I think the true story is that of the producer, that Lars kept sending back the mixes - until they sent it to him with bass all the way down, mostly as a joke, and this got Lars' approval stamp-
If James & Lars want to actually show Newsted, and the Metal Community, that they aren't huge douche bags, they should do a re-release of this album with Jason's bass in the mix like it should have been the whole time. Hell, if they didn't want someone else playing bass, then they should have just not hired anyone. This is so much tonally full than the original.
This truly doesn't come off as a "I turned up the bass using cheap software" Instead we hear a perfectly balanced mix, which just strikes my ears as being much more natural in regards to tonality, just adds so much depth and quality to the mix. Well done to whoever did this!

This was recorded at one on one in north Hollywood in 88 they were still a analog studio same with studio city they didnt go digital til early 90s and sound city never went digital. Dave Grohl was trying to buy both studios cause he hates digital and wanted analog. Ended up just buying the nieve console from studio city and moving it to a studio he owns down the street from the old one on one now 17 hertz studio.

At 5:19 the bass actually makes the guitar part sound different. I don't know if he isn't playing the root or something, but that whole section sounds different.

You do realize there is an interview with Jason explaining that and justice for all was meant to sound the way it sounded because basically it represented Cliff being missing in action from the band. Jason was never upset about it. Now that being said it does sound better with the bass added in.
For real! All the other basses actually imo just have the bass too loud, like I want to hear the bass but not that up front. Imo this is pretty much perfect

I honestly think this is the best One with Bass version on CZcams. You can clearly hear the Bass’s distinct tone while also supporting the low end, but it’s not too loud land ruining the mix. I’m not going to lie And Justice For Jason sucks, the bass is too loud and it makes the other instruments sound terrible. The original one is lacking a lot of bass though. I really prefer this bass addition where the bass is distinct but not blasting.
Justice for Jason was good for awhile cause at the time it was the only to listen to the album with bass and inspired others to do better but I agree with you.

TIL that there was boosted bass version. HOLY FUCKING SHIT it changes the whole song! This is friggin' amazing. TY (BTW, could you imagine Iron Maiden with no Steve Harris?) I can't listen to the old version ever again.
It all makes sense now. The boxy guitar sound, the clicky drums, all are NOTHING without the bass. Now, it truly feels "garagy", the direction they initially were going for.

This version is by far the best online one . The mixing is really great and after all these years I can feel HOW AJFA would have sounded adding bass into it but I still prefer the original.
