Hi, could you please make up a video on molly fish requirements, tankmates, tank setup and more.
get a new bucket and make it a dedicated water change bucket, so you don't use it for house cleaning
To add to that, get one with measurements on it, then you know how much came out so you know how much to put back! They are usually light colored so you can see all the gook you get out, as well as anything you accidentally sucked up. I always get them from the painting section at the hardware store.
Even better, a collapsible bucket. Easy to store, saves space.
@@anoobis_easy to get holes in
I use a common bucket for all of my aquariums is it ok?
@@Fossilpump9080 common bucket is good as well, keep it just for your aquariums
I like that this is more up-to-date with recommending minimum 5g for a betta tank. Yes smaller tanks like 2.5g, 3g, 3.5g can work but they are borderline a bit too small still, like absolute bare minimum - but 5g really is best as a minimum tank size for one betta.
You provide everything for both Newby fishkeepers and those more experienced. Love your videos!😊
Excellent info. Thanks Irene! I've kept bettas since I was a kid. They are my favorite centerpiece fish for any small to medium-ish sized tropical community tank. Definitely one of the most interactive fish you'll find in that size, too.
I've had fish tanks since the 90s and one thing is clear; You never stop learning. And it's fun to see how you do things in America. My problem has always been overfeeding the fish. I like to spoil them😅.
Good and informative video 👍
That red and black betta atbthe beginning was stunning! ❤
Great video for beginner fish keeping and great reminders for us old folks 😊🩵👍
Hmm was not prepared to spend 200 dollars on the fish my sister just showed up to my house with. But I’m committed now 😂 #bettadaddy
Omg my in laws got my 1 and 1/2 year old son a beta fish in one of those small fish kits now we are also beta parents. Not prepared 😂😭
I'm so glad I watched this before getting a betta! I have one of those silly setups that are way too small for even a single betta. I had no idea that a strong filter can cause fin rot! I was misled to believe that a strong current was good for the health of the water, that explains why the bettas I previously tried keeping were getting fin rot. I also wasn't using the testing strips, and I think the small tank was causing the heater to overheat the water. I feel so bad for reading bad info and not doing enough research, this was so eye opening, thank you!
One thing I'm not so sure on tho is putting the pothos plant in the tank, I've heard it releases calcium oxalate into the water, which is toxic for the betta.
This video is great! Your friend is very lucky to have you!
Another great video Irene; clear, concise info that covers everything. Would it be possible to do a video that includes how to prune aquatic plants?
You can buy special feeds that have select nutrients that both cover any nutrient deficiency in the future, and help with the treatment process.
The "tannin bundle" could also help out, and even compliment the tank quite well if. Dried leaves, pre-soaked wood, and/or cones to help fight off parasitic and fungal infections. I usually boil whatever I plan to put in for at least 10 minutes, and then soak it in an airtight bucket or container for about a week (sometimes two).
Irene is a genius! I've never been able to train my bettas to use the restroom!😅 Just kidding, great video, covered all the bases! Love it!❤
Great tips! I always enjoy her vids! 👍😊 I'd use caution w/that sponge filter if you have a betta with fancy fins. My double-fin half moon cut his fins on the rough sponge, so I switched to a low-flow hanging filter. Would be great if Aq Co-op offered a finer sponge or nano hanging filter!
Thanks Irene. I just set one up.👍💚
What a great video! Best one I’ve seen so far!
Always well organized advice.
👍❤️👍
I just buy spring water let it warm up to the right temperature and put my betta fish and he as happy as he can be but I do recommend a warmer, a small filter and air pump is very cheap on Amazon. This here makes it sound to much to bare is not that difficult to care for a Betta and they will live happy.
Marineland 5.5 gallon tank, Perfecto hood, Lee undergravel filter, Cascade 20 HOB filter. Originally a dedicated shrimp tank it has a crushed coral bed with purple sand over the coral. It currently house's shrimp and snails but will in a few days have a new occupant. A Black Samurai Double Rosetail Betta. If he can't cohabitate with the shrimp, they will be moved. I'm 59 and have had and admired Bettas for decades. Also have driftwood, some rocks and some live plants. I also use Chemipure green in the Cascade filter.
