      The sabre gel crossfire that is ~1.5" dia x 4.5" T, is great. Big enough that it's inconvenient, but I would clip it on the front of my shirt or vest while on a walk, so super easy/quick access. It performed well on 2 dogs that came at me. Mugger fogger seems really good but it's bigger.

    3 main types of OC:
    1) Cone/Fog pattern - wide pattern, don’t have to aim precisely, most effective. However can be blown back by wind and, if used inside a building, will eventually make room temporarily uninhabitable.
    2) Stream - all shown in video are stream. The downside is it takes time (not much, but still time) to aim it, sometimes on a moving target.
    3) Gel/foam - takes a long time to work, have to aim, & only useful in hospitals or where you can’t expose innocents.
    I’m a retired LEO and used the first two types numbers of times. I highly recommend cone/fog (like Fox Cone pattern) for LE or serious situations (not firearms…the only response to a firearm is another firearm). Still, for general day to day I carry a POM or Saber stream. That way I have some non-lethal but I’m not planning to be in a situation. I would never recommend foam/gel unless you’re in a hospital, senior citizen residence, etc. Hope this helps.

    • @brianwatson4119
      @brianwatson4119 Před rokem +4

      Good analysis. And a question for you. The fog/cone is easier to hit with, but isn't it also the most likely to blow back on you in a breeze due to the dispersion? That would seem to be a factor as well.

    • @benb5960
      @benb5960 Před rokem +8

      @@brianwatson4119 Yes. Cone OC saved my bacon at least once because it’s quicker to use and takes effect sooner. However, it’s very susceptible to being blown back by wind and, if used indoors, you and everyone else will get some. That’s why, for general use, I carry POM or Saber Stream. In situations where I can’t carry my pistol, I carry a stream OC AND a Fox cone OC.

    I've been using Sabre products for over 40 years, As an Ex-LEO back in the early 80s, I can say from experience that Sabre products are IMO The best available and I highly recommend them, Among those type products, I have the 3-1 quick release key chain version and the Crossfire Gel and the Papa Bear, The Model# M-120L Police Magnum 3-1 Spray, All of these were recently purchased, {With the Gel you want to hit the eyes first and go ear to ear horizontally and then the nose and mouth} The spray is conical so you aim for the face and spray vertically, The eyes will close involuntarily and it will be very difficult to breathe, And it also has Psychological effects, fear and anxiety, The key chain spray says 10ft go with 5-6, The gel 18ft go with 10-14 ft, Sabre uses {High Performance Liquid Chromatography} HPLC It is a technique in analytical chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture, The orange smell you spoke of is most likely used as a solvent, So with the oleoresin capsicum being bad, Now you add CS Military Tear Gas for extra burn, And believe me this stuff is Wicked, I've been subscribed to your channel for about a year or so but don't reply often, Stay Safe. 👍

    I like the POM with the belt clip for its compact size and easy concealment. I can deep conceal inside my front pants pocket or clip it to the edge of a pocket similar to how I carry a flashlight or folder knife. The big flaw with the POM plastic clip is the fact that it does not grip the pants pocket fabric with enough friction to hold it in place. It's constantly at risk of falling off and getting lost, especially when you sit down in a chair. The flaw is easily addressed by attaching a strip of rubber no-slip tape to the body of the sprayer, under where the clip rests. The rubber tape provides plenty of friction to hold it securely for pocket carry. I used the kind of pebbled rubber no-slip tape typically applied to bathtubs. I chose not to use the sandpaper-like abrasive gun grip tape I have because it would tear up the pants fabric too much.

      I'm a law enforcement training instructor. I've been sprayed many times so I can give you my quick thoughts. I've been sprayed with sprays as low as .2% MC and as high as 1.4% MC. Most pepper sprays used by police agencies come in at 1.3%. In my opinion, I can't tell the difference between 1.3% and 1.4% when getting sprayed. They are both super hot. However, I can tell a difference in the effects of a stream vs fogger. Fogger works faster, causes me to cough more and is way worse. Mace contains CS in their formula. That's why it has that orange smell. I've been sprayed with OC/CS mixtures before and I don't think they work better than straight OC. If your carrying spray for personal protection, POM is way hot enough. If your looking for a bigger police size can, Sabre Red, Defense Technology and FOX are the three brands that are used by most police agencies here in the US.
      As far as stopping power, fogger is king. However, everybody reacts different when getting sprayed. Some people panic and others don't. Some people have instant effects and some take a couple of seconds before the spray kicks in. Either way, as someone who has sprayed many people in my LE career, it almost always works.

      The problem with product placements is that they can sway opinions away from objective functionality that has been illustrated in videos including this one.
      Long story short, POMs suffer from poor ergonomic issues, and I see that as an unnecessary problem when Saber does not have the same issue.
      Ideally, self defense tools should be easy to index, without you having to look at it, presumably because you are going to be too busy defending yourself. That is objectively more important to me than pretty packaging and brand recognition simply because they sponsor a popular CZcams channel.

    We use the POM pepper spray w/clip and it's been a good product when used while we lived in California. To make it a little easier for orientation, we simply added a little raised sticker bump to the front so when we grab it out of our pocket or my wife from her purse, we can feel that bump and we know which way to point and fire it.

    The post office issues us "Back off" dog repellent. I used it on a pit bull mix that came at me the other day. At about 10 feet I hit the dog in the eyes, and nose. The dog immediately put his tail between his legs and backed off. I know dog spray isn't mace, but they're both a capsasin spray.

    My wife and I carry the POM mostly because our firearms instructor recommended it. I did find out that it was a bit hard to feel the little nub on the front. But if you get the clip type, I can easily feel the clip and it goes towards the bend of your fingers. Plus, especially my wife will actually stage it if she’s in an area that could be sketchy. Like when pumping gas at night. It does have a great stream. I decided to take an exposure to it during one of our classes. Yeah, it was really nasty shit. Slammed my eyes shut in a matter of 5 to 7 seconds.

    PLEASE REVIEW SAP GLOVES/TACTICAL GLOVES! As a total pedestrian they are the only self defense tool I have used in real situations and they gave me a massive edge. They protect your knuckles, add mass to your punch, increase the hardness of your hand, support your wrist, etc. If you even barely know how to throw a punch you could Maul an equal opponent that is bare knuckles. They also allow you to still grapple with both hands. THEY CHECK ALL YOUR BOXES MIKE JUST TRY THEM!

    As for different brands: FOX Labs offers a pepper spray with a green dye in it to mark whoever it's used on supposedly to help authorities find them, and I wonder how well that actually stains skin/clothes.
    Also, if you could test pepper spray versus pepper gel. I've heard pepper gel gets used in hospitals to prevent hitting unintended targets, and I'm curious to how effective the gel is once it's hit a person.

    • @penedrador
      @penedrador Před rokem +1

      There are some videos on Active self protection where OC is used. The gel ones tend to work worse than jet streams or simple sprays.
      Why: the gel does not vaporize like a fluid spray does. With sprays you don't have to hit the eyes/mouth/nose directly for some immediate effect, with gel you must hit these areas. If you just hit an area like the chest, the attacker won't really notice it before he gets to you.
      But this is also the positive for gels, you won't endanger others around that much. A spray would be awful indoors, the vapors would be everywhere (as seen in this video, and this was outdoors)
      Personally, I carry a Jet stream one, this way you get a bit less of a cloud while you still get some reach and some vapors on the target.
      So in the end it really depends on the kind of situation you might need one for

    • @Frank020
      @Frank020 Před rokem

      I've read gel sounds cool but in an up close scenario enclosed. The attacker could wipe some of the missed gel on your face if he grabs you.
