Revelle Balmain - Sydney Model Vanished into Thin Air - SUBTITLES
#missing #crime #australia
In 1994 Revelle Balmain disappeared from a busy Sydney suburb. It is strongly believed that her disappearance involved foul play. The police have always suspected the involvement of one man over the decades, who still walks free - but was it really him?
It was alleged that she was last seen at a pub where I would drink beer occasionally.
I lived very close to the area at the time, and I also detail my belief that I saw her a short time before she vanished.
In Australia, more than 38,000 missing persons reports are received by police each year. While most people are found within a short period of time, there remain approximately 2,600 long term missing persons; those who have been missing for more than three months. Revelle is one of them.
If anyone has any vital information that could help police solve this case, now is the time to come forward.
Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Aramac detectives is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.

Diver John Farrar testified that Kopechne's body was pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble would have formed. He interpreted that to mean that she had survived in the air bubble after the car submerged, and he concluded that: "Had I received a call within five to ten minutes of the accident occurring, and was able, as I was the following morning, to be at the victim's side within twenty-five minutes of receiving the call, in such event there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car." Farrar believed that Kopechne "lived for at least two hours down there." John Farrar testified: "It looked as if she were holding herself up to get a last breath of air. It was a consciously assumed position…. She didn't drown. She died of suffocation in her own air void. It took her at least three or four hours to die. I could have had her out of that car twenty-five minutes after I got the call. But he didn't call." - diver John Farrar, Inquest into the Death of Mary Jo Kopechne, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Edgartown District Court. New York: EVR Productions, 1970.

There is an 8 episode Spotify report by the daughters of Fauna Hodel that extensively covers Fauna, her (grand)father Dr. George Hodel and his connection to Elizabeth Short. George's son went on to become an L.A. cop & investgated Elizabeth's murder. He came to the conclusion that his father killed her. It's an intriguing & gruesome podcast worth the time to listen to. Interesting personal note: I was born 9 days after Fauna Hodel.

Word is she divorced from her husband of almost 20 years for my employer who was 40 years senior. in fact my employer when married to his 3rd wife at the time, loved her in the earlier years and gifted them ( her married with her first child) real estate in an affluent neighborhood in los angels. they flipped it not able to pay property taxes- I believe it was expected. Anyhow my elderly employer passed away and she inherited his estate. She went into hiding for over a year and now lives near my ex-employers cherished alumni and care takes his endowment. her children doing well and we all still talk although im never invited to anything lol. 5 years later & I'll say this - anyone involved in a cult religion like THAT who'd allow murders to occur instead of a seperation from the cult for falling in love don't deserve to "rest in peace" do they? It's a shame that those wronged seem to be the ones doing the haunting, waiting for SOMEONE to undo the actual SIN OF MURDERS that were done in the name of the religion, which is a cult, really. I sound redundant. But any zealous extremes are dangerous no matter what title or banner it flies over its members, when there's no option other than death if you chose to leave it.

I absolutely believe that it was the last client who killed her. Her belongings were found not far from his home. She went there and I'm sure that upon her arrival, she was not happy that he was a substandard client. The fact that he sold his GF's clarinet to pay for her fully explains the conditions that Revelle walked up to upon arriving at his residence. Revelle probably thought, "This is not at all what I expected -- and I need to get the hell out of here!" But, she didn't leave, even though her gut was telling her to. She most likely just said to herself, "Okay, I'm here. I'll just get this over with really quick and leave." The guy sensed her wanting to get through it really fast and he probably got really pissed, I mean, after all the trouble that he went through to get the money! Selling his GF's clarinet! And THEN he was probably over-anxious and a bit nervous meeting Revelle and in the end he failed to make the session last for very long and once that happened, she wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. And, I think that because it happened 'prematurely' he was expecting her to 'give him more time', he expected her to stay with him longer. And she wouldn't. If you go back and look at all of the injuries on him in the photos the police took, you're going to see all of the signs where Revelle fought him off while he was probably choking her. He has fingernail scratches on his neck and face, he has multiple abrasions and bruises. This man had been in a physical altercation with someone. Here in the United States, he would have been indicted by a grand jury just from the fact that he was the last person to see Revelle, and then with all of the fingernail scratches, the condition that his hands were in, the scrapes, and bruises on his body would have been enough to convince a grand jury! He was the last person to see her. There are thousands of "One time only killers" out there walking the streets. This is where an individual has murdered someone and disposed of them, and then they never killed again. They go on to live normal, ordinary lives and grow old and die -- with their loved ones never knowing that about them. They take their secret to their graves! It's sad that her parents died without ever knowing where her remains are. I hope that her last client will someday be held accountable and sent to prison for killing her. He did it! .

