I was told when I bought the car that that was the last year Hondas would come with a CD player. For us music lovers, a car is basically a stereo that we can drive around in.
I love the good old days of walking out of a music store with a new CD (or 3 or 4), getting in, unwrapping the CD, inhaling that new CD smell, and sliding in the CD in anticipation. I miss that. The plus is I don’t have a million CD cases cluttering up my car now.

What I do is import the CDs into my Itunes library, sync Itunes to my phone, and then sync my phone to my car so I can play my music anytime. I never listen to anything on the radio ever. I never play Spotify or Apple Music. I have everything I have on CD on my phone and play it every time I am in the car. The songs, bands, and albums appear on the dash. I completely agree that it’s stupid that new cars don’t have built in CD Players. I still prefer playing a CD over streaming music, mainly because I can own a CD but I can’t really own music from a subscription service. So my workaround for all that is that I have ripped most of my CDs onto my computer and imported them into my phone. Then I just hook my phone up to the car’s bluetooth, go into my music app and play the albums from there. And if the drive is long enough, I add multiple albums to the play queue so I don’t need to worry about the album ending before the drive is over. It’s not as fun as loading a disc, but it’s my solution for both the lack of a CD Player and my distaste for streaming services and radio.

I get the whole “I need to hold it in my hand and I like to read the booklet” crowd but I couldn’t care less about that anymore. Plus I think cd is a crappy format in general. I had a lot of copies that I burned from trading with friends and they were bronzing and changing colors and some of them went bad and lost sound quality over time. CD’s cheaply made from small record labels too went bad on me. But digital files you never have to worry about that. The only thing is backing up your music properly.

My wife's car is the same way -- no CD player. I ripped my entire CD collection (flac = lossless). I built a thumb drive with all of her favorite music. She just leaves the thumb drive plugged into the dash. When she turns the car on it goes right to the last track that was played. She keeps it on shuffle, but you can play an entire album if you want. Thumb drive has 4000+ songs, so she'll never run out of options. THX!

we’re the last of the Mohicans.. But it just takes time
time to prove the rest of the world has become numb to the value of real music that is created from the heart.. I hope we’ll still be here when that day comes

Anything that encourages more physical media music sales can only be a good thing, and my car is old enough to have a CD player that I never use anyway.
I do buy a lot of CDs, but the moment I get them I rip them myself to my own music server (nothing to do with Apple) in lossless FLAC format - and then just download to phones and music players doing a real-time "copy and convert" to a suitable MP3 format.
Then I just use Bluetooth in my car to connect a phone, and probably have immediate access to 1000+ albums right there and then.

What's the process for ripping CD's into FLAC files?

    • @terrydaktyllus1320
      @terrydaktyllus1320 Pƙed 19 dny

@@JohnBarrow1961 I haven't used Microsoft Windows since support for Windows 7 ended, but I was ripping CDs back then and I used to use free Exact Audio Copy with great success.
I combined that with Tag&Rename to organise file tags, it handles FLAC, MP3 and other formats.
These days, I only use Linux and, in normal circumstances, you'd need to use several tools to rip a CD because of the Linux "do one job and do it well" philosophy when it comes to applications - so one tool would rip the CD to WAV format files, another would convert WAV to FLAC, and a third would go to the public music databases to get track names and artists for tags.
The great thing in Linux ia a package called "abcde" ("a better cd encoder") which allows you to stick a CD in the drive, type "abcde" in the command line, and it does everything for you - it spits out FLAC and/or MP3 files with reasonably good file tags - this is what I have been using for years. abcde is a "wrapper" program that runs those other applications in the background as required but doesn't expose the user to all the command line stuff - type "abcde" at the command line and maybe 10 minutes later, you have your ripped files.
I still use Tag&Rename in Linux to do file tagging because I like proper and correct file tags, sometimes the artist names and titles are wrong when retreived from the Musicbrainz database.
I have no idea if you use Windows or Linux, but in Linux (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.) there will be graphical tools that do the same thing, I just don't use them.
Good luck, I hope this helps.

If we stop streaming, how are new bands going to be heard? Not everyone can afford to take a chance on new bands because some magazine has recommended them. I have Spotify, and I buy cd and vinyl, and a lot of the bands/artists I've bought records of, i discovered on Spotify. Also, I've saved money on bands that people/magazines have pushed and told me they were the 2nd coming, and i just wasn't into them. I agree, cd players back in cars, but get rid of streaming, no.

My 2018 Camry is the last year that still had a CD player. Hopefully I can keep that car going until I die. :) Sirius XM is ok, but sometimes you just want to pop in a CD and listen to what you want, not the randomness of some radio station.

When I was a teenager I had hundreds of CD's strewn all over my car, now when I get in the car, it automatically connects to Bluetooth and my phone just starts playing something so even less thinking, I like it! 😊

Our 2011 Rav 4 has an in dash 6 cd changer. with a few thousand CDs I love it
that car is getting old and the wife is looking for something new. The perk is I have a 256gb card in my phone full of music so connecting it to Bluetooth shouldn't be a problem.

Both my cars still have CD players, but they're both getting older so not feeling good about the trade-in. I grab a couple discs every morning when I head out and continually swap them out. My previous car was so old (2001), that it had both CD & cassette.
