By 1867, Josie had become so poverty stricken,
that she had only one presentable dress for strolling out.
Then, in November 1867, she met Jim Fisk,
a wealthy financier who was in
the habit of handing out $100 bills
to women who caught his roving eye.
    Fisk certainly didn't look like a ladies' man;
Although he attracted attention, it was for all the wrong reasons.
“He was a striking figure, tall, florid, very fat,”
wrote Lloyd Morris in Incredible New York.
“His light brown hair was pomaded and carefully waved,
his mustache waxed to fine points, and huge diamonds
blazed on his frilled shirt front and pudgy fingers.”
The iconic image KALOMA, which is shown in this presentation, and is generally touted to be the image of Josie Mansfield, which it isn’t ; the identity of the woman in the KALOMA image, is revealed in this video!

Oddie your Instagram link is cut off in the info box, just thought you might like to know.
When I go to Community all I see is the pictures and links to the videos, I don't see any way to send pictures. Is it because I'm useing an older Andorid phone? Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong as I'd like to post a picture of the funny bears standing by the car that I drew to try to enter the giveaway.
I want to follow the rules of the contest and not just pop it on Facebook or whatever.
There sure are alot of neat stuff to see on the link you provided on the 'ad' for this video. I'll re-watch this video now.😁
It's still being made but when it's done the company will send 'IT' to you, I did send them $ for postage but they stated that because as a "thanks" for my being a Vet that any added ship. /costs they would pay for, and they're adding the bottom bit at no added charge to me. How kool and unbelievably nice of them !
'IT' comes in a gold frame with the authenticity paper sgined on the back by 'THE' person that MAKES The Walk Of Fame 'THE' real Walk of Fame 'Stars', in Hollywood.
      PLEASE think of this as.....
FROM ALL YOUR ODDIE BUD/FANS, not just me. You Tube may not appreciate all your hard work but 'WE' ....DO !!! I know I do.
The video on the lady that took her life when she jumped from the Hollywood Sgin gave me the idea to look into it, and look into it I did and got 'THE' folks who make the 'Real Deal' to do it, not some cheesy tourist shop would do. No cutting coroners like it says in the info box. .
Of course it's just to hang on the wall and not the sidewalk thingie, but it is being made by the folks that them for the 'stars' in Hollywood so I just hope you like it.
They're even sending me a picture of it, don't know if the picture will be in an email, I did ask them to send me a hard copy, only time will tell. Take care. 🤘👻💖

What a beautiful, sad, and tragic story. From the very beginning, Josie had such a hard life, being the subject of sexual abuse by her stepfather. I'm sure that was much more common than we know. This story needs to be made into a movie.

That poor soul. I feel so sad for her. I love your videos Oddie! They're so charming and unique.

I suppose that depends upon her treatment by others. A girl has to even the powers over her by those that take advantage. now doesn't she? Surrounded by self serving narcissists, interlopers unwanted attention by people with personality disorders, I think she did pretty well. But, after all we weren't even there, were we? There is a lot of projection going on here. When emotions are a good substitution for the facts, that is projection. Interesting, but not compelling. A woman stands up for herself, and what does she get? Male domination. No, thanks. I'm a little disturbed by the misogyny often exposed by these videos. Less of that would be nice.

Loved the addition of the tiny black silhouette people and that fantastic werewolf guy (?) waving to us from a rooftop in one of the last scenes. As if all this wasn't good enough, the soft chimes-like music was wonderful, just wonderful. I'd love to have it playing as a dreamy, contemplative background if you ever do a CD of it. I've been watching videos for a few years now, the stories are great and very well researched. I enjoy them so much and I love all the imagery. I've always found that it really creates a connection between us and the people of the past. And on that note, in this video at 6:48 there's a picture of a man sitting by a piano and a woman sitting on the stool in front of it. I think this is one of the coolest photos I've ever seen!!! That piano is identical to the one my grandma has. It belonged to her grandparents who purchased it in Iowa before moving to Washington State in 1904. They bought farmland and while building the house, they set up something temporary and my great grandmother was actually sleeping on top of that piano! There's a cover that comes down over the keys and when lifted up the panel on the front with the scrolls tilts out about 3 in. to hold the sheet music. It's still in perfect working order today and has a rich and deep rounded tone unlike any other piano I've ever heard. The last time she was going to have it tuned the man said he didn't really want to because of its age, and besides, although it's out of tune, it's perfectly in tune with itself! To put the cherry on the cake, what made me pause and look closely at the photo was actually the stool. It's made of a dark, polished wood, the seat spins around on a cork screw so it can be adjusted to the right height and the four feet are claws holding clear, glass orbs; almost like they're each holding a crystal ball. My grandma also still has the stool that originally came with her piano, and it's also identical to the one in the photo. I can't wait to show this to her, she will be so excited!! She remembers it sitting in her grandparent's sitting room. Her grandmother played it, her mother and aunt did as well, and she learned to play the piano on it as a child and has played it her whole life. It's a very special piece. Happily my sister plays piano and she will inherit it from grandma, thus keeping it in the family for a fifth generation!

Very interesting Oddie. The way things were done back then is so unbelievable to me. The life that Josie led was certainly far from dull..but often seemed like she might long for some dullness from time to time. She lived far longer than most of her uh suitors tho eh? Even with cancer. As far as that silly trial triplet of farces, sometimes I think we've scarcely advanced. Sadly and frustratingly. Out of respect for their lives, there apparently were four deaths due to the collapse of The Broadway Central Hotel in 1973. The article you show, tells in the first sentence of the answer, of the deaths, although you say that is fortunate that no one died. Just a small thing.
The lovely soprano aria that underplays the narrative @22:56 is wonderful, aided by your echo effect. Very evocative of a time and society gone by.

Greedy people likeing to do shabby work to keep getting paid is what I think.
If I ever can I want to make a homestead, have a study cabin built, I'll be on site and help to build it so I know it's done right.
Will also have an underground home built, would be cool in the summer, 65 degrees in winter and would be a storm shelter as well.
A meat smoke building, and underground root celler, water storeage, solar pannels the whole bit.😁 That's my idea of a dream home. You can have a garden for food & one to grow for med.plants.
It would be built right that's for sure.
Have a boat house for the lake, cats, dogs buddies, cows, sheep, chickens, maybe horses.
Would be alot of work but well worth it. How's that sound?

@@ghostcityshelton9378 sounds pretty perfect to me Sis, but I’d have to have a couple of strong farm hands to help with the heavy work. They could have their own cabin. It sounds a good bit like the self sufficiency farm I grew up on. We also had an orchard and a berry garden. It was heated with our sawdust burner cooking stove and was a slice of paradise. We picked wild herbs and asparagus. The only things we had to buy in town were flour and sugar…those kind of staples and bandages…and a few patent medications. We sold homemade butter, eggs, and orchard fruit. I hope you are doing well Ruth, I miss you.🖤🇨🇦
