. The goal is a 180 L (47 gallon) tank. Is that too small for peacocks and haps? Maybe it works with Mbuna? My current tank is 120 L with Tanganyikans, but now I'm interested in malawi. Please let me hear if you think 180 L is too small for malawi cichlids, and or what cichlids could work. Love your vids:)
well what if I jumped in to it and now have ich and I don't know what to do
One thing for all of you stuck at shopping at large stores (petco and petsmart). These stores offer a 14 day guarantee. A questionable fish can infect your tank. I have heard other fish keepers use this policy to rationalize taking a chance on a questionable fish. I argue that the small risk is not worth exposing a main tank to possible infections. I just wanted to get that out there to hopefully help people realize that a guarantee does not imply quality.
I really like this series thank you for posting.
+ValenSabreAngel You're right, the sad thing is that I've heard just as many stories of infected fish from reputable retailers as I have the big box stores. The truth is you never really know these days. It's better to be safe then sorry. Thanks for watching:-)
True that. I hate to say it but I don't buy fish that don't look 100%
john im setting up my new 125 gallon and yes I am doing my research, but have you used Chemi-Pure Elite alot of people on CZcams swear by it what do you think of it?
thank u very much..i knew u would be the guy to confirm if it was a issue..appericate the discount code:)
I've ordered twice from Josh at Livefishdirect.com, and couldn't be happier. Really solid choice, and one of the easiest websites to navigate.
great vid...again dude. going off topic....brown algae...good or bad? keep or get rid of it, if get rid...any ideas. Also which do you prefer...African or American, and why?...im guessing african for some strange reason haha. your thoughts?
im gona b a first time buyer of a shipped fish perfect timming for this video..i have a question.when u get ur fish from either petstore or even shipped and they write black marker on the bags is it bad to put that marker in ur tank when u float the fish?..I always switch my fish to a ziplock when i get them home to float them..just curiouse ur thoughts bc u have obvisually been doing this alot long then me witj amazing fish and knowleage so i figure ur the guy to ask..lol
+Chris Gill I've never had it cause a problem but if you're concerned about it theres an easier solution to the problem. Most of the time when you receive fish that have been shipped to you they will be double bagged. Just take the outside bag (with the writing on it) off and float the inside bag, problem solved:-) But I don't even do that and have never had a problem. If you're thinking of ordering from Live Fish Direct don't forget to enter Tank Talk at check out for a discount:-)
i love the angelfish fighting in the back lol
Yeah we ended up with a breeding pair in there and they started pushing the others around:-)
omg this is so cool that you are actually talking to me thank u and that is the smallest angelfish pair in size i have ever seen so cool :000
why did you stop your fish shop, John?
Lol, "unboxing videos are dumb unless they're about things I like"
do you know any online fish stores that ship fish from a country to another ? i live in Indonesia ...
+Joel Sianturi No I don't sorry, I'm only familiar with U.S. companies.
U stay in Virginia ??
Well I bought some fish from petsmart and one of the fish was sick and I found out that it was ich and it infected all my fish and they're just dying one after the other only have 7 left.
I literally just went thru this exact situation. All of my gosh died in the span of 1 week.
I got 2 oscars about a 1 week ago and I didn't see that when I bought them they came with Hole in the head, could please do a video to help me out it would awesome if you did, thanks.
Those oscars are putting holes in their heads. They fight a lot.
umm...why is water in the bags turquise or even blue, are those meds perhaps?
Swagger whitout swag Stress-reducing, I think...
how much is it because I what one
my neons are dull in colour and gasping whats wrong with them
Bert Ramsay late reply feed them the inside of a green pea
I just got my Fish and it is kinda Scary idk what to do! I Feel like I will pull the hair out of my head.
Another point, try and quarantine all new arrivals regardless where you buy them from. Nothing worse than getting ICK a few days later from a fish that looked healthy a few days ago. Now your entire tank needs to be medicated. That SUCKS.
Very true but this video is about new fish keepers buying their first fish. Most likely a brand new fish keeper won't have the ability to quarantine. Good point though for someone who has an already established tank.
Oh ya! Dangit BUSTED ME! =)
Ha ha its all good brother!
My snails were a 3 day garentee
And they died on the 4th day
is Walmart a good fish to buy fish
lion raor roar not really
I know this is 3 years but it depends
Who thought of Kodak black when he said tunnel vision
Before buying fish online I usually ask for the supplier to send me pictures of the aquarium were the fish are being kept do I could get a look before actually buying them.
+ButterBandit00 That's not a bad strategy at all. Most suppliers will do that but understand that these people are extremely busy and it can make it difficult to do that. My point with the video though was the whole idea about building trust. If you trust the person you're buying from and are confident they're gonna send you a nice fish a pic of the tank shouldn't be necessary:-)
+KGTropicals I completely understand and agree with your point but it never hurts to ask. :)
