    In case you guys weren’t aware, some gy6 (really any cdi equipped engine) are setup to use an ac cdi and some use dc cdi. The difference being obvious, the ac is for alternating current and the dc for direct current. What does that mean though, simply, the ac models generate their own electricity (ac voltage) to power the cdi whereas the dc requires 12 bolts dc power from the battery for the cdi. The ac equipped bikes will run even with a dead battery.
    How to tell the difference easily? If you turn the key on with the engine off, if the headlight comes on then you’ve got a dc cdi typically. This of course assumes the battery is charged so in cases of a dead battery then hook up jumper cables to a car first before the key on light test. Also a dc cdi is typically about 1.5 physically larger than an ac cdi because it has more circuits inside for the dc portion. Most 50cc are ac cdi. It’s a toss up on 150 gy6. Most kymco are dc except for the two stroke kymcos are ac. Most all two strokes are ac for that matter.
    Some rules of thumb regarding clutch and cvt. Roller weight controls when the variator (front pulley what you guys called clutch) “shifts” from low “gear” to high. Lighter rollers aren’t thrown out by centrifugal force as easily so the variator won’t shift as soon/in other words the engine will rev higher before it shifts. The opposite for heavier weight rollers. Top speed is a function of horsepower and final drive gearing (there’s a small gear set behind the rear pulley/centrifugal clutch ) unless you’ve got the cvt all out of wack/engine running poorly/extremely low on power. For optimum performance you will need to tune the roller weights and the clutch springs that hold the clutch shoes from engageing the bell. There’s also a “conta” torque spring under the clutch in between it and the rear pulley sheaves. A slightly stiffer contra spring usually helps it stay in low gear longer and keeps the belt from slipping too. The ideal setup (once all tuned right with rollers and those springs) would be clutch springs that let the engine rev up to peak torque (think stall converter in an automatic trans race car) before they engage the clutch, and light enough rollers in the variator to let it wind out (use all of it low gear) then shift into high and let it rev till top speed (gear ratio determined/rev limiter determined)!
    As far as Amazon stuff goes, the yellow contra and clutch springs are usually a step stiffer and quite noticeable improvement for $10-20.
    If you go brand name like Malossi or Polini then the colors may or may not be the same. There’s clutch springs available that will stall anywhere from 1500 for those yellows up to some full race 8000rpm springs. Cvt tuning is the first place you want to get right! Night and day difference. Those Tao Tao 50s in your other video will go 40 mph with yellow contra and clutch springs so long as the engine is running right which 90% of the time is just making sure the pilot jet is clear (there’s a tiny hole thru the center not just the four holes going sideways ) and the rest of the carb is spotless. Those engines are simple. Those racing cdi don’t truly do anything except they run full advance at all times (in other words they don’t have less timing advance at low rpm to make the engine easier to start like the stock ones have). That’s why it felt snappier off the line but once revving the are identical after the timing curve kicks to full advance. It’s been proven on the dyno and with timing light and ossilliscope. Actually with a big bore kit with high compression the stock starter won’t be able to start it cause it’ll have to much advance at idle/start rpm.

    I just got an ‘87 Honda Elite 150 I stripped down to the frame, opened the air box up a little and chopped the giant OEM muffler off and rewelded the actual pipe, to save on buying a muffler lol. Rolling wrench has some good products for sale to help dial in the carbs after mods, so you don’t have to buy a whole bunch of jets you’ll never use. I’m gonna add a tube across the front forks to tie them together and weld two pipes from steering neck back to passenger peg frame to add stiffness and better corner handling. As these scooters around corners feels like a water weenie trying to hold a straight line/curve

    If you actually wanna wheelie properly it's about throttle control and you need to keep your hand on the rear brake. Give it gas to get it up and brake to get it down then balance it out to hold the wheelie. Scooters a pretty big in the Netherlands since everything's close by here and there's scooters with some real street cred. Nice to see you Americans getting into them.

But 2ith the bike riding faster I began to experience a wobble in the handle bars and the vibration of the 80cc was making bolts and nut loosen. Was weird but kept eye on them. One easy and simple way to get a whole lot more power and RPM's out of it is to do away with the whole spark plug wire and coil and CDI box get a coil on plug from like a four-cylinder car that has individual coil built on top of the plug and it just has three or four wires running into each run your power wire to your power switch and then your ground and third wire you run it to your signal wire from your stator it's parked just like it would tell your CDI to make the plugs spark in that will free up a lot of restriction and it actually sparks a whole lot stronger and some people say that you can't get timeing advance that way but timeing advance doesn't exist on these mopeds because it only sparks when the flywheel magnet passes the sensor so no matter what RPM you're going it still takes 360 degrees for that magnet to pass the sensor again have done this with almost every one of mine with coils off of a BMW

    I have not found any genuinely low restriction muffler and headpipes. I ended up fabricating both an intake and a muffler system.
    I didn't see any point to upsizing and rejetting a larger carb until the restrictions were removed.
    I don't want a 55mph scooter. But one that is better off the line and has a bit more mid range torque. I'm trying to avoid doing a "big bore" kit and a cam. But, it's within my capabilities. But this scooter doesn't have a good suspension for 50mph and Michigan's shitty roads.

    • @cemtkeenan2750
      @cemtkeenan2750 Před rokem

      Buy a set of four spark plugs. Install a new plug. Start with a jet ten numbers higher than yours. Use center stand Let it warm up. Adjust idle air mixture screw on bottom of carb near intake. Turn it all the way clockwise until it stops. Now turn it clockwise 1 and 1/2 turns. Allow to idle at least ten seconds. If your rear tire is spinning,turn it clockwise in 1/8th turn increments waiting ten seconds for engine to catch up, what youre looking for is a stable idle high enough to just nudge the tire but not rotate it. Then adjust the idle screw on the throttle cable until it just revs up to desired rpm. Then test run at least one mile. Remove spark plug and inspect, if its black: idle mixture is rich. If its white: running lean so adjust screw counterclockwise 1/2 turn. Install new plug #2.Adjust air mixture screw 1/2 turn clockwise and do another run. If its still black, install a jet one size smaller. Repeat test until you have max performance and ideal fuel/air mixture. Its best to have at least four plugs for this tune. What you are looking for is a brown/gold/bronze coloring on the plug tip. In spite of all this, many scooters use a wasted spark process meaning one spark for every two rotations leaving unignited fuel, so a good coil cdi and performance spark plug are a must. Indexing your spark plug can maximize the spark kernel propagation, when the electrode and spark gap is actually pointing 1/2 way between intake and exhaust valves or slightly more to exhaust port. This is easier to do with the head removed and mark your centerpoint of valves with a punch.(on outside of head above sparkplug) draw a line on the spark plug from the electrode to the tip, use this line to align your sparkplug to the mark on the cylinder head. Three point plugs cannot be indexed only single ,splitfire,or double or E3 type plugs. Have fun tuning!

    • @cemtkeenan2750
      @cemtkeenan2750 Před rokem

      You can simply drill tye center hole of your main jet, enlargening it in tiny increments. If you accidently bore it too large; fill the hole with solder and drill it again with one step smaller drill bit.