Just to make a valid point, I may not have mentioned it in this episode as I can’t remember exactly because it’s over two years old. But the suspect and Revelle were known to each other, he had ordered her services many times. It could be that he was besotted with her, and when he found out that she was leaving for Japan, something in him snapped.

Revelle deserves justice and to be properly laid to rest by her surviving family. I hope they find her remains so she can have a funeral, and I hope her killer or killers are held accountable. Given as this was the mid 90s and Christ knows what was going on in the Balkans at that time, I can’t help but wonder if the two Serbian / Yugoslav clients were horrendous war criminal types well accustomed to doing what they wanted to women and wouldn’t have thought twice about hurting a call girl, and getting their mate to cover it up afterward. It was a really brutal time in that part of Europe and many terrible crimes were inflicted on people by those involved in the military and local militias - violence became the norm and women and girls in particular really suffered 😢

Hi Oddie. I remember this case. In 94 i was 20 and working in Woolloomooloo. On friday nights I'd take the Newcastle train home for the weekend. I used to do stupid things like walking home late at night from paddington to randwick but cut through centennial park. Having been raised in Newcastle i didnt have the fear i should have had. I think the Soldiers Point Revelles mother lived at was in Port Stephens not the central coast. There is one at Norah head, i think they just reported the wrong one. I danced on pool tables at Selinas but i kept my clothes on. My local at Randwick was the DOG. Thank you Oddie for walk down memory lane.

Sounds like you did some risky things back then my friend - we are the lucky ones to still be here. I would often cycle around Centennial Park after work, doing many laps - until it got dark, then I would leave because a lot of unsavoury characters would congregate there. You were very lucky indeed. The DOG was my local when I moved to the area in the mid 80s I was staying at my sisters on Frenchmans Road at the time - afterwards found my own place further up on Avoca Street. I remember the Coogee Bay and Selinas very well, went to see Nirvana there. It’s nice to communicate with someone who was around at that time in my stomping ground.

Here is how I see it: the surfer was the coke dealer- she was scoring coke. The pimp couple who ran the “agency” are lying- Kelly was the alibi. There were no “Slavic friends “ that was made up. Who’s protecting the agency? I assume that she had a big coke debt- regardless of her lifestyle, she was beautiful, young and someone’s daughter. This was done well- I never knew that Sydney had a shady side. Love the stroll down memory lane- sad when a pub house loses its “charm.” I always thought you were from England, your accent sounds more British…😬sorry.

    • @ObsoleteOddity
      @ObsoleteOddity Před 2 dny

Thank you for your theory on this case, I definitely think the agency were involved somehow - either directly or indirectly. Sydney was really quite bad back then, more especially because the police force was corrupt. Google Roger Rogerson and you will see how the police force was back then. Glad you enjoyed my memories of ‘old Sydney’ What I enjoyed about that pub was you could go in and play pool and talk to people, and listen to the jukebox - then when they modernised it and just stuck in rows and rows of poker machines, it just becomes a hall for the undead. So we all left and went to the racecourse hotel which also mentioned - that stayed old-fashioned until they pulled it down in the 90s.

The guy checks into a Hotel hoping for a bit of peace and quiet. Judging from this report : he was disturbed by maids bringing towels or wanting to clean his room who listened to his phone calls and watched as he went out of the hotel . And then they all decide he was weird.!! When I book into a Hotel I DON'T want staff knocking on door every 5 minutes to ask if I need anything..!!

Well, now you put it that way, yeah, it would’ve been a bit annoying 😄 maybe he didn’t tip the porter, and he did it.

Crowley gets a bad rep for being too liberal for his time. All the bs about him rapin and killing are rumours at best

Thanks for the story! Got a chuckle out of the weed part. Getting the shit beat out of me, would make me say it was great weed! LOL. On the map, I think you can click on the road ahead and it will move you forward. Blessings to you and family.

Well, it certainly wasn’t the last time I got ripped off buying weed. Lol Yeah, I know about the arrows and about going straight ahead, but I’m the sort of person that wants to go diagonally and also view the car park behind buildings, and it won’t let me. So at the moment it’s my willpower against software parameters - I’m not giving up!