I know it’s a great video when irene’s in the video!!!❤
I love that you’ve paired up with aquarium co op. I watched your channel videos and aquarium co ops to help a friend set up a tank. I’m yet to get my own yet. Need to do some more adulting before I can get one lol
Keeping a betta isn't very hard. I've had tanks since I was ten! Of course get one when you are ready, but I think you could handle one now. 😉
If you are feeding flakes press them against the glass to create a little food dollop.
*If you only get one fertilizer, Easy Green is the one you want. Our unique formula is comprehensive, concentrated, and easy to use. Just dose 1 pump per 10 gallons of water and watch your planted tank flourish! Try it out: **www.aquariumcoop.com/products/easy-green-all-in-one-fertilizer*
Would you use half a pump or a full pump for a five gallon tank?
Great explanation Irene!
Hi! ❤ I hope you’re having a great newish year- I love your channel. Your energy is contagious and you really cheer me up. I have a question: I remember you mentioning that I could purchase a seeded sponge filter at aquarium co-op webbshop - but I could not find them. Did I get that info wrong? I have 4 new tanks I want to start working on and I need all the help I can get…
Thank you for all you do ❤
Ana
Thank you!
I use 10 gallons for both of my betta fish (they're in my bedroom), and one of them is a baby as of now. I found it's easier for me to maintain water parameters in a bigger tank. ☺
Thank you great content
Hey Irene! Thank you for always giving us great tips! I know you’ve done a video on this before but could you make an updated enrichment video for betta fish? My betta just stares at me every time I walk by for food, but I don’t want him to get fat. I would love some tips to keep him occupied.
Late, but a ping bong ball is grat as is the log toy she recommed & broad leaf plants to swim thru & rest on. 😊
Dude! Great info.
The usb nano air pump and nano sponge from aquarium coop are perfect for 5 gallon betta set up
I love bettas they are such sweet fish
11:30 If your fish tank is not plugged into a GFCI, I'd recommend getting a plug in GFCI. It's a bit of insurance with all that electrical stuff in water.
I was given a 10 galon tank but I have no idea about fish and fish care, always tried to have tetras as a kid and they would always die. I didnt want a 10 gal on for a betta but now I gues I can make a betta kingdom with it LOL! trying to learn about how to care for the fish, what fish can go with it and plant care. thank you for the video!
My betta died today and I’m crying it was my best friend
I’m sorry to hear that dude they’re in a better place now
🌸🌸❤️

Beautiful fishes bro godbless
I’m here because I want to get a fish and use its water to feed my plants (and it will also just be cool to have a fish!). Judging by the gorgeous Thai Constellation Monstera in the background, it seems I’m not the only one. 🤭
off topic but that thai constellation in the back is beautiful ✨
I get a chuckle when you say he goes to the “rest room!” 😂
Just a note, those plants were not pothos. They were scindapsus and philodendron brazil.
Good how to do video 😊👍
Omg that Thai 😍
Late, but did you mention indian almond leaves for the comforting & benefits healing?
Congratulations @ bucket water whatever you said
I have a sponge filter and an hob for my Betta. If you get one with an adjustable flow, it won’t bother the fish. Sponge filters do fine for bio filtration but I’m not impressed with their mechanical
If you buy one of the aquarium kits the filters are perfectly fine just. To slow down the flow instead of using the filter cartridges inside that are actually pointless replace them with a sponge taking up the whole filter to slow down the water also feel your tank up all the way to the brim of the filter so water is not falling down as far for some reason those filters have a water line that's really low, that's pointless.
Just a regular kitchen sponge?
