Amazing how much of an improvement good quality pads can make. The front caliper was definitely due for some love. Beautiful meticulous work as always Del and Penny. Friction material is a bit of a mysterious art. I remember the first ceramic clutch discs I put in a heavy truck. It was also the last.😁 Many thanks and safe riding to you both. ❤👍👍

Sure thing Rick, braking science is deep and extensive, but a simple route to good brakes is just to fit the best you can afford and keep them clean because dirty calipers can be a problem all on their own! Enjoy the rest of your week there, and thanks as ever for your kind words, D&Px

I have a '99 FXDL with 2 of those upfront.
It's a one finger front brake with the EBC HH, not at all spongy on stock lines.
    I would be more
interested to see the pad wear on the FA200HH taken off the rear.
Also how the replacement FA200 try to bed in with the backing shims missing.
HD rear pads with backing shims £90.
EBC £32 but they are about 1.5mm out on the inside edge.
Piston side will usually sit flat but the inside will need to wear down a shed load to bed to the disc, not great if it's cutting away the disc to do it.
That's why the factory workshop manual is good.
Also the slide pin in the front bracket should be serviced at the same time so the brakes aren't spongy.
EDIT:. The rear caliper is incompatible with EBC FA200HH.
You will need to remove metal from the radius on the inside, about 1mm fixes it.
Get a Sharpie and cover the radius, drop the caliper on and wriggle it to mark where the metal needs to be removed.
Can be done with a small sanding drum on a rotary tool or a chainsaw file .

Thought I would leave you with this verse from the good book reminded of the words at the start of the video.

Hope the pads do improve your brakes, I used them all the time on my bikes over standard pads and they definitely work better, the only down side is the discs tend to wear a bit quicker. Looking forward to your next video. Have a great week and see you Friday. 😊

Sure thing mate, a little more wear on the discs, but in theory with correct use of brakes, it should be minimal if the efficiency is improved, as you brake less and it's obviously a worthy trade off! Have a great rest of the week, ride safe!

Hey buddy. I did a lot of self guided learning on calipers a while back so please accept this with a grain of salt. If you have a single piston caliper, let’s say the piston is 25mm diameter, then the area of that piston that is available for the brake fluid to exert force on would be 490mm2. If you changed to a multiple piston caliper with the same area, then the stopping force would actually be the same. Say the was 2 x 12.5mm diameter pistons for the sake of this post. Now… if you increased the effective area of the brake pistons, say 2 x 20mm diameter pistons, your caliper would be able to deliver more stopping force. HOWEVER, if you don’t change the brake master accordingly to match the increased piston area, your braking performance would actually get worse. You’re just not delivering enough pressure to the increased piston area with the stock master cylinder. Again, if someone smarter than me can explain better, no problem but I know this much, this is why Brembo sells different sized masters for those of us that upgrade our calipers.

Wise words indeed and very correct, something I've always said in response to the question of buying aftermarket 6 pot calipers, no use having them if you don't match the pump to push them... thanks for your input as always my friend.

Hope your HD breaks a lot better than before. I remember the old bikes and how terrible the brakes were. Quite a shock, although I had expected some wide eyes beforehand. But really using the 1990ies brakes was eye-opening ;-)
I got to change the brake discs on my old Honda CBR 600 RR, the floaters are worn. 20 years ago these brakes were class, now they're pretty mediocre. Maybe the new parts will change brake distances and feeling. Changed the rear tyre today, saw that one rear brake pad was pretty worn. But then one clip fell out and I couldn't guess the right way to install it. Have to look up the Honda service manual. Too many bikes to remenber all details ;-)
