The lowered pitch of this song just sounds heavier. I like it better than the original in a lot of ways, honestly. That intro just blows my mind every time I listen to it as well.
YaBoyBillson it's at the pitch I tune my guitar (1/2 step down from standard / "Eb") so it sounds normal as far as pitch goes.. I always play everything on a pitch app
Christopher Frasher it’s actually supposed to be in 444 hz usually people adjust it to 440 for standard. This is a half step down and then some of you take that into consideration.
They were notorious for speeding their tape speeds up to create a faster song back then too.... James' voice has never been 'high pitched', but alot of the recordings make it seem that way due to tape speed on the master. The entire album "Ride the Lightning' is sped up and 'Master of Puppets' was the first that they actually played at speed and didn't speed anything up on tape.

You truly did Cliff justice with this remix/remaster. That's impressive, man, respect!. The way it blends with James' rhythm makes it feel more....menacing?....yeah, menacing lol
There is no such thing as this guy remixing the songs. This guy just uploaded the Guitar Hero: Metallica remix and put a cool image over it. I am not complaining, but stop thinking this guy is remixing stuff; to do so, you should have access to the original recordings.
I commented on here before, but I came back to listen to this version and man I swear it's like listening to it for the first time all over again ✊🏻💪🏻🤟🏻😎
Haven't listened to the original track in a few years. Listening to this with good quality headphones made me feel like I was 13 again kudos to you and all the work you do for the minimal amount of joy it gives to thousands around the globe! 🌹
I'm blown away. I haven't listened to this song in decades, though as a kid the first three albums were on my Walkman every day. This remastering nails it. Brilliant. Salut, Cliff.
I think I prefer this over the original. I do like the original as its much faster, more fine tuned but this is metal right here! The bell. Idk something about that bell makes it more menacing or something. Just sounds more dark
The bassline of this song is amazing and marries amazingly with the drums. Glad you turned it up. I love the guitar tones, very frosty like the RTL tone but more sofisticated
Listen to this, then listen to the original. This may first appear to sound better (because of the boosted bass and also because it sounds different to what you are used to), but listen to how clear everything sounds like in the original. I don't think this song (or anything from Cliff era) needs remixing at all. In the original the guitar and bass tones blend together nicely. It's the same thing on Master of Puppets album. The instruments are not meant to work on their own, they are meant to work together. This version boosts the bass too much so that it becomes overpowering and begins to sound like it's meant to be the lead instrument all the time. It may be nice for bassists to hear the bass part more clearly, but the average listener couldn't care less about what the bass is doing. The average listener listens to the overall sound. If the overall sound requires the bass to be boosted, then of course boost the bass. But I don't think it needs that. The original mix is just fine. You would need to change the guitar and bass tones if you wanted to make them sound more "separate". I'm pretty sure they consciously made the guitar and bass sounds blend together. It would need to be re-recorded to achieve what the uploader is after. And I say this as a bassist. Well, I'm a multi-instrumentalist but I play the bass in a band.
Mike Chang So what? I just wanted to share my thoughts. Somebody may read it and maybe agree, maybe disagree. How do you know nobody gives a shit? I just wanted to share my opinion and I have the right to do it. I didn't waste my time. I like expressing my opinion. If nobody reads it, fine. I have already forgotten about most of the comments I have written.
I can finally hear cliff's bass distortion pedal working this mix and remaster is phenomenal such detail and clarity every note ringing out Lars on drums is a relentless monster so good
This remix sounds fantastic, except that it's pitched down a half step from the original. I don't know if that's simply to avoid copyright infringement issues, but I would much prefer to hear the song in its original key. Other than that, this is an amazing remix, and I love the fresh, heavy sound it has.
If u have a smartphone, download this song using youtube to mp3 from the web, then get it on your phone, then get an app called "anytune". U can change the pitch and speed of the song.
I know that this comment is 3 years old, but I've just now stumbled upon it. It's not pitched down a half-step, it would be a lot deeper than this. All of the instruments are tuned to A444, instead of the normal A440 that most songs have, this was to match the tuning of the church bell. It might not seem like much, but those 4 degrees make a massive difference.
@@muddyshears Absolutely. As a young bedroom musician back in the day, I'd play over original recordings of songs for covers. I remember it boggling my mind that my guitar was perfectly in tune but it sounded horribly out of tune while trying to play over this track. A few years later I learned about the tuning. Speaking of fun Metallica facts, that's not a church bell, it's actually an anvil being hit.
Only one thing missing and it's not really your fault anyways. In the original song, Cliff played the bass intro with an harmonizer pedal wich plays one octave higher with the original sound thus creating an harmony. They didn't keep it in Guitar Hero's bass track of the song though. I wonder why.