@Betta Days they make sponges for aquariums that come in sheets anywhere for like a quarter inch thick to about 2in thick you can cut them to size to fit your aquarium filters. Pretty much all hang on the back filters should be replaced with the sponges. You should only use the carbon filters if you believe there might be some kind of chemical that got into your water. Sponges last longer since the only thing you need to do is squeeze them clean and then put them back.
You mentioned that black gravel had benefits but I don't think I heard the reasons. ty for your reply.
I use distilled water 1$ per gallon. So 5$. No tap water for me.
I got a betta round 4 months ago pertty sure hes a boy. Lol. My grand daughter named him cupcake😊 anyhow Cupcake would not eat the fish flakes only the betta pellets oh yeah Cupcake is purple, I let her pick him out too, cakecup is very much loved, my granddaughter is 8 so Cupcake gets plenty of attention. Thank you for all you advise yall have a good adventure with all your bettas😍
I remember you mentioned your house was kept cold during the winter. Mine is at 65 during the winter. What wattage would you use then?
What do you think about topfin 5 gallon tanks? I’m thinking about getting a 5 gallon tank for a betta fish for the first time.
How often should you give fertilizer to the plants?
How did you get your Scarlet temple so red. They look awesome
Dang. I thought I was going to get a Beta but this video makes me feel like I need to beat doctor in order to know how to take care of one. Now we I'm afraid to try.
Yes Bettas are easy like pet stores make you think. They need a lot of care. 😉
Fishes are fishes, theyre not cats that get used to living indoors or outdoors, its a fish that needs a replica od their natural habitat since its the only habitat they live in. Hope this helps😊
I had a betta for 4 years and didn't know much about it and still lived a normal long life. Betta's are not as sensitive as some other fishes, they are a good choice for beginners, in my opinion you don't need to do everything perfectly.
What device are you using to add the water to the tank? I see the hose, but what does the rest look like?
I've had people tell me that a filtration system wasn't necessary....WHAT. If any of you have been told this, it's not true, please provide your betta with a filtration system and a heater. They aren't super expensive but can dramatically improve your betta's life.
Nah, they definitely aren't. A 20 gallon can support more than enough plants for a single betta.
I got my first beta today but i only have a 2.5 tank…after watching the video i realize that may be too small. lady af petco said this was what i needed tho lol
Yeah that is too small. People at petco sometimes are just hired because staff is needed.
So when do start to switch up the food for the fish?
What kind of stones do you like for betas?
Can I use well water in a betta tank? Part of the house has straight well water and half goes through a water softener.
My sister wants to breed betas, which means I'm going to be gifted a lot of fish. I need this vid.
Betta Pellets are a bud idea. They whe Insect larve
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice video. Do you prefer a coarse sponge filter over a fine one, and if so, why?
We prefer the coarse sponges, as it makes for a better user experience as far as maintenance and flow is concerned. ~ Zenzo from the Aquarium Co-Op team
❤
Hey can please tell me the name of medications you used at the end after the fish in tank
What about a lid for jumping bettas?
You Can Keep multiple female Bettas with Danios and raspboras. The more action lends to less aggression
Please help! I have a 14 gallon new tank and want a Betta and some Neon Tetras and some Cory's and Otos. So how many of each fish besides the Betta?
I have a 6.5 gallon tank that I'm moving to Florida from Michigan! How would you redo that? I've been trying to figure out how? And to top it off my Betta is blind! I don't want to stress him out! And I have a mystery snail Buddy with him as well! How would I safely move them?
YALL im doing a bunch of reasearch because my grandma has betta fish and she is about to go into assisted living she has had the betta fiash in very small tanks and i only have till tomorrow when im getting them i dont have time to let the plants grow or any of that im giving one to my friend who has a tank i know what to buy to set up the tank but how do i help the fish aclimate and not kill it by putting it into a brand new tank? of course i will use a de chloronizer thing but what plants should i get and how do i make sure there is no phnemonia
Yep change normalizing
Hi cookie
Hi
😀
OK bạn 👍👍👍
Woah is that a Thai Constellation? 1:24
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for not putting it in a bowl.
Is it okay to have a bare bottom tank for a Betta? I have plants and driftwood and sponge filters, but I don’t like the idea of sand. Please advise
Yes, it is perfectly fine. ~ Zenzo
@@AquariumCoop Thank you, good info for those of us trying to keep total weight down to minimum. No rocks for sure
"My favourites are pothos"
Then throws a philodendron and sindapsus cuttings in the tank lol
What gravel should I get for my fist bette fish
For the life of me I can’t grow Java fern at all, I can grow nearly everything else be it epiphytes, crypts, swords, other stems, but ferns are out of the question 💀😅
I see all these videos that recommend them but I can’t get them to grow well at all.
I have the impressive skill of killing duckweed
I’ve had luck with them not dying, but they grow very slowly
Interesting, java fern has always been SUPER easy for me 😂 Just leave them sitting on top of the gravel and dose easy green fertilizer.
Interestingly, the only time I was able to grow them was when I lived in college, grew super well. Now that I’ve been back in my hometown it’s back to not growing them. Maybe it’s the difference in water??
@@marv3504 Could be! Sometimes water differs. I've seen that happen with friends and they had to use bottled water in their tanks!
I had one of those floating logs. It was so rough inside and out that I got rid of it.
I think you could just sand it down before adding it to the tank. Might reduce the roughness.
@@Betta_Days I tried that but it was still pretty rough. So I actually bought a different product which I like better. I like to be better safe than sorry when it comes to my pets.
@@kathywhite4547 Very true! I'm a protective fish parent too. 😂
I have a temperate fish tank will that be okay for a betta if I add a heater?
If you keep the water temperature closer to tropical temperatures (76-80 degrees), your betta will do well at those temps. ~ Zenzo
we keep our house at 79 degrees and i live in FL. So I don't need a heater correct?
Not if the water is that temp
Can I use a 3.5 if the betta is by its self?
You definitely can! I always prefer a five-gallon minimum, but honestly, if you have a nice setup with plants, a 3.5 is ok for a lone betta. :)
How often one should pour salt in an aquarium and how much?
I don't recommend salt in an aquarium for a freshwater fish like the betta. Salt is mainly used to treat a betta for short lengths of time if it is sick.
@@Betta_Days my betta has a finrot rn and I read at many sites that salt could help. Kindly recommend how can I treat him
What kind of tank is that
Just setting up my second tank and I'm going to get a Betta fish 🐟
Had to take my mum's tank off her due to her health :(
I've posted videos :)
I've had two of those nano pumps fail on me already :(
Please email us at shipping@aquariumcoop.com if you have a product fail under the 1 year warranty. We will take care of you 😊
My betta is in a 16 liter tank
I just have one constructive criticism to make. Don't use a bucket to pour water back into the tank or you will be splashing water everywhere! A 1 qt. or 1 gallon pitcher is better.
I use a kitchen pot 😂
@@Betta_Days Ditto
I keep hearing use "high quality" food. What brands are considered"high quality"?
I recommend Repashy Community Plus and Xtreme betta pellets for bettas.
www.aquariumcoop.com/products/repashy-community-plus
www.aquariumcoop.com/products/xtreme-betta-pellets
Is it ok to put less water so I don't need to put lid on my tank?
Yes, you may keep the water level lower if you wish to keep an open top. Just know that an open aquarium will evaporate faster, be a little harder to keep warm, and some equipment may have an issue (like a small hang-on-back filter). Otherwise, it should be fine. ~ Zenzo
@@AquariumCoop is it better to keep Betta alone in 15g tank? Or with tank mates if ever what tank mates? Tia

Rinsining out your sponge with tap water is a no-no, also gravel is the worst!
Don’t limit yourself to males. Female bettas can be beautiful too, and can be kept together, unlike males.
I just bought my betta a new tank and before I even put him in it it was cloudy then it went away so I put him in it then it came back about 1 week later idk what do to please help
